  • that is wrong. the SVT is way faster than that. I used to own an 04' SVT and I actually beat this same model Jetta. I was surprised it stayed pretty close until we got to 50... then I pulled away. Both were stock except for my clutch, and i even had a passenger. I have done 0-60 in my SVT in just under 6sec. done 0-90 in 9 sec. with slipping a gear. even have a video of the 0-90(not on Youtube yet)

  • @k2skis05 Dude, sorry to burst your bubble, but any GTI with ANY available engine would outrun an SVT Focus with the same driver...Focus does 60 in 7.3 stock, GTIs have been under 7 seconds ever since the MKIV redesign. VW is VERY good at getting excellent performance out of the least power. And the new GTIs, forget it, they'll smoke any compact Ford right now and get 32mpg on the way home. Only price you pay is that ugly ass nose on the MKIVs...

  • @yellowmusicfreak We have these SVT's over the pond they are called ST170's and they never run at 170 horsepower its a load of bullshit. They have Cosworth cylinder heads and a VVT inlet cam and they only do 0-60 in 7.9 seconds. Any TDI with a remap will eat one of these for breakfast my 1.9 TDi has beaten a few english barry boys getting too overconfident in their ST170's and its won the fight. I wouldn't believe the 170 horsepower claim these engines run as low as 150 Bhp.

  • @1ns4ne1d10t thats funney, because in a magizine issue of "Car and Driver" the focus came in first place out of the GTI 1.8 turbo, yep thats right turbo, VW needs a turbo to get 10 extra crank horsepower over a svt focus and guess what.... The focus still beat it in the 1/4 mile and skid pad.

  • @loadedlover12 Thats just it these engines don't churn out 170 horsepower, because of the awful cylinder heads they ended having mixed power outputs unlike VW's 1.8T engines why don't you ask people who own ST170's they will tell you. VW needed a turbo? Its not like the SVT/ST170 didn't have a VVT inlet cam and modified cylinder heads from Cosworth to gain the extra horses and even with that they STILL couldn't get all the mass produced SVT's/ST170's to run equal power outputs unlike VW.

  • @1ns4ne1d10t Cosworth did a excellent job maxing out the cyl heads. my svt puts out 150 hp to the wheels . and 170 hp is 40 more hp then the reg zetec, I know yours over the sea is called a duratec but its the same engine

  • I just bought a used 2003 VW Jetta GLS 1.8T. I have to say I LOVE IT SOOO MUCH! and it makes me feel sooooooo good about myself. As far as focus' goes I never thought once about getting one, Jettas are without a doubt so much sexier. I don't know to much about the focus and with my ignorance I could care less to know. I just see it's a heated debate everywhere about the focus vs. jetta. So mark another down for the JETTA!

  • And as for looks on your opinion, it's you're taste if you like boxed up looking cars, might as well buy a scion. Like all golf or boxed up, I like curved looking hatched backs especially the first ford focuses, even dough the new focus st looks like god mode.

  • First thing I have to say the person who commented as for Jetta being better in handeling, your wrong. I don't see the Jetta on the top five rally cars, or also drifting, but I do see the ford focus rs on that list. The ford focus rs has one of the best suspensions when it comes to rally. Also that same suspension is on the American focuses, European inspired baby.

  • SVTs definitely have four wheel disc brakes, chief. Also, it's a single turbo motor making around 300 hp on the RS; and yep, it's still a focus.

  • This is true, the RS is sort of in a league of it's own. However, as of now the RS isn't available state-side, where as across the pond they have more comparable vehicles to the RS (think Renault Megane R26)

  • @earlyjo1 Hmmm, since when do stock SVT Foci have turbos? I like the SVT Focus, but in reality, the GTI/GLI has always been faster than any US spec Focus. If you're going for the Euro Focus ST/RS etc...that would be closer to the new Golf R and Scirocco R.

  • @VitaminE6SS Seems you've got your cars mixed up, the EURO Focus ST has a 220~bhp Volvo I-5, American ones use a Mazda I-4 making 151bhp. Both ENTIRELY different from an SVT which uses a naturally aspirated, Ford sourced, 2.0 Zetec with some FordRacing parts to make 170bhp.

  • @yellowmusicfreak I'm talikng about the brand new focus st in america man, the Euro focus until very recently were called focus RS and yes they use the volvo i5, base modle focus in america, yes they use the mazda3 i4's and svt use na high reving 2.0l. Idk maybe im confused im not so into cars these days. Its all about guns for me now..

SVT's werent made to be fast in a strait line, they were made to handle amazing, and there's only one FWD car that i know of that can compete and win over a SVTF in handleing, and thats a mini cooper S.

  • There are plenty of fwd cars that handle much better then the Svt. Off the top of my head the Type R civic/integra.

  • actually your wrong, mainly because even though the type r has a a lower COG it actually has a positive camber setting from the factory giving it god-awful understeer, the svt on the other hand comes STOCK with .5 degrees of negative camber AND chassis braces giving it superior handling to just about any car in it's class, if the svt weighed 2100 lbs it would move like a miata

  • lol ya the 1.8t jetta makes 180hp but weights 3,037lbs manual and the FSVT makes 170hp and weights 2,750. So to break it down for you guys. The jetta is 16.872lbs per horse power and the FSVT is 16.17647lbs per horse power. Thus making the FSVT faster with the same driver driving both cars. Hope that clears things up. ;P

  • Also, about this video, I think it's obvious that the SVTf starts after the Jetta, not at the same time. Whoever was driving the SVTf can't shift for shit, either (note the pause at 40mph). The Jetta driver shifts like a pro.

  • i think it's hilarious that so many people think this vid is somehow fake. Those are the correct gauges for each car. Now let me school some people:

    The SVT Focus has a really tall first gear, that's why 0-60 times are slow. As the Jetta is shifting into 3rd at 50mph, the SVTf has JUST gotten out of first at 40MPH... that's how tall 1st gear is. Above 50mph, 2nd to 5th are all close ratios, so the SVTf will trounce a lot of cars that other people think are faster based on quarter mile times.

  • The engine is a Zetec modified by Cosworth in conjunction with SVT. The exhaust was also designed by Cosworth. The suspension, brakes, wheels, clutch, interior and exterior were designed/tuned by SVT. And the trans is from Getrag.
