GUYS HOW DO YOU DO THIS ON YOURSELF? i dont want another person intervening but this sounds much better than the boring slow self-relaxation where affirmations are ineffective. i want to do this technique on myself, i feel helpless to change!
@BellaaMarlene Self-hypnosis can be used to reinforce good behavior and break through negative patterns to a degree. However, if you want to make enduring, substantial changes then you should work face-to-face with a skilled hypnotist. // In order to make appropriate changes in one's life, it often is necessary to have an objective viewpoint that can help you see the negative behaviors that you either might not see in yourself or have justified in correctly as appropriate or healthy behavior.
can you just do this if you are a beginner? or do you need to practise thousand of times before it will work? I mean , I love hypnosis.. from the stuff I see on the internet , I just wonder if you can do this on your mother or father of friend for the first time and that will work instantly
If you take time to understand the basics of hypnosis, you will be able to use advanced techniques (instant and rapid inductions) quite quickly.
As a beginner, I recommend starting with a classic induction such as Progressive Relaxation or The Elman Inudction.
I will be releasing a DVD soon on how to do instant and rapid inductions. Subscribe here or join my (free) Hypnosis Newsletter so you can be notified when it will be released. Go to KC2XL(dot)com and enter your email address there.
The hypnotist is me, KC Johnson. The volunteer is a one of my clients who is a bodybuilder. Here, he is seen in the off season, when he is just at the beginning of his bulking routine.

I was wondering if you could let me know how to begin and work my way up to instant Pattern interrupt hypnosis. Any help would be appreciated :)

@ModernWin When I started learning hypnosis back in 1990 when there were no internet videos and few resources available to help people learn hypnosis. Times have changed. Now there are many resources available. However, several of the new resources are created by people who have barely learned hypnosis and are attempting to teach what they know, motivated by the idea that by teaching, one learns. That's fantastic for the teacher, but not always so good for the student. (CONTINUED BELOW)
@KC2XL ...If you take time to find a good resource of information (such as a live class, a home-study DVD set or book), then you will save yourself lots of time; and if you practice consistently, then you can develop impressive hypnosis skills within 3-6 months, and can become quite good within a year. It took me approximately that same time frame, but I continued to study and grow (and still do to this day).
Hey KC great vid, just wondering if it matters which hand u use when u hypnotise a person. Also does words like "Deeper" & "Sleep" have 2 b slow and spoken in a low voice. Finally can anyone just walk up to someone, ask them if they wouldn't mind being hypnotised and than jump right into this induction, or is it better 2 use a progressive relaxation induction when u 1st start trying 2 hypnotise people?
i have been reading about the handshake interrupt and i wanted to know do i have to build rapport with the person i do it to? and when i do it should i do it a slow way like in this video or just do it quickly which way is more effective? thank you
The speed of the induction depends on your style and your judgment of what is best for the client. There is no set rule on the speed of the gestures (which are secondary to rapport, expectation, and other skills such as assessing the client).
Building rapport is a large detailed subject. You should read about NLP in order to learn about it. It's not something that can be taught in a few quick sentences.
I am very interested to learn how to do hypnosis inductions, especially like your handshake interrupt. I have read a lot of NLP books. Those books are great, but it only explains what a "pattern interrupt" is, or what is an "anchor". It doesn't explain how to do it to achieve to an induction. Where can I find such information? Or maybe could you make a mini-tutorial that shows basic of fast induction?
If you look through the comments under this video you'll find that I recommend The New Encyclopedia of Stage Hypnotism by Ormond McGill (ISBN: 1899836020) as a good place to start learning hypnosis. You can also visit my website for a list of suggested books to read. There's a link to my website on the main page of my YouTube page.
Does it can be performed faster, or you have to make him feel heavier and then suddenly lighter? Could you just say: " Look at your hand, and sleeeep"?
