This is definitely seisan but it's different from version I'm practicing, most of the moves are similar just different angles. I did take something from this that I believe will improve my own practice.
I know what he look's like and all but I'm kinda skeptical about that being him. I guess if he's the creator of the style and all he knows what he's doing, but it look's just a little funny to me maybe he is just a little aged though.
@miguelmstewieShimabuku is recognized by the the IOKA meaning he is verifiably authentic and not a phoney so stop your loser tirade already piece of shit.
my sensei's teacher trained under shimabuku himself, sensei johnson, when he when he was in the army or something, sensei marty visited him in Texas last month.
Umm....I guess the modern diet is causing IQs to drop drastically. It is pretty clear that in these videos Shimabuku is performing a follow-along video for students to be able to easily see what he is doing.

It is not the speed of the kata that is in question but the shaky upper body movement and the telegraphs of technique that is in question. It's as if he was a beginner or had no formal training, which would be consistent with history as none of the great masters claimed or recognized him as a student.

Shimabuku did'nt create Seisan kata and his version is a sad example of the original. His lack of upper body coordination is more than him feeling ill in this video.
I've learned this in a different way too but I'm training Isshin-Ryu in Denmark so there's always changes in katas when we learn them from our Sensei till we watch the original. I've been training for 9 years in Gensei-Ryu and I have to say that Isshin-Ryu is SO much better ! It's really useful stuff !
hi my name is sensi christopher moore isshin ryu was the first martial art i was blessed to learn and seening this renewed my way of thinking thanx so much for the vid no matter how the katas are done we r still brothers in isshin ryu
i dont know, i just watched another supposed isshinryu version of this kata and it was different too. why i dont know...they have video of shimabuku sensei doing them right here.
The man you're watching in this video was the creator of Isshinryu karate, so what he's demonstrating is the official, or at least the original, version of Seisan Kata.
This is the offical Version for Isshinryu Karate. Isshinryu is a mix of Gojin Ryu and Shoren Ryu. Maybe Angi Uezu(Who if i remeber, was one of his oringinal students) learned more of one style then the other or something to that effect.
Angi Uezu was not only his student, but his son-in-law. Shimabuku was happy to leave Isshin-Ryu in his hands, and the versions of the katas that Uezu wrote about (which only vary slightly from the one being performed here) were considered to be the proper ones. Keep in mind that Shimabuku was very old when this was filmed, and probably also wasn't concerned about how it might look 40 years later on video.
exactly the way I was taught the kata by Ed Johnson in 1968...Ed was there in 1959.......

first three punches are done that way on purpose......

Is it just me or do the first 3 punching movements seem strange? He looks like he is swaying/swinging into them.

Why does he step so heavy and telegraph his techniques. Must be unique to Isshinryu.

Come on, this can't be the real kata can it? Maybe he's only doing a preliminary movement thing.
