  • Not only does Peerce look elegant, but he also sings elegantly as is pretty unavoidable for Peerce

  • found this fabulous clip and i get to see jan sing on vof on tv/radio. great voice/orchestration. love this thrilling performance ROGHARM used hear vof sneaking it on my radio while my parents saw on tv. i was supposed to be alseep but i sneaked a radio to hear the great voice of firestone on the ABC RADIO NETWORK. of course rated highest11+ age 66. grew up with great network radio which i am happy to write is available on computer. thank you poster for TV CLIP I CAN SEE JAN SING!!!camera 3get

  • A great Victor Herbert song sung by the great Jan Peerce. Perhaps the best version of this song I've ever heard.

  • flawless!, every breath, every vowel, every nuance, rolling "r's", pace, "heartfelt, etc.! Bravo Maestro! My favorite version!

  • He was great thanks to his great technique. If you want to learn it, contact me.

  • Perfect! Thank you.

  • Jan Peerce-"Someday I'll Find You" (from Noel Coward's "Private Lives")-Vocal with orchestra, radio broadcast, 12" 78 rpm acteate on National-Hollywood: Have just unearthed in an L.A. thrift store the acetate by the immortal Jan Peerce, side 2 of the well-worn "Someday I'll Find You," which is introduced by a radio host, who adds the song is taken from "Private Lives." Needless to say, Jan Peerce is simply amazing on this selection, building it up to a stunning climax.

  • great peercing voice it sets my firestone brain to enjoy performance. another fortunate discovery i found by mistake. my good luck!!!!!******* love jan peerce and firestone. (joke) firestone made tires in vermont and their slogan was "don't tread on me." firestone no joke gave the usa great music with great singers and howard barlow conducting the firstone orchestra. I am telling you of my devotion to firestone. (theme song) ROGHARM

  • awesome! TY.

  • Can somebody write down the words of this song?

  • Jan Peerce at his best with a stunning climax. It is great to have the operatic greats of an earlier and better era on video. This man was really a GREAT SINGER and he remained so for many years after this early telecast.

  • Can you post Peerce singing "Younger than Springtime" ?

    Thanks.

  • Vinyl, Put you Melton on youtube cuz Melton was american and he sang "american" He was a showman and fine entertainer. I have heard many foreign tenors sing "Star Spangled Banner " with like Italian accent and they are great.

  • Bravo, e suggestivo. Quando il bel canto era tale!

  • Lanza also made a brilliant live recording os this lovely song! Peece´s technique was flawless!

  • perfect

  • He sounds like an old friend

  • Lovely singing. I have nbever heard this tune before- it's nice.

  • Utterly magnificent!

  • Wow! Richfull color voice in that time! Very nice!

  • Kullman had a lighter voice then Peerce in color of course but never attained the fame of Jan who was a great musician and a favorite of Toscanini in his time, another American tenor of less fame then Peerce/Tucker back then was Fred Jagel and we need to mention James Melton also.

  • I watched a James Melton movie on Turner Classic Movies recently. What a hoot! Apparently he was being groomed as a clone or replacement for Dick Powell at the Warner Bros. juvenile tenor. That didn't work out somehow, even though Melton had a better voice, looked better and was taller.

Melton was at the Met at the time regularly singing Tamino and Alfredo. In the movie he sings a cowboy song and Celeste Aida. I wish I could have posted it here on YouTube. A hoot!

  • I have a recording of Melton singing "Celeste Aida." It's not something I would post on YouTube!

  • not very good in other words?

  • Have you heard him? Just imagine him singing such a spinto aria!

  • Yeah I know it wouldn't suit him but I just didn't know if that's what you were driving at with your comment. I thought maybe you meant it was rare or something. :P

Certain lyric tenors have given perfectly acceptable or better renditions of the aria in studio but Melton would have been abusing the privilege I suppose yes. =P

  • Yes pretty much and it is extremely rare.

  • @VinylToVideo It might be fun in a cruel way.

  • @pearlmuth3 I like frank munn, richard tauber, richard crooks, frank parker they great also. ROGHARM franklyn bauer, scrappy lambert, alan jones, lanza yelled too much, donald novis, james lewis all the singers i found great voices on youtube and baritone stuart foster from whom i have written letter and autographed glossy photos.

  • does anyone know how to conduct this? there's so much rubato.

  • Perhaps Jan at 46 yrs.(1950) here was already a somewhat dark lyric tenor in this song compared to his early 1930's popular song recordings but this live one on Firestone Show was done with taste. Also catch Tucker doing a terrific version from a 1949/50 recording

  • très belle chanson chanté par Jan Peerce

  • Charles Kullman made a fabulous recording of this many years ago, more tender and personal than Mr. Peerce's finely sung rendition. How wonderful to hear the unashamed use of portamenti in the string section, something Victor Herbert would have approved. We live in such a sterile age today!

  • I have this song by Mario Lanza, but Jan did a great job.
