@MrLowAltitude We were talking about this aircraft and my instructor said there was a video on youtube (which was this one) about a plane called the Vodka Burner and we went out to take a look at it. It was pretty funny. And thank you very much for taking a look at my channel! :)
No shit the western counterpart sells more. I simply said they're beasts, which they are. I'm not arguing their safety record or sales. Quite frankly I said nothing about the two points you brought up. The manufacturers you mentioned also have some interesting safety records as well. Don't forget the 737s with their rudders.
beasts that leaved nasty safety records. Tell me one aircraft that has been better selling than a Boeing, Mcdonald Douglas, lockheed, and airbus. All the ones above have an aircraft that has sold way more than it's russian competitor.
@gordomarley Dont forget that Soviet aircraft were never sold, they were given, so you can not compare those two factors since Russian manufacturers entered free market in late 90's. Look at the production numbers and countries that fly them. Besides Su Superjet has already beaten Dreamliner in sales. Anyhow safety record is quite impressive with soviet equipment, just research a little more. Reason for that is that no one in Soviet Union wanted involuntary vacation in mid of Siberia.
Engine failure AFTER V1 would be interesting, committed to take-off. By rights, failure at or b4 V1 should allow the plane to stop. remember that V1 is reduced in the rain due to reduced braking ability by the wet surface.
some how they did it. no way this aircraft took off with legal loadsheet compared to the performance limitation. pure luck take off. the tech crew surely have their balls near their throat.. lol
If you take off with an overloaded plane you want to delay the take off to gain more speed than you actually need to get off the ground, because you can lift off with a lower angle off attack and it helps gaining speed after you are in the air. All jet planes have optimum rising speed, it is when (/\ drag lost thanks to a lower AoA) + (/\ thrust power gained thanks to higher airspeed) - (/\ drag gained due to higher airspeed) = 0
That was not a good take off for this heavy aircraft. Dangerous. That is an old aircraft from the times of Cold War. It should definitely stop flying anytime soon. Russia got some pretty good new aircrafts flying these days.
The IL76 is an extremely reliable aircraft... Why should one replace it with a costly new aircraft?
The longer an aircraft is around, the more the technicians are used to maintaining it.
This takeoff was nowhere near dangerous, what could have happened? Using all the runway for takeoff isn't forbidden and can be necessary under full cargo load.
Compare the IL76 to the incident statistics of the Boeing passenger planes who are built in similar numbers and you'll find it to be no worse than them.
Being the most widely used cargoplane in its class and the base for quite a few other, more modern russian planes, it's quite essential in the world of airplanes, as well...
A questionable or marginal takeoff usually demands firmly applying the wheel brakes whilst building up thrust for about 5 - 10 seconds to give a slight catapult effect to achieve takeoff speed sooner.
The Captain appeared to make a normal takeoff run which means he probably wasn't expecting the outcome.I would have loved to have heard the cockpit voice recording.

well imagine an engine failure near V1, you wouldn't have enough runway to stop....would you?
How many Boeings take off every hour/minute?
You can't compare them...
