He didn't play the political games. He was in the 3rd. Infantry division. Read about them in WWII. The Nazi's called then the 'Blue and White Devils'. Wehn you seen the 3rd division you'll understand why. The 3rd took no quarter and gave no quarter. The most decorated division in WWII. 4 ampib landings. my father did all 4.

All of the battles you list, with the exception of the naval battles, are pretty tiny compared to kursk or stalingrad. None of those battles involved a million and half men per side like stalingrad did. Most of those battles only involved a 10-30 thousand men per side.
Even Iowa Jima, which is the largest land battle you list didn't even feature 100,000 men per side. The largest land engagement the western allies took part in was the Battle of the Bulge, and it wasn't all that big.
I think The UK and USSR could have defeated Germany alone because even before the US entered North Africa to fight the germans for the first time, the war had already turned In The UK and USSR's favor at Stalingrad and El Alamein
If you watch all of the episodes, you would think the Sherman tank was invinceable. The Sherman's made mince meat out of the Panther and Sturmgeschutz's. Even a mighty Jagdtiger couldn't knock out a Sherman with it's 128mm gun. Check out the Battle of the Bulge episode to see. I don't think this is very realistic.
@spockistheman I totally agree, when we fought the German Panzers it was 1 Panzer vs. 10 Shermans and the Panzer could only knock out a few before they got so close that a shell from the Sherman would penetrate the Panzer's armor. The Pershing however was an even match. The Warsaw Pact used the same philosophy in its tactical planning against NATO. 10 T-55's/T-62's/T-72's/T-80's vs. 1 Leopard/Challenger/Abrams/AMX. NATO said okay a 500 lb bomb and 155mm shells will even out those odds.

i can totally agree with that, too much emphasis on special effects. however i have found with the 360 series (like battle 360 in the pacific) that they actually end up being more accurate and detailed than they appear to be at first
If it wasn't the German force fighting another front with Soviet Union which drawn 80 percents its troops and material,the great German force would grind those allied troops into hamburger. US force and its allies are not a good fighting force without superior tactical strategic advantage on their side. Iraq and Afgan War well demonstrate American's incompetence and poor command.

So far, the U.S. has been doing a fairly good job in Iraq with the Surge. Afghanistan will probably be another lesson to learn, but the U.S. will prevail.

@fgah First the U.S. military is not designed to be an occupation force. They are designed to go toe to toe with any CONVENTIONAL army and win. The American military is by far more competent that any army in the East (not saying much) and the most powerful army in the in the Western hemisphere. The US military with all of its "incompetents" smashed through the 4th largest army in the World in 4 days, not weeks but DAYS suffering only 113 battle related deaths and inflicting 20,000 - 26,000.

The battle of the bulge was the largest offensive of the entire western front, and it was utterly dwarfed by massive battles like Stalingrad, Kursk, and the Vistula. Germany and it's allies sent some 6 million men into russia.
They only had about 1 million defending their entire western front.
Keep in mind that before D-day, Russia had already turned the tide, and would have won without our help

First of all, no they were'nt... They were strong, 1st of all, because before WW1, U.S. wanted to open trade "american influence" in Japan/Eastern Asia... So, they got ships and traded with us. WW2 come around, Germany traded/sent majority of its planes and war-time items to Japan, for example, German Stukka = Japanese Judy Dive Bomber... i read that is where japan got it's dive bombers from. only reason Japan was strong in the pacific, is because most other countries around it, did not have
the technology advancement as Japan = Germany had. China only had planes from WW1 , and if we (America, and Australia) weren't around to jump in, lord knows how much Japan could have done. Yes, I will admit, Japan did have the strongest Navy in the world (even over the U.S.) after the Battle of Midway, that changed the whole war, and Japan mainly was on Defense untill the Phillipines and small islands (they did not want to lose Guadalcanal).
also i might mention that the Judy Dive Bomber (aka Yokosuka D4Y) was produced by the Japanese...it was heavily influenced by the Heinkel He 118..the nazis only provided 2 of those

All of the battles you list, with the exception of the naval battles, are pretty tiny compared to kursk or stalingrad. None of those battles involved a million and half men per side like stalingrad did. Most of those battles only involved a 10-30 thousand men per side.
Even Iowa Jima, which is the largest land battle you list didn't even feature 100,000 men per side. The largest land engagement the western allies took part in was the Battle of the Bulge, and it wasn't all that big.

If you watch all of the episodes, you would think the Sherman tank was invinceable. The Sherman's made mince meat out of the Panther and Sturmgeschutz's. Even a mighty Jagdtiger couldn't knock out a Sherman with it's 128mm gun. Check out the Battle of the Bulge episode to see. I don't think this is very realistic.

@spockistheman I totally agree, when we fought the German Panzers it was 1 Panzer vs. 10 Shermans and the Panzer could only knock out a few before they got so close that a shell from the Sherman would penetrate the Panzer's armor. The Pershing however was an even match. The Warsaw Pact used the same philosophy in its tactical planning against NATO. 10 T-55's/T-62's/T-72's/T-80's vs. 1 Leopard/Challenger/Abrams/AMX. NATO said okay a 500 lb bomb and 155mm shells will even out those odds.

