Haha, my maine coon, Connie, loves getting a bath, brushing, and any other type of grooming. When I bathe her she just goes limp in my hands like she is really relaxed.
odd My cat loves getting a bath, dosent claw or kick up a fuss actually will climb into the sink for it when i bring out the shampoo. But it hates being brushed.
Ooh I like it. Kiera wouldn't let me bath her like that, SHE has to be in control. You're so right about the brushing though, she is like the Tasmanian Devil when I attempt that fun past-time!
How funny. Pumpkin is reacting exactly how one would expect a cat to behave, God knows why some love it (and it makes their soft fur into a matted knot, so you're lucky!)
My Maine Coons (Herman and Lilly Munster) love water and every morning when I get up from bed and head to the bathroom, they charge after me and jump right into the tub (my que to turn on the water so they can play and have a drink). Herman has more of a fascination with water and Lilly likes to chase my hand shadow along the floor. The cutest, most affectionate cats I have ever known.
I had no idea the kitten I adopted was part Maine Coon... she's now almost a year old and will only drink out of the faucet! She also waits for us to put water in the kitchen sink so she can jump in and play with her rubber duck - yes, we got her one LOL!
the maine coon you have got is actually the color is blue! yes blue but other people think its grey/silver.. your cat has interesting markings... especially with the red..
FunStuffJax: Her name is Doye Moye and going on four years and still frisky like a kitten. I have to continually refill her water dish because she does her paw strokes in that too once she has lapped up enough water and her thirst is sated.
Your are SO right. If I filled that bath, and tried to wash her, she'd be like the Tasmanian Devil! When she plays with water it always has to be on her terms.
My cat must be a part Main Coon. She has the same face, tufted ears, freckled nose but doesn't have the long hair or bushy tail. However, she loves water and just doesn't sit on the edge of the bathtub. She always wades through the water while I'm taking a shower and she lets me wash her down from tip of the tail to the back of her neck with a hand held shower. She loves it and always comes back for more. To turn on the faucet in the sink is like saying, do your paw strokes in the water here.
Wow, there is NO WAY Kiera would let me do that to her. Yr cat (you didn't mention her name), must be so laid back ... and what a GORGEOUS nature! I have only attempted to wash Kiera a few times in 6 " of bath-water and I wish I'd done so in a swimming costume, cos I've ended up absolutely soaked. She only likes playing with water on her terms, & only when the water is making bubbles or swirling around the plug-hole. If it doesn't make a noise or an interesting pattern, she's not interested!
@pmoyer50 Is she a Turkish Van, by any chance? They're classed as long-haired cats, but their furs isn't quite as intense as other long-haired breeds. In their homeland they can be seen swimming in the waters of Lake Van and are sometimes known as 'swimming cats'!
@Inkyminkyzizwoz:She may have been a Turkish Van - I don't know. I no longer have my cat and miss her very much. Because of a change in where I was living, I was given the choice of getting her declawed or finding another home for her. I couldn't do that to my Doye and went through an agency that always finds good adoptive or foster families for cats. She was the cleanest cat on earth, too. Doye was my little buddy and followed me around like a puppy. I never knew such an affectionate cat.

