  • hey ppl. ive applied to auckland uni and AUT for engineering. civil for auckland and mechanical for AUT. is it hard to get in to these unis?

if i do get a place in both of these unis which one is better?

    tnx

    Ali

  • both good

  • Im been studying at Auckland Uni for 2 years now majoring in Science, and im just lovin it here. If you do get accept to both AUT and UA, i suggest you go to UA, because it is the best, ESPECIALLY if you going to do an engineering degree.

    UA's the way

  • it really depends i think on what youve been offered to study, btw auckland has a huge indian community and i met some real nice indian students one of which i shared a flat with, you need to make a choice based on your needs i think, do you mind if i ask what youve been asked to study? plus i dont know too much about edinburgh totally opposite sides of the world. lol also my experience maybe different from others so im happy to share my experiences but ask around as well!

  • I have been offered English Literature with International Relations, but i have initially thought of doing law, but unfortunately both UK and Kiwi law is not recognised in India:(

  • anyone know how the University of Auckland is?

  • yeah i went there, i loved my time there and got a world recognised degree too, why do you ask? if your looking to study something particular like Law the Arts, Engineering and Medicine, Auckland has the best courses in NZ, but other disciplines you may want to look at other Universities in NZ and if your looking for the full University experience youll need to go to another university in my opinion student life there is waaay better lol.

  • Well I'm an arts student from BC, Canada and was thinking about doing a semester or two abroad. New Zealand looks like an interesting country to spend so some time in so I'm just curious what Auckland University is like. What other universities would you suggest?

  • Otago, Waikato (in Hamilton), Victoria (Wellington), Massey (Auckland) and AUT (Auckland)University are the other ones that come to mind. BTW Canada is very similar to New Zealand from what i've heard. So if you are looking for a place that's ridiculously different to Canada, don't come here :D

  • thanks for the suggestions, butyeah I have been there once and really enjoyed it, but it is incredibly similar to my home province of BC. But it is more about the culture and experience than anything else.

  • I'm just curious, how is our culture like to a person from Canada like yourself? I've basically grown up here, so its hard for me to compare New Zealand culture to any other cultures out there. Im not a big fan of travelling, so I guess I'll just let you tell me lol

  • i work overseas now, 2 be honest, the canadians ive met since ive been here seem to have been similar to us, it depends on where in canada your from, NZ is often described as a smaller version of Australia, (which i grudgingly agree with) we dont have racial tension the way they do. Auckland in particular is very multicultural,NZers have an outdoor type of lifestyle its a damn beautiful country to explore, plus our native ppl are treated better than most, Maori is also an official language too.

  • Haha it's okay, and yes NZ rocks! Im an Asian and this country is da best!

  • oops so sori i didnt read your comment properly, my bad, ignore what i wrote lol

  • I got an offer both from University of Auckland ad university of Edinburgh in Scotland, I am from India..btw.

So kindly tell me which is going to be a better option and a better place to live and study

  • Im guessing the Univeristy of Ediburgb gives you a more reconised degree? But Auckland university is terrific as well, we got a new multi billion dollar commerce building completed last year :D And Auckland has a mild climate, unlike Edinburgh, so it would suit you better since you come from a tropical country. Not to mention the kiwi dollar is lower than the pound sterling! Good luck in your decision though...

  • Multi million sorry, ugh that was a big mistake lol :P
