  • Ey buddy...actually I think you have a good technique, and even if it does not sounds the same as the brown sound it sounds really cool for an amp like yours, despite of what some "dumb fucks" say about your video, I see people here that might not even know how to play the guitar just throwing shitty comments...keep rocking

  • Love it. Thanks for posting!

  • Everyone cab analyze the coveted fucking "Brown Sound" for eons to come, but the truth is Eddie's "Brown Sound" mostly comes from his hands and hours & hours of practice.Once the hands are in sync, basically most high gain amps and a humbucker equipped guitar (even a good rail pickup will suffice) - and THAT is the "secret"!!

  • @hazor777 You are right...but still sounds make a big difference...listen to this guy's technique is not bad...

  • Secrets to setting my peavy vyper so it will sound like evh's brown sound.Actually it sounds good but maybe cranking your volume up then using a noise gate will gett the full vibe at home .Actually i use a vox vt20plus and it has a 5150 amp stting and i crank the shit out of it. It's got a noise gate all the amps modern and old for 169.99.TRY ONE A GC .

  • ..you really should shoot your hairdresser!! he is making you look like a proper fuckin dickhead.

  • @coltsuperocean10 The only dickhead I see right now is you, with your irrelevant-ass commentary on my video. Gol' blimey me trousa snake's aroused mate. Go call a bobby and have him bring his lorry

  • @PJHAIGHT - that was a funny comeback -good video by the way - coltsuperocean10 probably dont have any hair so hes not only jealous of your guitar stuff but of your hair too

  • CMATMODS Brownie into clean Fender amp=Brown

    this is not that good.

  • Theres no secret. You crank a plexi... nuff said.

  • @NicksVids25 Actually there's more to it than that. Eddie cranked a plexi into a dummy load that produced a line-level output ( basically using a plexi as a distortion pedal) and ran that through a power amp, and the producer did some crazy stuff to it with e.q. and reverb. Apparently the tone in the room was quite different to what they got onto the record, and didn't actually sound that great.

  • could you repeat that one part about the guitar sound?

  • step 1: poop on your guitar.

    Enjoy your brown sound

  • @NapoleanXV Step 1: Come up with a joke that's actually funny.

    Enjoy the video.

  • @PJHAIGHT aww

  • @NapoleanXV get your finger out of ur ass and plug stright into a marshal 100w amp young man!

  • @dman44032 Sorry, can't afford one right now.

  • I didnt know dude went from helping Transformers to playin guitar!!!

  • @sacman68 Haha where do you get Transformers?

  • @PJHAIGHT Your not Shia LaBeouf? Ooooh, sorry, lol.

  • @sacman68 Nnnnnnope.

  • Eddie used a Plexi back in the 70's and at some point in time switched to the Peavey 5150 (renamed 6505 now.)

  • @RedLink17O wich rocks

  • I can't believe that he would have his low knob on zer0. I thought it would be all the way up.

  • @mapleblackdrums Well, it's not even on. It still isn't.

  • Dude..that's about what it sounded like to me in 1979..I was 11 and heard Eruption for the first time and it was like wow!! I don't know what the hell that was but I want some more!! Changed Rock and Roll forever! And I like the slogan.."No Bitchin" lol

  • @Lardassful Thanks man!

  • Pretty decent basic noise coming out of the amp. Stick a phaser on that "Eruption" bit and you're done. 8-)

    Nice work dude.

  • @grr619 "Basic noise" Thanks. I don't like using a phaser because he just had it in his signal chain, he didn't always use it.

  • awesome .

  • @MegaRockstar5150 Thanks!

  • Buy a Les Paul if you want Brown sound.

  • @Snotra Actually, Eddie Van Halen despised Les Pauls, because they just didn't feel right. But he took a PAF pickup and put it in a Strat, and, the rest is history. If you want to get the brown sound you have to find it yourself, but yes a Les Paul can help in some ways (primarily because of the pickups) but other than that you should really go with a straight up Super Strat and 80s amp sound.

  • Got my money back for a Peavey Vyper Tube 120 combo and Sampera II footswitch. Damn thing failed me live by locking up several times when trying to switch patches. Had to turn on and off the amp to 'reset' it. NOTHING WORSE than that happening! Yeah all the fancy tube modeling crap is great isn`t it? Plus it didn`t cut through very well (thin sounding with no tone) and the effects are crap. Not much adjustment to them. Screw the digital crap, I got a Bogner Ecstacy 101b with the A/B switch...

