Not the Grid Marhsall's fault. A car on the grid that waves off being released from the grid--to another car goes to the back of the grid. If a car is mistakingly gridded on the wrong spot, then the crew chief should have told the grid marshall of the mistake, who would then release the cars in the correct order.

He was a rookie driver racing on a novice permit. Novices are required to complete two races with a satsifactory rating before they are issued their full competition license. In this, his second race, he did not get that satisfactory grade in his novice book and had to complete one more race before applying for his full license. BTW, this driver has gone on to become a premier driver, winning many races and championships since this video was taken.

By trying to be polite and allowing the 7th place car go ahead of him, the marshal must assume at that point he has a mechanical problem, which means if he does resolve it, he must by rule be placed at the back of the field.

No kind gesture goes unpunished. I've got to believe the radios were going crazy while the flagging stations witnessed him passing like mad during the pace lap.