Hypnosis inductions can be peformed either quickly or slowly. Yes, I could have sped up this induction in many different ways including the way you mentioned. However, when filming this video, my aim was to demonstrate a variation of the traditional hand-to-face pattern interrupt.
A pattern interrupt can be physical (contact), visual (gestural--no contact) or aural. PIs also can be any combination of the three. A covert PI calls no attention to itself. You could (simplified example) gesture in the middle of a client's thought pattern (ex. in the middle of your or the client's sentence) to interrupt or redirect her/his attention. Natural interruptions in conversations are common; so, if you use proper hypnotic language at those times, you can create effective covert PIs.
Hi KC. Ever since I heard about NLP a long time ago I've read up about it etc, though bought books and such, but never really thought about trying it first hand. In this video, and pattern interrupts in general, would you have to do any groundwork beforehand? Some seem to say you do, others don't. There are some very crazy and fast inductions on Youtube, but they never really explain much
A pattern interrupt (PI) used as a hypnotic induction does not need pre-work, because the PI functions only to create the hypnoidal state, which is then deepened and secured rapidly.
On the contrary, when using PIs to create change in a client during NLP or hypnosis therapeutic/motivational sessions, then groundwork is necessary because the purpose of the PI is not just to secure the hypnotic state, but to help the person break unhealthy thought patterns and replace them healtier ones.
In the therapeutic/motivational case, the PI is a tool to help create change, so you must do pre- and post-work for the pattern interrupt to work properly. The pre-work (in simplified terms) consists learning about the client's issues and thought patterns, identifying the unhealthy patters and determining which ones can be adequatley broken using PIs. The post-work (simplified) consists of teaching and reinforcing new, healthy thought patterns to replace the client's unhealthy ones.
Ok cool. It's my understanding that during the pattern interrupt the persons sub-concious is forced to the forefront and takes the directions you lead it down. One thing I wanted to ask, is that is it possible for some people to be more resilient to PI? Thank you for your reply. That was fast!
Pattern interrupts (PIs) are one of the most effective means of establishing the hypnoidal state, especially when PIs are done covertly (a handshake PI is not covert) or skillfully and overtly.
People can learn to resist overt forms of hypnosis. However, unless one is severely emotionally or mentally disturbed, s/he will in just about all cases of correctly performed pattern interrupts reach the hypnoidal state. Whether s/he quickly drops deeply into hypnosis depends on many factors.
NOTE: Hypnoidal is adjective referring to the state of initial, light hypnosis that occurs as a result of a pattern interrupt. Depending on the hypnotists skill patter and intention and the client's condition (mental state, confort with surroundings, etcetera), the hypnoidal state can either instantly or gradually be turned into deeper states of hypnosis.
I'm a big fan of hypnosis as it can be used not only for medical purposes but it feels very good.
I don't know how to hypnotize people but I already went though the experience, it felt so good I simply didn't care what the guy told me to do and I just did it, so its a personal choice, if you really don't believe or even worse don't want to, hypnosis wont do a thing to you.
Just my opinion, I'm sure others have a much better one.
Thanks, Bhuggy13. There are many different ways of properly doing pattern interrupts. If your way is effective, then you should keep doing it that way. Continue to do what is comfortable for you (and safe for your client/volunteer), and you will see your own personal style develop.
Dude can u tell me where or how to learn hypnosis, any kind im only 14 yrs old but imextremely interested and am willing to self- teach!!! just tell me where! thanx!
You must know that Hypnosis is a responsibility, you cannot Hypnotise them for personal gain. You can really mess up their minds. There was one story of a guy who was hypnotised during a magic show, and the effects kept going on and off, on and off...
I have to say this is something I have always been interested in.
I have what is perhaps a subconscious phobia of blood. Personaly I don't mind the stuff, but if I see it or get a needle I go into a seizure. Can I be hypnotised for this? Many thanks!
Yes, you can eliminate phobias using hypnosis (hypnotherapy). Generally, a phobia requires only one hypnosis session to address it to the client's satisfaction. (Some take more depending on various factors).
