What a gem! This is Bowie's first picture sleeve i believe but was not a hit for the young musician. When "Ziggy" was a smash it was released in the UK which embarassed david, but it finally flew up the charts. Bowie's voice manipulated for the garden gnome.

Aaaactually... This piece of genius is from 1961 (Bowie's first attempt at a single). It didn't chart... for obvious reasons. It wasn't until 1969 when Bowie released Space Oddity when he gained recognition and began to chart.

Althouh written in the late 60s, Bowie had a hit with this in 1973. I loved it. Bowie says he's said he's now embarrassed with it - especially the Gnome pun - "You look like a Rolling Gnome" etc lol