  • @jesman1 Everybody's tastes are different. It's apparent you got a faulty amp; things happen. I personally love my Peavey because I can get literally anything out of it. Thanks for watching.

  • @PJHAIGHT Yeah I got a faulty amp ...me and about 25,000 others. Upon doing some research I discovered that it is a serious issue. Maybe the smaller amps don`t suffer from this, if so great. I`d use one in the bedroom for practice, they sound better at lower volumes to me. Rock on~

  • Thanks for posting. I'm not expert on Van Halen but, your stuff sure was convincing.

  • @future4you Thank you! I've always been a fan of Van Halen so i've had a lot of time to delve deep into his playing style.

  • when i take a dump it has a brown sound...

  • @xpez \m/

  • fuck you haters! I love this kid!!! nice work bro! teach me! ive got 3 broken fingers and have to play drums now!... arrrggghhh!!!!!

  • @madmarv86 Thanks for the kind words, i'll be posting a new video shortly. Sorry about your fingers.

  • try turning your lows full open, mids off, and highs full open....

  • no bass huh? for not having any it sounds pretty damn good man especially since your not using any delay either

  • @Sean2592 This is a very old video. My new EVH tone is 100% better, and includes some bass tone and delay. New video up soon!

  • Do you use the "brown sound" to create your own music too?

  • @VioletDeliriums Yes I do, but not always. I'm going to be updating this video soon! Stay tuned. :)

  • I was almost sure this was going to suck. But wait, that's actually a really good sound.

There's a kind of shimmer in the midrange that's easiest to hear when you play just a tonic and 4th together. It's very close to the early VH tone, like in Running With the Devil."

  • @TehGav Thank you very much! I need to update this, my new Brown Sound is SERIOUSLY so much better.

  • id turn the pre down to about 5.5 at the max. eds tone is a cranked tube tone which you cant get from a solid state but to get closer lower the pregain. it makes playing more difficult for a novice player but it will make u better and clean up your sound.

  • Peavey is not for rock

  • @zanik00 Says who?

  • @zanik00 Yeah,... its for METAL!

  • @zanik00 There's a whole legion of musicians, amateur and professional alike that would greatly disagree with that statement. The Peavey 5150/6505/6534 series is the standard for modern high-gain rock/metal, the 3120 and JSX amplifiers are screamers....the Classic 30/50's are absolutely phenomenal for more classic rock/blues. The old Mace, Deuce, Classic VT's are on some of the biggest records in modern rock music history...not to mention blues and country as well.

  • @bowslap They make good amps and now for rock they make good ones too. IT's not a standard at all but still a good amp :)

  • @zanik00 pretty sure it is, i get some good 80's stuff off of it. Ted Nugent uses a peavey, and EVH was a sponsor and his Wolfgang's made by Peavey.

  • LOL just buy a Wampler Pinnacle distortion pedal.

  • @serthedoorsgio95 Exactly.

  • @serthedoorsgio95 Or you could watch my videos and learn a little bit more, instead of having his tone handed to you. I've had to work for everything that I own, guitars, amps, etc. And it took me forever to figure out something that sounds close to his tone.

  • Piss on the haters, you are working with what you have, and I think it sounds great! Most of these people that rip others apart for trying to dink around with tone and such are the same dweebs that never played a gig, or opened for nationals, or have ever written a riff aside from tweeking a van halen riff!

  • do you want to hear the secret of the brown sound? you have to have eddie's hands and mind! there is no way you can reproduce the brown sound, even eddie can't! eddie had some special gear back in the day, thats for sure! but it all came from his hands! and by the way, the 10 band eq was rarely used... don't take it as a critic bubt as a lesson

  • Theres a tube screamer on the effects channel on the 15 would that be the same as the effect on the stomp box?

  • @joshe192 It might be, I'm not sure as i've never really tried out the 15 watt.

  • LOL

  • There's no secret. A Strat with a humbucker into a non master volume 100w Marshall into a green back equipped 4x12, dimed. No effects are needed. That's got way too much distortion. He's never used a overdrive pedal. Cranking any tube amp to 10 should do it. The 4x12 cab with a SM57 in front is really important. Your getting real close.

