  • Misty, I was wondering if you used a little bit shorter pipe the swipe with your arm wouldnt be so wide and might not get your arms so tired. What do you think?

    debbieo

  • @frugalmrsolson1 That might help, but I still have to make the dasher in the middle go from one side to the other all the way...It makes difference how it cleans..Thank you I will keep this in mind the next time I dash...

  • Wonderful video. Much better than washing in the river as my grandmother did in Europe! And to save electricity nowadays....(living in the country if possible)....why not? Thanks!

  • @vassariah2007 Thank you!!!, I have done it in the creek when my 1st daughter was a baby...Now she is 15.....

  • I still say the lady is part energizer bunny!

  • @MobyDave1583 Lol..thank you!!!

  • That's laundry the hard way. Thanks for the vid,

  • @mdr8088 It sure is...Thanks!!

  • That dash washer is neat . i love it !

  • @ardana777 Thank you...

  • Thanks for sharing! I really like that! I would use that to wash my husbands shop rags and my rugs.

  • @creekboysmom They are great for that , Thanks ...

  • why not make a hole at the botton that can be opened so they dont have to almost lift or turn that heavy thing? and let the water out! or a hose! it seems in this communities women do all the hard work! i dont like it

  • @eLoveCR7 Beacuse we just made it work, it leaks if you do not do it right....and in this community the wemon are not the only ones that do all the hard work, our men do just as much or more.....You just do not know...Thanks!

  • @mmlrc6atgmailcom oh well i hope so! what you do is though i know i used to wash clothes by hand piece by piece! yeah! not in a river ! but like it!

what i do is i let my clothes sit a day in water with detergent or and bleach if whites. for better results.

i would get me one like this heck i would bill it myself yeah a make things and build things! but the wringing its what kills me! so i rather pay! no other choice!

  • @eLoveCR7 Misty is always smiling when she is working She likes the work!

  • my wife loved your channel

but man i am freaked out new technology and old stuff yet you look

like you just walked out the past in all that gear

and you aint no hippy community

modern detergent in an old fashioned wash tub

why not soap from animals or herbs

    very confusing

    be cool

  • @000whiterabbit Thank you!!! Yes I use home made laundry soap now...I had to wean myself off Dawn...Thanks!

  • I just so admire you people.. you are a remarkable testament of the ingenuity of a people who still have what it takes to survive.. Thank You for your uplifting video's I am so glad I found you on youtube!

  • @snaps81625 Thank you!!!

  • My grandmother had an old washing machine with the rollers mounted above it to roll the water out. Very neat!

  • @ArtisanTony Yes, I use to have an Wringer Washer Machine...I use to have one of those too...They are a very good machine, they are in high demand in the community I live in....Everyone has 2 of them and one of these...And 2 rollers monted above them...One washing whites with bleach, and one washing colors, witht he dasher inbetween them rinising.....It is neat haw they have them set up...Thank you!!!!

  • just have to say, I stood around a cast iron washpot many a time in my day and heated the washwater for my mother. My legs stayed red from standing near to draw the water out. You learned fast to let the fire die down a little before taking out the hot water. Had my dresstail catch on fire a couple of time too when the wind was whipping the flame under the pot. Those days made me strong and what I am today. I'm looking for me a wood cook stove now.

  • @22justus2 What a wonderful memory....You are a very strong and respectful lady....Thank you....

  • @22justus2 I used to watch my grandmother wash in a Cast Iron pot.

Misty said her automatic washer has spoiled her. Grandpa thought that it spoiled grandma too.

I remember them getting into a fuss because grandma wanted a NEW, BETTER automatic washer.

Grandpa drug out the ole wash pot, and set it up in the front yard with a BIG SIGN on it that read "YOU'VE COME A LONG WAY BABY!" :-) Most people don't realize how spoiled we all are now.

  • To speed up the wash/rinse cycle, why not have the girls fill up a couple of the five gallon buckets with clean water and have them ready to pour in, instead of waiting for the hose to slowly fill the washer up? It would make the process a little more streamlined. Just an idea....

  • @22justus2 They do that, I had just not had it out in a while, now that I use it regulary.....Thanks

  • Aw! I would love to have one of those!!!

  • @kaytebobayte Thay come in handy...

  • I am amazed and impressed with your ingenuity! I would love to make one of these washers. Can you post the specs for it, or PM me with them? Much appreciated if you could, thanks.

  • @goldenscales Thank you!! Mountainman will work on it and I will PM you the best I can do...You are welcome...Misty

  • I switched over to using the mobile washer about 2 months ago. I love it and no longer use my washer. I have found that using the wringer from my mop bucket works really well. I also hang dry everything now. Except my towels. I did not like how my towels come out with hang dry. That gets our clothes really clean and I love the lowered electric bill.

  • @sunshinerinker Yes I agree about the towels, but I have no choice, mine are soft though. I used a ringer and a dasher washer for almost 12 years. I am happy to use a electric washer now. Bit I have my other washer handy if need be. Thank you for watching, you are doing great things...

  • doesn't the dumping of the soiled water on the ground kill the surrounding trees and vegetation? It does have detergent which is deadly to the trees.

    Richard of Danbury

  • @Richardofdanbury No it don't kill any trees at my house, it actuall makes the grass grow like crazy!!! And where my dain comes out for my reg. washing machine the grass is taller there than any other....My grandma always planted bushes at her drain area and man did they grow!!!!

    Misty

  • @Richardofdanbury I agree with misty. When I was a child, mum would have us pour the washing, bath, and dishwater around the trees and on the garden. The plants and trees really appreciated that during summer, and we had the best vege's in our neighborhood!

  • How did you prevent the seams of the washer from leaking water?

    Richard of Danbury

  • @Richardofdanbury Clear silicone. And after so long you have to redo it. If you look the up on Lehmans.com look for a James Washer...

  • awesome vid. I will have to make me one of these, what part of WV did you live in I use live in McDowell county

  • @TheOutdoorsmanJoe Thank you! I alos have anoth video I need to get up when I went over to the West ladies and show Yall their washer it is like mine except it is bough on line feom Lehmans they call it A James Washer. • @greatwf They are pretty strong......

  • My kids pitch a fit when I make them hang clothes on the line .. Could you imagine what they would do if I told them that was our new washer

  • I Lived with my grandparents in West Virginia and still here in WV every Saturday morning would help grandparents with the wash it was done with a wringer and homemade lye soap grated and two tubs one for soaking and the other for the rinsing i always like the job of putting the bluing in the rinse water...wonderful memories. always hung clothes out never had a dryer. What part of WV were you from? the nearest city is Morgantown WV.

  • @msdodgeomni Wow that is a wonderful story to here. I lived in Strange Creek, in Braxton co. It was and I am sure still beautiful there. I really miss it, I only got to live there 2 years, If I new then what I know now I would have never left, I was just young and not mature enough yet, Life teaches you valuable lessons. And great memories:-))Thanks for watching

  • @watchdog4life Thank you yes we are very spoiled. I have done it all the hard way for a long time, I do it the easy way now even thought if all new the truth they would not agree, I still heat our water w/ wood and have to make bath water in 5gal. buckets, but I have a electric washer.
