I stayed in Vancouver August 2009 for as long as I could and I really wanted to try the Canada Line since I used SkyTrain all the time or tahm as they say in Texas lol. This is great to see because I have been curious what the line is like. If the Olympics pushed the deadline earlier to get it built I say that's fantastic....
@Evanforevertill2012 Yes, all of Vancouver's train lines are automated/computer-driven/driverless. In fact it's the world's largest automated train system. But fear not, the computer-system has been statistically proven to be much safer and reliable than systems requiring drivers. And above all, because it doesn't require drivers/labour, it's easy to increase frequency - with a push of a button.
good stuff am planning on buying a $40 lotto ticket on my birthday next month and if i do win the max lotto im taking this to get to richmond well will have to take the 160's first to van than this
SkyTrain served over 710,000 passengers on Feb 14, 2010, a new record. And this was without a sweat. 210,000 was on Canada Line alone, besting the previous Canada Line record of 135,000 pax. I think the system could handle 1,000,000 pax in a day, albeit somewhat stressful until all platforms (Expo and Canada Lines) are extended.
It's somthing that stinkin' Seattle desparately needs. But given the propensity for shortsightness in American politics, all Seattle has is a monorail, a relic of the 1962 World's Fair and the quickest way from Seattle Center to nowhere else.
the trains are only 2 cars long? Thats not very strategically thought out as I would guess that the passenger levels would soon require some expansion as people are attracted to using it.
They are. There is going to be a line known as the Olympic Line while the Olympics are pon runnign from the Canada Line Olympic village station to Granville Island. After the Olympics are over they will extend it to science world, though Gas Town and then turn and go all the way to Stanely Park with a stop at Waterfrotn as well.
Can't belive they got it built faster and more advanced contruction than our South LRT line in Edmonton. Our South LRT will "fully" open next spring. It is only partially open as I write this.
I was there later in the day. Not that they've got the "way out" signs backwards on the platform: The one above the stairs at the far end shouldn't have an escalator icon on it. :P
If they haven't fixed that yet, they've only got six days to do so.
