Interesting video... I am fascinated with water. There is a great website about the medicinal uses effects of water and the importance of staying hydrated. Also the studies on how words can create different shapes within water when it is frozen, etc.
Is a really good video but i dont understand how did u make the water into a object form?especially the last test where u inject the tablet into the water how does it stay like that? Is it because the way you film it ? Or u added some sort of liquid to make it like it?
Yo dawg, I heard you like bubbles, so I put some water bubbles in your air bubbles in your water bubbles, so you can watch water bubbles in air bubbles in water bubbles.
Hey Is this JIM GAFFIGAN, "Bacon" anyways cool video, you should try it with common products to see whats the deadliest when mixed or put in a water bubble. or blood cells would be cool to see if they were alive.
Sure, imagine an elastic, the surface tension is basically an elastic between the polar molecules, they get further and closer together until they are finally at rest, the air resistance is minimal, but the pressure would help stop motion a lot more than you'd expect with no force of gravity.
This is an amazing example of how the gas giants were formed. If you could add solids it would demonstrate how the inner solar system planets were formed.
yes they did, it's on the International space station. it's mentioned at the start of the video. and it was made for the saturday morning science program during Dr. Donald Pettits nerly six month flight from november 2002 until may 2003.
I wonder what would happen if they did the wave experiment inside a vacuum in zero-g. It would keep going because of no energy transfer in a vacuum, right?
anyone who says this is a "secret facility"...you are retarded. its called 0 G's and nowhere on earth can you get that unless you go on the airbus 0g flight, which still isn't a perfect 0 g's. they are in space from one of the Columbia launches doing experiments on MANY things to study the effects in a 0 g environment.
I would definately not disagree with you on that point. The government are bastards. Hiding away all the secrets of the world in a measley lab somewhere secluded.
Impressive! How was this filmed? By yourself? In what? You an astronaut? In a diving plane? Or is this stock footage? I would love to see a candle burning in zero G! Better do a search!
I'm not a scientist, but if molecules are round, by nature, then it's this original shape that let's itself be known by the magnified sphere we see here.
no, it doesn't work that way, fladnag. The water forms a sphere because of a property called cohesion, an attraction between molecules to VERY weakly bind them together. This makes them all love each other, making a solid with the lowest possible surface are and highest volume, a sphere.
....You don't have to get it into circular form, in space, it's just circular because there is no force that pulls or pushes it, causing it to lose its circular shape. That's why all the planets are round.
And no, planets are round because they are compact enough to form gravities that actually impact things around them. The gravity of the sphere probably doesnt extend all the way out of the sphere. idk, im too lazy to do the math behind it.....
The actual composition of the chemical make-up of the water attracts it to itself, and the Surface tension can't be overcome with normal movement.. unless there was something to hold it. It's circular form comes from the attraction between water molecules, all trying to get to the center.
Amazing video. It's incredible how the man explains it.

what would that look like if you where using a super fluid (zero viscosity).

but 350km over earth in a stable orbit is enough zero gravity is enough for me :)
DooMMasteR 3 years ago 5
Correction! Zero gravity what you are referring to is actually zero gravity effect. True zero gravity needs little bit more work.
MeX2004 3 years ago
the frictipn between the water molecules would stop the waves (very slow indeed)
the system would heat up and had to be externaly cooled again
DooMMasteR 3 years ago
I wonder what would happen if they did the wave experiment inside a vacuum in zero-g. It would keep going because of no energy transfer in a vacuum, right?

i think the water would dissolve in a vacuum.
