@myamericanpie 2 reasons. If the cars have on new tires and are shiny, they swerve side to side to try to get the shine off the tires. Second reason is because turning corners is the fastest way to generate heat in a tire, they basically turn several small turns when they go from side to side quickly, therefore heating up the tires to optimal temperature for the first lap.