wow she has the most unusual markings, we bought a maine coon 2 weeks ago. so far she doesnt really like bathing. but loves playing in the water.. suppose its like children and bath time. how old is she?
She will be 3 in August. No you're right, Kiera doesn't actually like bathing, she likes the feel and the noise of the water. She only likes it when she's in control, and she's playing. If I put her in a bath full of water (which I've had to do in the past when she's not been well stomach-wise!), she's behave like a bag full of wasps, and I'd have very little skin left on my arms!
How funny ...lol! Trust me, you'd soon return her when you were covered first thing in the morning, with leaves, small insects, spikey plants and anything else her tail had accumulated in her nightly travels. She is gorgeous though. Stroking her fur is very therapeutic.
Soo adorable :) I think your maine coon is part Bengal too if you haven't noticed yet. we had a stray have 7 half bengals kittens in our back yard. i didn't find out that they were until we gave them out for free. i did a lot of research on them. one of the ones were keeping looks maine coon with the marble bengal look to him like your cat. he is very affectionate :)
How fascinating. I had a look at the Bengals, and they certainly have similarities, especially the markings. I have her pedigree chart, going back about 10 generations, and although they all specify Maine Coons as her predecessors, there's nothing to say that Bengals haven't played their part in that process.
Oh bless him/her! Kiera appears lazy during the day, but comes alive in the evening/night. She is ALWAYS up for a game though, even if she's asleep. It doesn't take much, she loves string or wool, or a shoe-lace, and I just run it in front of her. She's awake instantly, and smacks her paw on the top of it!
Ooh I know just what you mean, Kiera will run round the garden with me, chasing a stick if I throw it for her. They are a great combo of affection, fun, intelligence and companionship aren't they? The only drawback is the fact that their velcro-minesweeper tails pick up every twig, leaf, insect (and small rodent I expect!!), and I HATE spiders, so its a bit of a nightmare when Kiera comes in and tries to share my pillow in the morning!
I have a silver Maine Coon who's fascinated with water as well. He'll sometimes even jump into the tub as long as the water's only a few inches deep and he can keep his tail dry. I've had a few cats and I have to say that the Maine Coon has been my absolute favorite - they're extremely affectionate and even a bit dog-like (which is a big plus for me), but at the same time not clingy. <3
when my cat was a kitten he would put his paws in the bowl to play with the pictures at the bottom for like 10 minutes and he would lay in the bath tub while its still wet and the faucet's dripping
That is SO cute, obviously a natural fisherman!! Is your cat long-haired? When Kiera lies in the bath, it looks like a grey-haired, Chewbacca has been for a wash!
It's funny how large she can look. She's definitely very long, .... and her HUGE tail adds to her apparent vastness, but when she curls up, she can look the size of a kitten. Width-wise, much of it is fluff! She is really not bothered with food (too busy being nosey elsewhere) and the vet now has her on high protein diet to get her to fill out.
It's wonderful how child-like they are isn't it? I guess their feline natures have to be as such, because they sometimes spend hours stalking their prey. I think I could learn a lot from their patience and single-focus ability!!!!
Nature's fascinating isn't it, I'm still amazed that since her Dad was a soft creamy ginger, and her Mum a fairly dark tabby, that Kiera and all her siblings were predominantly silver. There was one little sister who had a soft ginger shimmer to her silver streaks, and the overall effect of her colouring was amazing.
Wow, a jacuzzi would be Kiera's dream present, she'd be occupied for hours. Sometimes I pour the water into her water bowl from a height so that it forms bubbles, and she tries to pop them with her paw. Not sure I'd like to have to deal with the aftermath mind you, if she fell into a jacuzzi, she's like a possessed tiger if I try to dry her.
he doesn't try to get close to the jets, he just sits on the edge. As for being like a possed tiger, that cat behaved that way when we tried to give him a bath, the poor guy had to spend 6 months in a rabbit hutch because his owner was living with friends and he got depressed
My Coon Olly does the same thing... they have a facination with water that most other cats just dont have.... the number of times ive come down to see the full water bowl just flicked all over the floor... they love the stuff lol
my ex boyfriend and I had an apartment that looked over the complex's pool, whenever I was in the pool, he would put his front paws on the window and look out and meow
Lovely isn't it ..... not! We moved in nearly 2 years ago and we STILL haven't got round to refurbishing it. When it's done, I'll do another vid for you, and you can be dazzled by its style!
I had never heard of a chartreux, so I googled it. Wow, what a stunning looking cat. At first I thought it was very like a British Blue, but the colour of the coat is probably the only similarity. He's gorgeous, and I bet if he falls into your tub, it doesn't take you hours to dry him off!
drop dead gorgeous cat!!! my Mila won't even get in a dry tub let alone put her face under the faucetwith the water on! Mila will lick when I squirt her with my spray bottle though LOL :-)
Is Mila a Maine Coon? I must admit, I've never come across a cat, before Kiera, that would go near water. When her breeder told me that Maine Coons love water, I thought "yeah right". Mind you having said that, she has to be in control of it, I've tried squirting water at her like you do with Mila, and she was mighty cross with me!
Mila is a small cat, about 6 to 7 pounds, she's a short hair I think domestic but for sure she is a tuxedo cat. her pic is on my profi9le page, and of course lots of videos of her in her own playlist LOL! :-)
I agree with you totally! They need so much love, and give so much back don't they. I think those who hate cats haven't had enough to do with the right ones!
Oh I'd love another baby one, they are SO cute aren't they? I was told that MCs take 4 years to fully mature, and she's definitely filled out on the last 6 months (she's two and a half), so who knows if she'll grow any bigger. When she curls up, she can be the size of a small cushion, when she stretches out, she's like a long furry ferret!
Their love of water is fascinating isn't it. My previous cat, a Norweigan Forest, absolutely hated it, I think he only drank from his water bowl when he overheated from the thickness of his fur!
