He recovered from "pinned" or bottom stopped position. Very impressive leg power and in the jerk for a half second seemed like he could not sustain the load but he did well. Must have been adjusting. Chidlovski has clip of him snatching 157.5 he took long time bent over bar but when he started lift it seemed too easy to be a limit. 15kg more looked possible. But remember in those days they were pushing jerk records more than snatch then Sagir was snatch specialist more than in jerk.
later Rusev did a 209 at 75 then that young man throbbing with power, Varbanov, did 215.5 and looked good for the triple---225. Lara the Cuban was right there with 208---greatest lifter ever from Western hemisphere
Rusev and Vardanyan put on quite a show the 1978 World's in Gettysburg, PA. Do any of you lifting geeks remember another Bulgarian, 75 kg. Yordan Mitkov? Won the gold in Montreal. Short career, so strong it was scary. He power-cleaned 205, road it down and bounced back up with it effortlessly. These guys reminded me of chained lightning; Abadjiev would release them to do their thing and they'd leave carnage in their wake. Sad to see the sun seems to have set on Bulgarian weightlifting.
Yanko Rusev is one of the greatest lifters of all time. When he was 15 coaches claimed that he had no future in weightlifting. Years later he proved them wrong by winning 5 world and european titles and becoming olympic champion in 1980.

I notice that he jumps forward in the clean and jerks the bar a little forward similar to Suley.

isn't this on Chidlovski's site as 206kg?

Unless it's from the '82 worlds in Yugoslavia, I'm pretty sure you're right. Absolutely incredible lifter.
