Em agosto de 1955, aos 46 anos, de tanto trabalhar, sempre cantando em português e falando sobre o Brasil para tornar nosso país conhecido mundialmente.
nursenin, me too! But I think she did it by purpose. Probably her intention was to make the word "bandana" (which means a kind of headband) sound like "banana" (not exactly the fruit! Ha Ha). She used to do lots of these double-meaning jokes. It was very like her, and very like the 30s and 40s' artists, to play tricks on the Censorship. They HAD to be very intelligent, or they would get arrested!!!
The black and pink costume was inspired by Schiaparelli (as in "shocking pink"). I find it amazing that such a tiny woman was not overwhelmed by such a heavy gown, tall head piece, and platform shoes. She could carry anything and make it work for her.
Para que tanto estresse e falta de humor? A abertura dura só 5 segundos. Antes de cortar os pulsos, toma um calmante e curte o restante do vídeo, rapaz!
Usually you can't see her shoes as clearly as you can in this number. They are, as usual, astoundingly tall! And she dances around in 'em without falling down.
You can see her original performance of "What the Baiana Has", in a Brazilian film made before she came to the US, on YouTube also. I think it was her first appearance in her typical, famous outfit; I believe the lyrics describe what it consists of (necklaces, hat, etc.)
omg...every minute of all her videos, it gives me a tummy ache coz im afraid she might step on her skirt or something ...but she did it very well, amazing!
Equiparar Carmem Miranda a algum artista...só mesmo Michael Jackson....energia electrificante, expressividade, sensibilidade...corpos/instrumento... Sensacionais!!!
Hi. Only in the beginning of her U.S. career. Due to tight agenda Carmen couldn't afford the time anymore. Her outfits were mainly designed by Sascha Brastoff and Yvonne Wood. The one in this routine was by Yvonne. My favorite. No one knows about where it has ended up to.
Carmen Miranda's favorite hat, The Umbrellas Hat, was designed by MGM's Helen Rose. And Edith Head, the designer who won most Academy Awards ever, also produced costumes for Miranda (especifically in "Scard Stiff").
Thank you so much! Here in Germany - and I think in all continental Europe - Carmen Miranda is completely unknown! Hardly any of her films was imported and even if, she only was an extra, but never was mentioned. So I find it very hard, to talk to anyone about her and her magnificent, tragic life. Furthermore the movies are not available on DVD, so I for me it's like heaven to have here all dancing scenes, documentations and so on! Thanks, thanks, thanks!!!
Hi! I thank YouTube for making it possible for me to reach those who still don't know Carmen to have this chance to do so. I'm glad to know of your interest. Stay tuned for more. New videos on Carmen coming soon and check out her website for photos, music and so on. Merry Christmas.

Você disse quase tudo. Só faltou a você dizer "patriotismo". Carmen Miranda foi a maior embaixatriz que o Brasil, sem ainda saber, já teve. Abraços.

Could you tell me what happened to her famous shoes...?
Or all her costumes for that matter, is there an exhibition somewhere with her clothes etc.?
Just like Marlene Dietrich has in Berlin.
