I have had such a hard time getting good mic placement and guitar tone. 1.2k is a weird place to boost, at least in my experience, but I don't think my starting tone is the best either. I guess I'll just have to turn down the amp to hear it better in my headphones when looking for the sweet spot
@dreaminginnoother Yeah man I try and keep the amp as low as possible when dialing it in, with the headphones very loud to drown it out. I don't want to hear the cab at all.
@fearcomplexmusic I'll take your advice for next time, even though it seems like it should have been self evident:P. Thanks, and thanks for your videos.
What about your room noises? Reverb etc? Do you have troubles, a special room or is it just similar to recording in a living room? I don't get such nice results with my sm57 trough my bugera 6262.
Are there any tipps for avoiding reverb? Basically you dont really hear a lot reverb in my recordings but the guitars just don't sound like they are coming directly out of the computer speaker.
@DerJust661 Hey no my room isn't treated. It's pretty dead so I don't have problems with it. If you're picking up too much room reflections try surrounding the cab with some blankets. You have to be careful though because if you smother it too much it will sound stuffy/boxy.
@DerJust661 hey man. I've had the same freakin problem —
What kind of microphone are you using? Uni,Omni, etc...
I recently gave in and started using Amp sims n IRs on my laptop to record, I'd suggest giving it a try if possible; cus you can pretty much fuck around with em to mimic your OWN stack's sound, and still get that upnclose vibe that's hard to get in a crappy room
@DerJust661 i forgot to say: I used an Omni-directional mic (which is best for vocals, but all I have); and from what I've heard a Uni(one)-directional mic (like the one used in this video) is going to wield the best results in micing a cab for that in you face guitar-recording
thats all good but if u neeed to get it to fit with mix u gotta ramp up ur 2-6k range because the spectrum of ur guitar tone in this vid was lackin there. look at pro guitar track spectrun
@neo69hk That's a good question. I've done extensive research on this, and have gotten some ideas. I'm not sure what the exact techniques Fear uses, but for starters, look up the HAAS Effect & Precedence Effect. Check into Comb FIlters. Also, start learning about Phase. You would be suprised what you can do just by Routing tracks, and Phase Fliping tracks. Once more, I don't know his specific technique, but the use of MultiCompressors can really give your tracks added depth. GL
@snapascrew Hey yeah I tried that before. I liked the mids and top end but the bass disappeared. With my setup at least I've found 2 inches is just right, enough to get rid of those boxy mids but the low end remains in tact.
don't forget to make something for your low budget fans aha i mean i can´t afford for a cab and a head. just impluses and a amp sims :/ i hope some day can buy a decent setup.
Always depends on the individual cab. Even two of the same model speakers and cabs can give you slight differences in sound when placing your mics. Just use your ears and listen for the sound you like best.
@Mauhadeeb28 Sure this is true, but it is of no help for beginners. Some corner stones of recording can be shown just as kind of 'start from here and go wherever you want to.'

@ransisua Thanks, there's some compression on the mix but not on the guitars themselves.

Will you do a video to tell something about what magic do you do after recording the guitar sound?.
so much better than you Miking A Cab sound after the mixing.

my exact position on my mf400, but the lower left speaker. With my new vader 4x12 though, it's kinda tricky finding the perfect spot.
