  • I believe when Norfolk Southern runs more steam excursions, with the TVRM locomotives, they will use their own coaches, which are more modern coaches with sealed windows like these. The reason is probably because the older steel coaches with open windows are friction bearing, whereas more modern streamline coaches are roller bearing. Norfolk Southern doesn't like friction bearing equipment because of the risk of overheating bearings. The Knoxville to Chatt trip on Nov 14 used a few NS coaches.

  • I've got video of this from Steam Heritage Days on October 9! Sample vid posted but I'll eventually post a vid of that day's events! I remember when that engine just sat in the yard back in the 1980s doing nothing! Glad it runs again, and I rode behind it! To me it was interesting to see this "old" pulling "new"" cars-vintage cars would have been rather obvious.

    Might be cool to see the Tom Thumb pull the Acela-that sort of thing!! The little engine that probably couldn't.

  • It's a shame they don't have open or more vintage cars.