If it wasn't the German force fighting another front with Soviet Union which drawn 80 percents its troops and material,the great German force would grind those allied troops into hamburger. US force and its allies are not a good fighting force without superior tactical strategic advantage on their side. Iraq and Afgan War well demonstrate American's incompetence and poor command.

So far, the U.S. has been doing a fairly good job in Iraq with the Surge. Afghanistan will probably be another lesson to learn, but the U.S. will prevail.

@fgah First the U.S. military is not designed to be an occupation force. They are designed to go toe to toe with any CONVENTIONAL army and win. The American military is by far more competent that any army in the East (not saying much) and the most powerful army in the in the Western hemisphere. The US military with all of its "incompetents" smashed through the 4th largest army in the World in 4 days, not weeks but DAYS suffering only 113 battle related deaths and inflicting 20,000 - 26,000.

Actually the russians DID right an Italian army group who was defending the eastern flank of the germans, after the defeat at stalingrad.. the italians were crushed by the russians.

Make no mistake, the war in europe was princapally fought between germany and the soviet union. 7 out of every 8 german soldiers who died in the war, died fighting the soviets.
The force the western allies fought in france was just a little holding force, over 85% of germany's armed forces were facing east, not west or south.
Russia lost 8 million men in WW2, US lost only 300,000

What would have been Britain and Russia's fate without the men and supplies America brought into the war? And with Japan allied with Germany? IMO, Britain would have been crushed by 44' and Russia eventually around 47'/48'.

The battle of the bulge was the largest offensive of the entire western front, and it was utterly dwarfed by massive battles like Stalingrad, Kursk, and the Vistula. Germany and it's allies sent some 6 million men into russia.
They only had about 1 million defending their entire western front.
Keep in mind that before D-day, Russia had already turned the tide, and would have won without our help

@4everUSNavy Still doesn't mean the Western Allies did more fighting and dying against the Nazis. While American Lend-Lease materiel was invaluable to the Soviet war effort, their own factories were largely self-sufficient once they re-located east of the Urals.
The Soviet Union didn't win WWII for the Allies. But they did win the war.

What about the Italian Alpine troops who fought in Stalingrad? or the millions of foreign volunteers from Scandinavia? The Russians also fought against Ukranian and Romanian divisions. Their task was not easy yet they were pushing back the Germans before America entered the war.
I'm not saying America's role wasn't important. Just putting he facts out there.

The numbers involved in the wars on the eastern front were simply obscene, of the 70 million casualties of the war, 30 million were on the eastern front, it was the largest and bloodiest front of the war, and of HISTORY. The amount of axis casualties on the eastern front was greater than all other fronts for all other countries COMBINED. Without Russia the war could have dragged on for decades, yet thanks to cold war hostility nobody knows about their sacrifice. Australian btw.

I agree with Mark and Cheov, Rommel was a very good general, but Hitler was a very stubborn person, he always had to have his way, and that held all of his generals and military leaders back from thiere true potential, that is one of the main reason's Hitler lost. Another big reason, in my opinion, is that God had enough, and he wanted it to end. Why he let it happen, I don't think anyone will ever know. What I do know, is that he had a very, very good reason for it.

so the germans had no choice but to split armies among 3 fronts, thinning out their fortified positions some, throughout europe... while slowly losing air superiorty (the luftwaffe-germans) they could not hold on to some areas much longer... that is, with italy slowly falling, and with some of the battles with japan in the pacific coming up

its well known that the lack of adequate resources cost rommel the africa campaign, and he was always fighting against superior forces(quantity wise)..

all i am saying is, there was no need for the western allies to land in normandy in 44,if they wanted to help out the soviets they shudve done that a yr or 2 earlier..

yes lend & lease was a great help to beleagured russia, i wont deny that.....i believe most of russia's troop carriers were of western origin.....
all i am saying is RUSSIA PAID WITH BLOOD and THE WEST WITH MATERIAL.....

but i would say the jap army was just as powerful as the nazis....maybe even stronger
they faced EVERY nation...not to mention the ones that the nazis were facing (all of them mind you) and they took over the entire pacific...they also were the last to surrender...not to mention unlike the nazis they fought till the last man..and japanese prisoners were very very uncommon...if you had an island of 30,000 japs...probably 29,900 would die

First of all, no they were'nt... They were strong, 1st of all, because before WW1, U.S. wanted to open trade "american influence" in Japan/Eastern Asia... So, they got ships and traded with us. WW2 come around, Germany traded/sent majority of its planes and war-time items to Japan, for example, German Stukka = Japanese Judy Dive Bomber... i read that is where japan got it's dive bombers from. only reason Japan was strong in the pacific, is because most other countries around it, did not have

the technology advancement as Japan = Germany had. China only had planes from WW1 , and if we (America, and Australia) weren't around to jump in, lord knows how much Japan could have done. Yes, I will admit, Japan did have the strongest Navy in the world (even over the U.S.) after the Battle of Midway, that changed the whole war, and Japan mainly was on Defense untill the Phillipines and small islands (they did not want to lose Guadalcanal).
