The first verse is in Blind Joe Reynolds 'Outside woman blues'. Verse borrowing was common among blues singers. Otherwise, they are different songs. Humble Pie's 'Four Day Creep' is a completely different song, and shares only one verse with Waters 'I want you to love me'. Why Pie credited it to Cox is a mystery.
Despite the caption on the film, this song should be titled ' 'fore Day Creep' , i.e. before day creep - creeping away from your lover's house before the sun came up.
appears that the original recording of this, in 1927, predates that of blind willie (or joe) reynolds, which was 1929 and called "outside woman blues". anybody know the real story?
The Humble Pie version is actually a completely different song both musically and lyrically. They just decided to credit Ida Cox and give it the same title. Not sure why really, great song though.
Yes... and playing some terrific piano too! [though Ida is certainly no slouch... she's not a theatrical belter but an honest singer, a real straight-shooter, solid-sender.]
Jesse Crump made some excellent piano solo recordings which should be put on Youtube sometime!

Lord Lord I'm getting up in years
Lordy Lordy Lordy I'm getting up in years
But mama ain't too old to shift her gears
And I'm a big fat mama, got the meat shakin' on my bones
I'm a big fat mama, got the meat shakin' on my bones
And every time I shake, some skinny gal loses her home

The Pie's lyrics are mostly from a Muddy Waters song, "I Want You To Love Me". Why didn't they credit Morganfield?

I should add that Jesse and Ida were married at one time, though I'm not sure they were still married when they made this movie short :P
He accompanies her on many of her recordings in the 1920's.
