  • Any larger variant in view, maybe with a heli-deck?

  • Pillage, then burn.

  • I thought the Captain did a good job of speaking English.

  • Scandinavian power and design.

  • 2Weeks Befor I saw one of this Ships befor Bergen (Norway) .. This ships are Awesome

  • The SES-system makes people more seasick, not less. the smallest waves fucks the boat up completly.

But it works well in fjords of course.

  • @Vegetablesaregood u are correct :P

i served 1 year on a norwegian minesweeper wich is SES, most got seasick when we crossed the atlantic :P

  • @Vegetablesaregood I personally like wavy sea when I'm at the sea. It gives a feeling of "riding" it, and I think how sick you get is a matter of personal preferance... but of course it seems most prefer quiet seas, at least those born (and kept) inlands :p

  • the united kingdom and scandanavia will always rule the waves... we always have and always will... peace be with you my scandanavian brothers...

  • The Visby and the Smyge is a new viking ship.

  • @Noahwig : Buhu, how childish. Do u have to proove to the world that Sweden dont have a small penis or something? Yeah, Visby class are awsome ships also.

  • hehe, Ja des rikere vi blir desto mere vi ruster ned. båten er var revlusjonerende og passer perfekt i norske fjorder.

gibbsrg - lol, waste of monney? the us have long time doing reserch to develop a small stealth boat like this for own use.

And your F-117 was so crappy an old 1963 mod. NEVA S-125 Pechora system shot i down. So much for american stealth

  • Hmm, I can see that no one has mentioned that the Norwegian navy itself in fact didn't actually want these ships at all, and that they are to expensive for the defence budget here in Norway. With over a billion NOK a piece we can't afford them and no more than the six that is already been built will ever see the light of day.

It was a political decision to build these to save Umoe Mandal shipyard from going bankrupt, and not a strategic one that gave birth to the Skjold class.

  • They are fine ships anyway, in the same cast with Visby and Hamina.

  • Iceland needs a couple of those :P

  • Really? And what are you gonna do with those?

Shoot whales and guard the coast from Norwegian fishermen? :p

  • No... We are going to guard the coast from BRITISH fishermen.. We'd rather welcome the norwegian fishermen than to drive them off. :)

We would also need a couple of those to patrol a larger/wider area in case of emergency's and fishing piracy.

  • Yeh, I guess youre right. Im sure the EU will try to suck out your waters aswell. Theyre experts at exploiting others resources.

  • you're damn right

  • WEll Iceland would'nt be there if it wasnt for Norway :D

  • makes sense

  • Yes it would. But the icelanders wouldnt :p

  • Dont Iceland need to get some money before the start buying things agian Btw ?

  • Great ship to destroy all of these fucken somalian pirates..

  • In a discussion forum about the Skjold Class its revealed that the boat has been traced by rader in 70+ knots..

  • Man, you gotta laugh when you hear them try to speak english ^^

And yes, I am Norwegian myself.

  • ye i know xD just so u know rest of the world: we don't suck that much in english xD

  • It looks as though it is time to go a Viking!! Really cool ship!

  • type in : Naval strike missile an d check out the ultimate attack weapon that the skjold class will carry

  • This is a great design, but bear in mind it is designed for coastal warfare. It's not designed for ocean/blue water fighting, and surface effect ships can't really take any kind of hit. One 40MM grenade near the air cushion and the whole effect collapses.

  • it's designed to work together with the nansen class

  • awesome, lets start raiding the British and french again!

  • that is a formiddal idea

  • @evilblades

Let's do so. But to do it right we have to invite french and british navies to join us. We raid.... ?

  • @Jyrki1964

well. there are no countries to be raided any more... or to be conquered for that matter.

  • @Jyrki1964 if you ask me, the spanish have been begging for an asswhopping the last 500 years ;D

  • Awesome!

Although Looks kinda like a model ship :P

    4/5

  • Det raskeste militær skipet i verden!

  • I rather have the old ships =P

  • Veldig rask og lyd skip!

  • Although, I think technology like this should be kept within the borders. Or atleast within Scandinavia. I don't trust the Russians, nor the US. Lower class technology can be sold. But the goodies and the best stuff shouldnt be revealed.

  • i couldnt agree whit you more.

  • the americans were interested in it, but when they said they wanted it built 4 times larger, the norwegians laughed and left the table :P

  • Really? haha xD americans. They always have to overdo it.

  • Sweden and Denmark are interested in this boat.. I dont understand why Sweden wants it because they have a stealth patrol boat, and they dont need that speed in the East sea. But it might have something to do with cost effectiveness..

  • Maybe. Or it could be that our government (the EU) want to send better patrol boats to guard the supply ships outside of Africa.

  • Yeah. The Visby will do it. But I think they wanted some kind of a patrol ship capable of trotting the rocky East.

  • @ygdrasil21 agree, we have the visby korvett, but then again. The visby costs more, atleast i think so

  • The reason America wants it bigger (and needs bigger ships in general) is because all of our potential enemies are on the other side of the ocean. Yours are right next door. And make no mistake about it, the country that gave you the f-117, f-22, f-35 and the sea shadow can certainly develope a skjold. But why waste time and money doing it if an ally has already done it. For years Europe complained of us never buying their stuff. Now you don't want to sell it. Go figure.

  • so you mean to cross the Atlantic or Pasific ocean in a patrolboat?

  • That is why we want it scaled up several fold. At that point it isn't just a patrol boat anymore. And if history is correct, the vikings crossed the Atlantic in a whole lot less boat than a skjold.

  • well the problem is that the skjold is designed for coastal areas norwegian fjords etc,and if you want a bigger version it means more weight. And more weight means less speed.

  • If we are looking at a corvette or frigate sized vessel, than obviously we are looking for 60kt speed. Range, seakeeping, firepower and endurance are what we want. High speed means nothing if it can't get to the fight and remain there long enough to do some good.

  • I meant to say obviously were AREN'T looking for 60kt speed.

  • haha totally agree Gunnar125

  • Fiint =) Norrmän är då hejare på skepp må jag säga.

  • dere er like pro som vi er på skip når det gjelder fly:D

  • New gerneration viking ship indeed=)

  • mmm

  • Vel man må sige at Norge bygger nogle Fantastike militærskipe:)