  • @MrUltraworld Thanks for the critiques, I appreciate it! :)

  • @MrUltraworld on VH1 he had a 10 band EQ with a mid boost. and the tape echo for a little added "hugeness" to the sound.

  • @frankenstrat25 Your absolutely right. I have one myself. It's a great clean boost. I guess I was trying to express that he used very little but the guitar into a non master volume head. I have a non master 50w plexi that sounds glorious dimed out.

  • @MrUltraworld my little kustom 20 watt dual speaker combo is actually really good for megadeth EVH and john fogerty (CCR era) tone. i really like it. i have it nice and twangy with just the right gain and mid. maybe one day if i get a nice mic. i can get to work on a vid.

  • this guy is way too exciting

  • can u do it on the 15 watter?

  • @FEAROWNAGE I believe i've already discussed this, but I don't think it's currently possible to do this on the 15, but however you can make something that sounds like the Brown Sound for sure on them. Thanks for watching!

  • keep pressing 6:30 for "inky"

  • @FEAROWNAGE Hahaha.

  • sounds a little too "woody"

  • @OakPark11MileRd Yep, and people flipped.

  • @OakPark11MileRd BAHAHAHA. You just made my day. I just paused the video and started to make another one haha

  • because you love me lol..

  • @SanEverett Yep, I love you.

  • @PJHAIGHT Amp sounds pretty good. That may be what I get soon.I've owned a lot of expensive gear but haven't played in about two years.Don't even have a guitar now..Will be getting an axe and amp soon...That little Vyper has good growl...Are their any other sounds in your opinion it does pretty good? I play the usual palette of sounds from Eddie to Srv,hendrix etc..

  • @SanEverett It gets a really good Hetfield/Hammett tone, I like the nice Angus Young tone, Page/Beck/Clapton tones, and it you like drop tunings it especially pulls off a Dimebag. There are so many possibilities with the amp, I really recommend it!

  • i have no complaints...good job man..its not perfect but to be perfect you'd need ed's fingers for that! :) keep up the good work and tell these other tools to shove it

  • what do you mean it wont work with the 15? it sounds sick!

  • @Ericclapton325 The 15 watt doesn't have all of the effects that my 75 watt has, at least I'm pretty sure it doesn't. Anyway, cheers! Thanks for watching.

  • @Ericclapton325 the 15 doesn't have the stompboxes

  • No offense dude your tone is not VH or Brown at all. If that is your goal, sell the Peavey, and get a Dave Friedman Marsha or Naked, or a Metroamp 12000 series plexi, then get a Super Distortion P/U, and a Northern Ash Body from Divebomb, and you will be so happy you did.

  • @JTM45100 I have pointed out that this is an old video. OLD being the key word here. I have improved upon my tone since then and gotten better guitars and all around, simply improved. I agree this is not my most valiant effort to capture Ed's tone, but hey, it is what it is, and if it ain't broke don't fix it. I'll be posting another follow up video sometime, maybe that might please you. Thanks for watching! :) -Pete

  • look into the camera!

  • @mdskewes I try to, but when i'm reading off the preset list and then having to demonstrate is a little hard, i'm sorry. This is an old video too, i've gotten a lot better now.

  • vary close

  • @dillonmcannnell I know, but i'm afraid that's as far as anyone will get

  • @PJHAIGHT equipment only accounts for a portion of your tone, the rest comes from your fingers and how you play! cheers! :)

  • Jeez. Post the slide and play...way too much yap, yap, yap.

  • @krelbar You can't rush perfection. Thanks for watching!

  • Check this amp out..not for sale yet..still being tested ...search this video

    its called ...

Best VH tone for Brown Sound , Clean ,or Blues part 4

  • How do you get so many darn views?!

  • @Swiggles1987 Dude, I don't even know. Brown sound is a popular term to look up, hahah!

  • good job. try putting the high, mid and low all on high cuz he said that in a lot of videos and the post gain on half

  • @jimmy99684 Thanks. But the amp that models his tone doesn't have a very defined low and midrange. It was built like that on purpose. And trust me, i've tried EVERYTHING you can think of to get his tone pretty good. This is as close as i've gotten. Now, more about that low/midrange scoop. The amp that Peavey copied over to the Vypyr had a broken circuit which allowed for higher highs and the bass doesn't work that good. It's either on or off, there's no extended control. But thanks for watching!
