  • I have had such a hard time getting good mic placement and guitar tone. 1.2k is a weird place to boost, at least in my experience, but I don't think my starting tone is the best either. I guess I'll just have to turn down the amp to hear it better in my headphones when looking for the sweet spot

  • @dreaminginnoother Yeah man I try and keep the amp as low as possible when dialing it in, with the headphones very loud to drown it out. I don't want to hear the cab at all.

  • @fearcomplexmusic I'll take your advice for next time, even though it seems like it should have been self evident:P. Thanks, and thanks for your videos.

  • What EQ plugin are you using?

  • @Prs4ever111 Can't remember which one sorry. Probably just the stock Reaper EQ.

  • @fearcomplexmusic: OK, thanks. I think i've found an EQ plugin i quite like now ;)

  • nice video man

  • @RyanAbbott1000 Thanks!

  • wow man killer thrash sound ... totally agree with MIC placement nice sweet spot. did u use double or quad tracking???

  • @eydentube Hey man thanks! This is dual tracked.

  • Impressive video. This really shows the sonic differences slightly adjusting the mic can make. Thanks for posting.

  • @nbrothergtr Thanks!

  • How the hell ARE you moving the mic while playing that riff...

Awesome jam at the end btw!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'd like to hear that whole song I bet it's a fuckin beast :)

  • I didn't kno people measured that shit out with rules n shit... lmao

  • do you have a vst with its own electric guitar library? for free lol

  • Hi There!

What about your room noises? Reverb etc? Do you have troubles, a special room or is it just similar to recording in a living room? I don't get such nice results with my sm57 trough my bugera 6262.

Are there any tipps for avoiding reverb? Basically you dont really hear a lot reverb in my recordings but the guitars just don't sound like they are coming directly out of the computer speaker.

I'm struggling with this s*** for 2 years now..

    Nice sound dude!

  • @DerJust661 Hey no my room isn't treated. It's pretty dead so I don't have problems with it. If you're picking up too much room reflections try surrounding the cab with some blankets. You have to be careful though because if you smother it too much it will sound stuffy/boxy.

  • @DerJust661 hey man. I've had the same freakin problem —

What kind of microphone are you using? Uni,Omni, etc...

I recently gave in and started using Amp sims n IRs on my laptop to record, I'd suggest giving it a try if possible; cus you can pretty much fuck around with em to mimic your OWN stack's sound, and still get that upnclose vibe that's hard to get in a crappy room

  • @DerJust661 i forgot to say: I used an Omni-directional mic (which is best for vocals, but all I have); and from what I've heard a Uni(one)-directional mic (like the one used in this video) is going to wield the best results in micing a cab for that in you face guitar-recording

  • yeah that's a pretty good way to do it!!, I just wish I had 4 arms like you so I can play the guitar and move the mic at the same time ¬¬

  • great tutorial. i need to test it with my SM7 mic. thanks.

could you give info about kick & snare at the end of the video? i really love that kick, what sample and processing did you use?

    thanks man.

  • Nice working. Is there any compression?

  • @ransisua Thanks, there's some compression on the mix but not on the guitars themselves.

  • Can you do a presentation of the new MetalADPak for Addictive Drums?

    Thats my wish ;)

  • @HENTSCHIMUSIC Hey yeah I got the metal pak for ad and it's great. Will definitely do something with it!

  • is that a riff from "six hour beating"?/good vid :)

  • @theweberjosh Hey Josh I'm not too sure, need to listen to it again. I think there's one in that that could be similar. My memory's shot!

  • very nice. I love that you always post up some settings on your vids. Great sound

  • thats all good but if u neeed to get it to fit with mix u gotta ramp up ur 2-6k range because the spectrum of ur guitar tone in this vid was lackin there. look at pro guitar track spectrun

  • Find Roxolder, please and make for him few impulses. (Mercuriall Cab dinamical convolution developer) mercuriall.iks.r u - it's her site.

  • What's that mic ?

  • @Sm0key90 It's a Shure SM57

  • Will you do a video to tell something about what magic do you do after recording the guitar sound?.

so much better than you Miking A Cab sound after the mixing.

  • @neo69hk That's a good question. I've done extensive research on this, and have gotten some ideas. I'm not sure what the exact techniques Fear uses, but for starters, look up the HAAS Effect & Precedence Effect. Check into Comb FIlters. Also, start learning about Phase. You would be suprised what you can do just by Routing tracks, and Phase Fliping tracks. Once more, I don't know his specific technique, but the use of MultiCompressors can really give your tracks added depth. GL

  • thats one hell of a tone right there

  • try micing dead center cone ON axis but like 6 inches back. it's what adam d does, im curious to hear what you think of it.

  • @snapascrew Hey yeah I tried that before. I liked the mids and top end but the bass disappeared. With my setup at least I've found 2 inches is just right, enough to get rid of those boxy mids but the low end remains in tact.

  • @snapascrew check out my vid...similar idea

  • Attenuating 2.4K helps most of the time

  • since you mentioned Re amping i am planning to buy the "Radial X-amp" unit for reamping projects.

i know it rocks, i just wanna lnow what reamp box you're using? :)

  • don't forget to make something for your low budget fans aha i mean i can´t afford for a cab and a head. just impluses and a amp sims :/ i hope some day can buy a decent setup.

  • Thanks for doing the mic tutorial! :)

  • my exact position on my mf400, but the lower left speaker. With my new vader 4x12 though, it's kinda tricky finding the perfect spot.

  • Is the Border Collie working the Mic? ;~}

  • @shredder0911 LOL. he was supervising!

  • @fearcomplexmusic I bet he was playing that riff!

  • 0:27 sounds like that classic 80's Bay Area tone.

  • how would u change the position while playing? ... it seems like a loop, hows that?

  • @hobazzz Yeah I'm reamping the riff in a loop from my interface to the amp.

  • @fearcomplexmusic ahh i see, great :) .. ur always the man

  • @ClarenceGarcia it costs 1.000 euros per hour + shipping

  • Always depends on the individual cab. Even two of the same model speakers and cabs can give you slight differences in sound when placing your mics. Just use your ears and listen for the sound you like best.

  • @Mauhadeeb28 Sure this is true, but it is of no help for beginners. Some corner stones of recording can be shown just as kind of 'start from here and go wherever you want to.'

  • @SomethinWild I figured this video was the "start from there".

I was once a beginner and I learned by using my ear. It isn't that hard.