Every Maine Coon I've encountered was a total character, they're my favourite. I have 2 cats, neither MCs, but my long haired has the softest fur I've EVER touched, and I work at a vet hospital :)
So sorry for the delay in replying. Are your cats a specific breed or a combo? My previous cats were from the Cat Protection League and they turned out to be Norweigan Forest. They too had really soft fur and I became addicted. I don't know why, but I find it so relaxing to touch, it's such a stress buster...plus the fact they love you unconditionally (unless you go on holiday and leave them with someone else, obviously!)
dude i have 4 cats, we found them in our garden. Fireball,Panther,Nala, and Halloween. Nala is about 2 months, while Panther,Fireball, and Halloween are about 3-4 years
yeah the 3 were in our front yard and nala was in garage (if we didnt save her she wouldof died) Well i would consider them house cats cuz we got them neutered (except nala becuz we aint got the cash atm, shes doing fine without it) and they all live in our house ;) Thanks!
Don't despair ... at least you won't have the grooming nightmare. Kiera's fur is so soft, that when she has a water chasing frenzy and the fur gets really wet, if it dries before she or I have had a chance to comb it out, it knots and sticks to her skin like glue. Sometimes she has to have it removed with a grooming razor (which is not her favourite past-time!).
Oh man, my parent's siberian cat has the same thing. Damn, she hates the grooming razor and scissors.. growls and roars like a bonsai tiger when she sees them.
I got mine, I got mine . . . can you believe it . . . local animal shelter actually had a Maine Coon??? I like to broke my neck getting over there to pick him up. He's about 2.5 years old, way cool. I hear since he's fixed he'll get bigger (yeay). They said he was 13 lbs. when surrendered this summer. They were feeding him Science Diet, but I think I want to slowly change him over to Blue Buffalo or Drs. Foster and Smith food.
God, that's a great bonus finding him there .... except he must have been through an ordeal to end up in an animal shelter. You and he must be very spesh persons. Kiera weighs in at 12lbs, and she's been given the ok with the vet, so dont' worry. I was told that Maine Coons don't stop growing until their 4th birthday, but who knows. Kiera's not grown much since her 1st birthday. Does anybody out there have any further eviidence? Have a great time with your little man, put him on You Tube!!!
I so agree with you, and thank you for taking time to comment. Considering her Dad was a beautiful light ginger and her Mum a tabby, it's amazing that she has so much silver. Because she's so obsessed with water though, her coat certainly needs a fair amount of grooming, to keep it from matting. Worth it though!
Well, I can only talk from experience (see the comment from peggsterette below about hers hating water), and talking to others. My previous cats (inc. Norweigan Forrest) absolutely hated it, and only went near their water bowls because they had to. Kiera, on the other hand is fascinated by it, and seems to try to work out why she can't control it, or catch it in her paw. I don't really know why she' not threatened by it, but I'm grateful because it makes me laugh and keeps her out of trub.
Oh bless him. When I fill Kiera's water bowl, I have to fill a plastic bottle first and pour the water in from a height so that she can chase the bubbles bouncing round the bowl.
aww! my main coon does the same thing but when hes thirsty, he never drinks out of a bowl. he makes us turn on the faucet and he sticks his head under and drinks. haha maine coons really do love water!
Oh bless him. When I fill Kiera's water bowl, I have to fill a plastic bottle first and pour the water in from a height so that she can chase the bubbles bouncing round the bowl.
Ooh I agree. Thankfully she's more interested in running round the garden at the moment (she appears to have a boyfriend now), although I don't think the frogs like her trying to play with them.
I have a female Maine Coon too. She also loves water, but I agree that it has to be on her own terms. I tried to bathe her once, coz she got dirty and that was WAR! But if I keep the water running in the sink, she loves to splash around and make the whole bathroom wet. I don't care though, I just love looking at her having fun :-) She also prefers to drink from running water, sometimes directly from the water, other times by dipping her paws and drinking from them.
That's so funny ... WAR! I know just what you mean though, I had to bathe Kiera early this year when she'd been ill (won't go into too much detail cos not good on an empty stomach). By the end of the session, the entire bathroom and I were soaked through (heaven knows what the neighbours thought with the toilet paper hanging out to dry!!)). Their fascination with water is really endearing isn't it ...... although a little messy sometimes. All in a day's work as a cat owner.
i am definitely not a pet person. but i think maybe later on, if i did get a pet, it could only be a maine coon. yours is lovely and looks so dignified, even when playing!
What a lovely comment. I must admit, they are an extremely loving breed, especially towards humans, and the most talkative cat I've even owned. I know that cats are notoriously aloof, but Kiera lives for human affection, and her fur is so soft, it has a real calming affect on my stress levels when we have a cuddle (not that I'm too neurotic you understand!!!)
It's great isn't it. Kiera's breeder told me that Maine Coons love water but I just assumed she'd paddle occasionally, not be totally fascinated and ignore everything around her. Her new game is now to hang round our little pond and frighten frogs by batting them on the head ....... this is not good, where will this water fettish end???
She certainly doesn't appear afraid of water (I had a Norweigan Forest before and he'd freak at the slightest wiff of water), but I think it has to be on her terms. If she's splashed when I'm washing up, she runs off in shock, but then she's quite happy to sit in the sink with water running, or stick her paw down the toilet (euw!), or run about in the rain. Guess she's a modern woman who knows her own mind!
Her dad was a beautiful strawberry blonde (with the biggest paws I've ever seen), so I guess that's where her little ginger patches come from. Stupidly I was a little disappointed when I first had her cos I wanted pure silver, but as she's grown, the sun catches the red, and I love it. Thanks for taking time out to comment.
my maine coon is the exact same way!! ive had him even jump in my shower with me before which is so funny...but than i have to focus on drying him up instead of myself when it occurs hahaha
Haha, my maine coon, Connie, loves getting a bath, brushing, and any other type of grooming. When I bathe her she just goes limp in my hands like she is really relaxed.

