I'm from the old skool. Mary J. has been in industry for a long time. Now be honest with yourself. She has made some great music, she has sung, from great experience, heartache & turmoil, BUT Mary J. Blidge (Vocally), IS NOT a great singer. She will always be a "hip-hop" artist. Faith wins this one hands down. Keisha is a very good singer, that still has a lot to prove (longevity, originality, vocal talent), and a long way to go.
@METrades Your comment is probably the most similar to my opinion. What's the 411? was one of the first albums I bought on cassette and it blew me away, as did Faith's debut album. Mary has the swagger and attitude and is slightly rougher around the edges than Faith. But Faith can bring the more soulful emotion in her singing that seems more 'ladylike' perhaps. I am not sure if it's the lyrics or the melodies, but Keyshia's and Faith's songs have 'touched' me more than Mary's. Blessed singers.
Faith's voice is a little more soothing...the only thing mary really has on keisha is longevity...they appeal differently...if u ask me...one has to be in the mood for all three as individuals...keisha has some ways to go inorder to get/reach the level of respect mary has...mary j. blige is a house hold name so automatically she gets 2nd place w/o reason...

In her earlier days MJ was known as a studio singer and referred to as the slayer because she would butcher a song when singing live.
And Faith used to sound like she was moaning in her early days.
Obviously they've improved and honed their skills but comparing them now and then - Faith takes it.
Over time they all have become better - God knows Mary used to hit some flat notes. In the end Faith is a more polished vocalist than Mary. Kesha is good but this isn't her league

I'm from the old skool. Mary J. has been in industry for a long time. Now be honest with yourself. She has made some great music, she has sung, from great experience, heartache & turmoil, BUT Mary J. Blidge (Vocally), IS NOT a great singer. She will always be a "hip-hop" artist. Faith wins this one hands down. Keisha is a very good singer, that still has a lot to prove (longevity, originality, vocal talent), and a long way to go.

@METrades Your comment is probably the most similar to my opinion. What's the 411? was one of the first albums I bought on cassette and it blew me away, as did Faith's debut album. Mary has the swagger and attitude and is slightly rougher around the edges than Faith. But Faith can bring the more soulful emotion in her singing that seems more 'ladylike' perhaps. I am not sure if it's the lyrics or the melodies, but Keyshia's and Faith's songs have 'touched' me more than Mary's. Blessed singers.

Mary definitely sings with emotion and one knows she puts herself into the music but I'm sorry, title or whatever she's not a better vocalist than Faith.
In her earlier days MJ was known as a studio singer and referred to as the slayer because she would butcher a song when singing live.
And Faith used to sound like she was moaning in her early days.
Obviously they've improved and honed their skills but comparing them now and then - Faith takes it.

Mary has more range than both Keyshia and Faith combined. There's videos of Mary hitting first soprano notes and sustaining that note for over 5sec, Keysiha and Faith could NEVER hit a first soprano note. Nothing more needs to say.

Mary came into the game at 19, and she was a beast then---so she was far advanced until the drugs. I'm glad Mary got it back.
