@NorseRonin It is taken from a regional BBC TV program called Heart of the Country. The main focus of the piece was a profile of my band Dr. Didg, but it included this section about my trip to live with the Aborigines and the video footage I shot there. If you are interested in the band there is more of the program in another YouTube video titled "Dr. Didg Interview Pt. 1"
I wonder if I can make a Didj with a tough brach from a Peach tree, if the recommendations support for this kind of tree, I 'll inmediately chop down a nice tough brach from my tree and try to follow the step to make my own Didj.
@LizardKing691 My memory is that the trees still had leaves on them and were alive, which is possible since the sapwood under the bark would still be intact as the termites hollowed it out up the middle, at least at first.
@gwdidg thanks :) but it doesn't really need to be eaten by termites to be good right? and can u name the best type of wood to make didgeridoos, or i can just pick any type of wood?
i'd really apreciate if u answered this cuz i wanna make some :D
@LizardKing691 It needs to be a hard wood, ideally closed grained. I have made a good one from Cherry, and I have played decent ones made from Oak (even though Oak is not closed grained). The main thing is to get the shape right, with a gradual taper and not just a straight cylinder.
Awesome experience i bet

The tree needs to be dead in order for the didgeridoo to work?

i never knew that they used the old rotting wood
scringe897 3 years ago
They don't use old rotting wood. Live trees that have been hollowed by termites are selected and then shaved down for use.

Long live Dr. Didg.
I think I must have just about all of his albums.
Now then, if only Dr. Didg and J-M Jarre were to team up for a concert, hmmmmm.... I think I'd be in heaven !!!