I reckon their feet turn into flippers when we're not looking! Praps Maine Coons are half feline, half fish...lol!

my ex boyfriend and I had an apartment that looked over the complex's pool, whenever I was in the pool, he would put his front paws on the window and look out and meow

I think it must be the way water catches the light and sparkles that catches their eyes. Thanks for taking the time to comment.

Lovely isn't it ..... not! We moved in nearly 2 years ago and we STILL haven't got round to refurbishing it. When it's done, I'll do another vid for you, and you can be dazzled by its style!

My chartreux loves that, too, when I take a bath, he comes to sit on the bathtub's bord.
HebiYaro 2 years ago
I had never heard of a chartreux, so I googled it. Wow, what a stunning looking cat. At first I thought it was very like a British Blue, but the colour of the coat is probably the only similarity. He's gorgeous, and I bet if he falls into your tub, it doesn't take you hours to dry him off!
FunStuffJax 2 years ago
drop dead gorgeous cat!!! my Mila won't even get in a dry tub let alone put her face under the faucetwith the water on! Mila will lick when I squirt her with my spray bottle though LOL :-)
StrainSop 2 years ago
Is Mila a Maine Coon? I must admit, I've never come across a cat, before Kiera, that would go near water. When her breeder told me that Maine Coons love water, I thought "yeah right". Mind you having said that, she has to be in control of it, I've tried squirting water at her like you do with Mila, and she was mighty cross with me!
FunStuffJax 2 years ago
Mila is a small cat, about 6 to 7 pounds, she's a short hair I think domestic but for sure she is a tuxedo cat. her pic is on my profi9le page, and of course lots of videos of her in her own playlist LOL! :-)

Beautiful cat!

Thank you for that lovely comment. She has the softest fur I've ever felt, it's so relaxing to touch.

