AEPK, I couldn't disagree more - to me his singing goes straight to the heart of the poetry. Noble, with a full range of colour , dynamic, the whole package.have heard him sing these live, and it was a highlight of my concert-going life. Each to his own, of course...:-)
Sir Thomas' voice is rich and melodious. What a pity he isn't more expressive. He has the means and the skills but somehow he sings almost mechanically. After all, this is poetry.
@aepk1 I disagree. I think he's an incredible actor, even on recording, and especially in art song. I think what you're actually hearing is Rattle's weird tempos pushing him.