Are there any other kinds of powerful pattern interrupts? The only one I've ever seen is the handshake one, do verbal pattern interrupts work well too, or are they more difficult. For example if you just said something completely off topic and nonsensical, with a straight face, and authoritative tone, and then said "now you will forget you name" would that work? What would be the most efficient way to make someone forget their name?
There are many types of pattern interrupts. Some of the most interesting and effective ones are verbal. I recommend that you study NLP to learn more about pattern interrupts. (Continued below)
A non-sequitur (one that is appropriate to the situation) is a strong confusion or pattern interrupt technique. However, for consistent results, it's not enough to speak of dancing rabbits in the middle of a conversation, unless those rabbits apply to the entire situation (the conversation, setting, personal experience) in a way that will leave the affected person searching for the meaning as opposed to dismissing the comment quickly as entirely too absurd to deserve consideration.
You are awsome! And I love the fact that you do not hold back on information. You are an exellent person and an exellent teacher. You make everything so easy I even think I can learn and do stuff like you. Thank you for posting the video and for the help you give to people that realy want to learn this stuff.
Hey man I was going to ask you if you do a pre-talk im sure you do and how many covert suggestions do you do if any and what are the most powerful ones during the pre-talk.
I always conduct a "pre-talk" during hypnotherapy sessions. Whether or not I use waking suggestions or covert hypnosis depends on the client and situation. I set no quota for the number of waking/covert suggestions used during a session.
Another question: In what way do you interact with your clients? Do you use the standard procedure or do you alter your procedure on micro changes in non-verbal behaviour?
BTW:I think that a speed video course in hypnosis would really be appreciated by alot of youtube people.
There are many free references all over the internet. If you search a bit, you'll find them just as you have found me. I've posted my videos as a free (but copyrighted) reference to give people who are learning hypnosis a glimpse of different techniques of hypnosis.
Regarding your other question: My interaction/approach varies by client/volunteer.
He enters a state of hypnosis instantly--the moment the pattern interrupt occurs (when I move his hand toward his face instead of shaking it).
Because people viewing the video are not able to see my client's facial expressions, the arm levitation (his hand moving upward, after I move my hand away from his arm that is closest to the video camera) is the first overt sign to viewers that he is hypnotized.
Everything after the pattern interrupt is only a series of deepeners.
Ah okay. I have been reading alot about pattern interrupting and I want to try it out, but as it is my first time I guess it wont work pretty well.. Do you have any advices for me?
By the way, is this sort of hypnosis state just as powerfull as regular hypnosis where the victim knows he is getting hypnoticed?
Ethical use of hypnosis demands that your clients/volunteers shall agree to be hypnotized before you attempt to hypnotize them.
Although you might have been joking or might have been translating from another language to English when you chose the word "victim," I hope that you do not view the people you hypnotize as victims; and I hope the people that you hypnotize do not feel victimized. I recommend that you refer to people you hypnotize as either clients or volunteers, not victims.
The state of hypnosis induced by a pattern interrupt induction can be just as profound (or, to use your word, "powerful") as the trance induced by a classic induction, as long as the hypnotist understands how properly to secure and to deepen a trance.
My suggestions to you when learning pattern interrupts are:
1. Learn the basics of hypnosis well
2. Practice as frequently as possible until you consistently can successfully hypnotize people using pattern interrupt inductions.
I'm interested in lucid dreaming (because it's just so cool :D), and I was wondering: could one use self hypnosis to relax deep enough, and then instruct yourself to enter a dream state? I tried it, and it semi-worked; in the sense that I felt weird and and slightly disconnected for a few seconds. Is it possible?
Yes, you can use hypnosis to help you experience lucid dreaming. You can also use MILD (Mnemonic Induction of Lucid Dreams) and "Reality Testing" techniques.
It sounds like you're going to have fun with this. Let me know how it goes.
