actually, Pontiac told Universal Studios to stop referring to KITT as a Trans Am because people were going to dealerships asking for KITT versions of the car. That's why in the 3rd and 4th seasons, KITT was always referred to as a "black t-top"

I always thought that was odd considering Knight Rider was one of the reasons the car sold so well. It's the reason I have one! :)

To address some of these questions, no that is not an '84 shown and no, this is not a real commercial, it is fan made as stated earlier, so GM was not "asking for it". I too would like to see the real commercial without the fan editing inserting KITT. Who's got it?

Pontiac's T/A always looked to the future (rather than the past, as so many cars today seem to do--- lazy ass designer bastards). I've always thought it was way better looking than the Corvette. And hell, the recent ones were just as fast, and half the cost. I'll take a T/A, please :)

Funny thing is that GM asked Universal To stop mentioning KITT as a Trans Am because too many people were coming in to showrooms asking for KITT copies.

That's why pretty much after the first season, Kitt was always described as a "Black T-Top".

There was one year in the 1980's in which they dropped the 350 5.7 Liter and used strictly the 305 5.0 in E.V.E.R.Y.T.H.I.N.G.

that was 1983. that's why they didn't make the corvette that year. they couldn't figure out how to make their cross-fire injection system work on the 5.7.

I dunno, that injection system didn't work in anything at all period. The TPI was alot better, but still the long runners made them have no power up top at all. The LT1 cars finally did it right with short runners, but were basically the same as tuned port, injection-wise.

so that explains it. I had and 87 IROC, 5.0L TPI. it had a lot of torque at low rpm's, but peaked out real quick.

I always will love the cars look, but that TPI system while now looking back sucked, at the time it was some great technology. I just wish I knew why they went with those long runners. The low end gains weren't much compared to the huge top end breathing problems.
