This is what bothers me the most. I didn't see this program but BET putting on these prosperity teachers (not ones who help poor communities, talk about sin, Jesus) and Black people are being deceived from their money. Stay up and watch BET on Sunday nights. They're not in a church but in a studio with a desk talking about sowing money. Where's the money going? Where's the outreach ministries? A discerning Christian can figure it out. BET has sold out for money. Sad

What has been bothering me lately is that Riverside Chruch pays their pastor a salary of 600,000. The President of the United States makes $500,000. It is expensive in NY, but come on now. I would have been ok with it if he made that with selling books or tapes. The church could use some of that for reserves, repairs, helping members who are being evicted, pay members college tuition, and foster community programs. This would keep members and bring in more members. Duh!

That is so true but to answer your questions about getting back to the way it needs to be like back in the day well...people are not ready or willing to give up things that are not of GOD Sister. Why charge so much for the gospel.??. As Paul said..the worker is worth his due....but He paul said that he didn't even charge the Corinthians...he did not always ask for money when he went to spread the gospel. We should operate out of love at all times. Whether or not a church can afford you, you should preach IN season and OUT of season. If they can pay you, then that is IN season, if they can;t, then that is OUT of season.... :-)...Love is the key word.

There are many false profits. There are many out there that use the church for gain instead of gathering flock for the "CHURCH" If I have to pay to hear the word of God, I run the other way. Many ministers place an emphesis on financial prosperity instead of teaching the true meaning ..The book of Proverbs .( The book of ethical and moral living).

And are you saying that the Black Christian identity in Christianity is found in the Black Church? If so, I absolutely postively will have to disagree.

Thats not what I meant at all. I feel that everything has sub sections(for lack of a better term).Those sections are a part of the whole.You can't reach everyone with the same ministry or outreach. I dont see a problem with it being a black church because "black" to me doesnt mean skin color but a community.Long as the message is truly the word of God it will transcend those boundaries.

I don't believe how I look at the term Black Church to be shallow at all. And I will go out on a limb and say most people when they hear Black Church do not think about community as you do. But a church full of Black People. I see the postive in things, I see the negative in things and I also see the bias in things. I don't like the term Black Church, and I stand on that. We will have to agree to disagree on that.

There is a difference in focus/motive to me when we say Black Church and Black community. Also, regarding that program, nothing that was addressed only affected the Black Church or Black Christians. Unless I missed that part, which I could have I missed the first few minutes of it ;). You sound like you feel I am taking the term too far, but I have my reasons. I wonder how would we feel if white people had a program just addressing the White Church.

I can't believe that some of these people want to act oblivious talking about what is a black church! Its the church that shapes and helps the black community when you weren't "allowed" to worship anywhere else and now. The church that responds to the needs of the black community when noone else will. The church that gives african americans an identity in christianity.

Thank you for commenting! I believe the difference or point of disagreement is in the terms used. I don't think anyone here is oblivious to the needs of the Black community, White community or Chinese Community etc. My problem comes in, as a black person, when each group seperates themselves from each other. We are all the Body of Christ. Different parts, same body.

Certain terms we use often times continues to promote subtle segregation in the Body versus unity in the Body. This is where I am coming from. I am in no way shape or form belittling the Black Community or OUR identity.

I totally agree but I think sometimes we give words too much power especially when the intent was never what the interpretation is. I think motive and intent should always be included in a critique or judgement.I wasn't trying to disagree if that is how it was perceived.

christianity 101 folks! things are extra complicated these days yet the mystery of the Gospel is already revealed. what's with the extras? we need to get back to the basics before more ppl find themselves in hell wondering where their "seed" into prophet or apostle so-and-so's ministry disappeared to. it worries me how many ppl are in danger (preachers included) and don't know or ignore it.

Great video. The light skinned preacher you were speaking of is Bishop Tony Alvarado from Atlanta. He was the best panelist. He was truly honest. What I found interesting was the "young guns" segment. When Bishop J Delano Ellis stated that a number of young preachers accommodate people in their sins and lives are not being transformed. Pastor Jamal Bryant got so defensive and wnt into a long tirade about how young preachers are not reinventing the wheel but putting spinners on them. No

I Agree, WHAT THE HECK IS A BLACK CHURCH (and I'm Black and don't know) or ANY other color church for that matter? I kept mentioning all these non black people to my mother, who I would have like to hear their perspective, who told me to tune in and she had to keep reminding me that it was based on the "Black Church".

I believe that these types of things are what actually help to hinder the church, more than help them. I agree there are times when you must talk about issues that relate to a certain group of people. But when you talk about the State of the Church(Body of Christ), that should involve all colors, man, women, etc. We all have a part in it.

Yes! i am gratefull i have been able to go to a church where i am the minority tho..because now i understand the black man/womans perspective as a minority in some countries! and i can see how racism is an issue and skin color can be a concious issue. I wonder how would that come across, if everyone was to go around describing there church as a particular color church. I think the issue is with me, when I say church, I am talking about the Body of Christ not a particular local church with four walls.

Yes, your 100% right! The church is the body of christ not the building. The trouble with calling it a Black church excludes automatically any white persons. It creates a seperate comunity, it brings about Devision in the body of Christ. Well if people cant take the kingdom mentality are they really children of God?