How can people hate cats. I think people just have met the one stereotypical black cat that was really unfriendly. Get a maine coon
Suses 2 years ago
I agree with you totally! They need so much love, and give so much back don't they. I think those who hate cats haven't had enough to do with the right ones!
FunStuffJax 2 years ago
Wow she's beautiful
and she's really really tall...
I just got a baby maine coon, and she's so tiny compared to your beauty here :)
NicBean85 2 years ago
Oh I'd love another baby one, they are SO cute aren't they? I was told that MCs take 4 years to fully mature, and she's definitely filled out on the last 6 months (she's two and a half), so who knows if she'll grow any bigger. When she curls up, she can be the size of a small cushion, when she stretches out, she's like a long furry ferret!
FunStuffJax 2 years ago
lol my maine coon kitty does that in the sink
Eternal42o 2 years ago
Their love of water is fascinating isn't it. My previous cat, a Norweigan Forest, absolutely hated it, I think he only drank from his water bowl when he overheated from the thickness of his fur!
FunStuffJax 2 years ago
Every Maine Coon I've encountered was a total character, they're my favourite. I have 2 cats, neither MCs, but my long haired has the softest fur I've EVER touched, and I work at a vet hospital :)
ArgoUseful 2 years ago
So sorry for the delay in replying. Are your cats a specific breed or a combo? My previous cats were from the Cat Protection League and they turned out to be Norweigan Forest. They too had really soft fur and I became addicted. I don't know why, but I find it so relaxing to touch, it's such a stress buster...plus the fact they love you unconditionally (unless you go on holiday and leave them with someone else, obviously!)

I <3 Maine Coons (I have 2 blue silver tabbies) and this one's coat is GORGEOUS! What color is it officially???
Kirstin1988 2 years ago
Hi there. Three??? OMG, you are so lucky. Lots of grooming going on in your house then. Her official colouring is "Silver Tortie Tabby".
FunStuffJax 2 years ago
dude i have 4 cats, we found them in our garden. Fireball,Panther,Nala, and Halloween. Nala is about 2 months, while Panther,Fireball, and Halloween are about 3-4 years
weavile102 2 years ago
You found them? Are they wild? Love the names you've given them!
FunStuffJax 2 years ago
yeah the 3 were in our front yard and nala was in garage (if we didnt save her she wouldof died) Well i would consider them house cats cuz we got them neutered (except nala becuz we aint got the cash atm, shes doing fine without it) and they all live in our house ;) Thanks!
weavile102 2 years ago
My two Maine Coons hate water. :-(
skepticat1 2 years ago
Don't despair ... at least you won't have the grooming nightmare. Kiera's fur is so soft, that when she has a water chasing frenzy and the fur gets really wet, if it dries before she or I have had a chance to comb it out, it knots and sticks to her skin like glue. Sometimes she has to have it removed with a grooming razor (which is not her favourite past-time!).
FunStuffJax 2 years ago

I named him Myoshima (but call him Myosh).
lovinlocks 2 years ago
God, that's a great bonus finding him there .... except he must have been through an ordeal to end up in an animal shelter. You and he must be very spesh persons. Kiera weighs in at 12lbs, and she's been given the ok with the vet, so dont' worry. I was told that Maine Coons don't stop growing until their 4th birthday, but who knows. Kiera's not grown much since her 1st birthday. Does anybody out there have any further eviidence? Have a great time with your little man, put him on You Tube!!!

my mainecoon like water too, it's amazing :-))))))
stephaniefeldes 2 years ago
I love this MC's coat. Soo pretty.
lovinlocks 2 years ago
I so agree with you, and thank you for taking time to comment. Considering her Dad was a beautiful light ginger and her Mum a tabby, it's amazing that she has so much silver. Because she's so obsessed with water though, her coat certainly needs a fair amount of grooming, to keep it from matting. Worth it though!
FunStuffJax 2 years ago
omg shes so cute xD

Thank you for that lovely comment. Do you have a Maine Coon? Their fur feels like silk, it's so soft.

I've seen quite a few videos with Maine coons playing with water. Is this breed particularly fond of water or is it simply a coincidence? :P
AsparagusBoB 2 years ago
Well, I can only talk from experience (see the comment from peggsterette below about hers hating water), and talking to others. My previous cats (inc. Norweigan Forrest) absolutely hated it, and only went near their water bowls because they had to. Kiera, on the other hand is fascinated by it, and seems to try to work out why she can't control it, or catch it in her paw. I don't really know why she' not threatened by it, but I'm grateful because it makes me laugh and keeps her out of trub.
FunStuffJax 2 years ago
they are especially fond

Same here. I've tried to use one of those recycling pet fountains, but mine only drinks from the tap.XD Drives my family crazy.

My Maine Coon hates water lol
peggsterette 2 years ago
Really? Well that just proves we shouldn't generalise!
FunStuffJax 2 years ago
Yea, but it's probably because he wasn't around water a lot when he was growing up
peggsterette 2 years ago
Lovely! & I'm nor paying the water bill...
MarydoBruno 2 years ago
Oh bless him. When I fill Kiera's water bowl, I have to fill a plastic bottle first and pour the water in from a height so that she can chase the bubbles bouncing round the bowl.
FunStuffJax 2 years ago
Ayeee... Long live the Maine Coon & all the kitties in the world !!!
MarydoBruno 2 years ago
aww! my main coon does the same thing but when hes thirsty, he never drinks out of a bowl. he makes us turn on the faucet and he sticks his head under and drinks. haha maine coons really do love water!

Ooh I agree. Thankfully she's more interested in running round the garden at the moment (she appears to have a boyfriend now), although I don't think the frogs like her trying to play with them.
FunStuffJax 2 years ago
aww. my cat has a girlfriend too hahahahhaha
xfigurexsk8rx4evax 2 years ago
I have a female Maine Coon too. She also loves water, but I agree that it has to be on her own terms. I tried to bathe her once, coz she got dirty and that was WAR! But if I keep the water running in the sink, she loves to splash around and make the whole bathroom wet. I don't care though, I just love looking at her having fun :-) She also prefers to drink from running water, sometimes directly from the water, other times by dipping her paws and drinking from them.
ellenkatrine 2 years ago
That's so funny ... WAR! I know just what you mean though, I had to bathe Kiera early this year when she'd been ill (won't go into too much detail cos not good on an empty stomach). By the end of the session, the entire bathroom and I were soaked through (heaven knows what the neighbours thought with the toilet paper hanging out to dry!!)). Their fascination with water is really endearing isn't it ...... although a little messy sometimes. All in a day's work as a cat owner.
FunStuffJax 2 years ago
i am definitely not a pet person. but i think maybe later on, if i did get a pet, it could only be a maine coon. yours is lovely and looks so dignified, even when playing!
elevatorgrl 2 years ago
What a lovely comment. I must admit, they are an extremely loving breed, especially towards humans, and the most talkative cat I've even owned. I know that cats are notoriously aloof, but Kiera lives for human affection, and her fur is so soft, it has a real calming affect on my stress levels when we have a cuddle (not that I'm too neurotic you understand!!!)
FunStuffJax 2 years ago
My maine coon, flash, LOVES getting wet. He even jumps in the shower too. Stands on the toliet lid just watch it flush!
pictureperfectbratty 2 years ago
It's great isn't it. Kiera's breeder told me that Maine Coons love water but I just assumed she'd paddle occasionally, not be totally fascinated and ignore everything around her. Her new game is now to hang round our little pond and frighten frogs by batting them on the head ....... this is not good, where will this water fettish end???
FunStuffJax 2 years ago
i hear maine coons love getting wet
hateterrorists 2 years ago
She certainly doesn't appear afraid of water (I had a Norweigan Forest before and he'd freak at the slightest wiff of water), but I think it has to be on her terms. If she's splashed when I'm washing up, she runs off in shock, but then she's quite happy to sit in the sink with water running, or stick her paw down the toilet (euw!), or run about in the rain. Guess she's a modern woman who knows her own mind!
FunStuffJax 2 years ago
I lurve your cat's patterns!
Araga686 2 years ago
Her dad was a beautiful strawberry blonde (with the biggest paws I've ever seen), so I guess that's where her little ginger patches come from. Stupidly I was a little disappointed when I first had her cos I wanted pure silver, but as she's grown, the sun catches the red, and I love it. Thanks for taking time out to comment.
FunStuffJax 2 years ago
She has rythm too! watch it at 0.54 she's right in tune with Liberty X.

Maybe I should think about entering her for Britain's Got Talent ... although with her HUGE claws, maybe it should be ..... Britain's Got Talons!

my maine coon is the exact same way!! ive had him even jump in my shower with me before which is so funny...but than i have to focus on drying him up instead of myself when it occurs hahaha
