  • Hi first band was Modreno. He toured extensively with them and many bodies were torn apart when they broke up.

  • His music had a significant influence in my life- for the better. I learned to appreciate dissonance and various non-major keys. True genius, I hope I get to meet him someday.

  • From across THE POND...Got to hear/know John/Dennis through U-Vox. Without question, my favorite New Wave/Punk song is The Wild The Beautiful and The Damned..the Break my legs politely..lyrics from the song, has stayed with me for more than 30 years. Except us U-Vox and John fans, he is another underappreciated artists. I am so thankful I have had the chance to know his wonderful works, his immense talents and his lingering influences of others, even in suble, unknown ways by him.

  • Never forget that there would be nothing about this kind of music without Kraftwerk and David Bowie's Berlin Trilogy! We're talking about leaders and followers...

  • Wow! Never heard Dennis speak before! What a lovely chap! He is now on my list of people to meet! Metamatic was absolute genius, no-one has made an album, so cold, yet, so fresh! I have a very wide taste in music, but this album will ALWAYS be up there! 'The Garden' was superb too! His following albums were questionable. But I've ordered 'Metatronic', as I think a return to form, in my eyes (ears)! Like his art too! Pank.

  • I wish I could find that Wild, the Beautiful, and the Damned clip.

  • So ahead of his time,so misunderstood and reviled. When so called critics are so behind somebody like that they can only see his arse and failed to see more. Now they can kiss it if they finally got it.

  • the arts sounds like the arse to me,I just like this guy for his music and nothing else,

  • He inspired Francois Matte and other minimalist electronic artists

  • John mastered the minimal sound perfectly. John is being very modest here, he had a big influence on many synthpop bands.

    He's a lovely bloke too.

  • What a lovely guy, he was great in Ultravox and went on to do his own thing,

    total respect.

  • clear parenthood with david sylvian, indeed. even the dandyism. musical parenthood also with Gary Numan but Foxx goes further (as Sylvian does, but in a more mimimal way if possible!). Very nice guy, very sweet and certainly caring. Hats off!

oh I forgot Bill Nelson, maybe poppier but also brilliant (diary...)

  • Top man, first 3 solo singles were outstanding...

  • Nice man.... well he did live in Chorley

  • Lets get this bloke back Ultravox again purely as a one off and join em in their old songs during their next reunion ... kerching!!!! Sorted ... the bloke needs to be back in the public eye again ... Cheers ... see you next year then? Great. Sorted. Fine. Done.

  • got this single

  • When Mr John Foxx, Ultravox were great...but when he left, Ultravox became very very dull

  • Thank you for posting this!

  • the real King

  • Fantastic artist. I loved his voice.

  • Wish JF would contact me - pank100@yahoo.co.uk

  • could someone tell me if john (dennis) ever finished his 'Quiet Man' story, is it a book yet, can you buy it anywhere or does he just read it to live audiences and please John come to the island of Bute where I live.

  • Metamatic, a modern classic. Brings back so many memories. And as someone has said below, Slow Motion by Ultravox, one of the best songs ever...

  • Comment removed

  • I once sold John Foxx, or Dennis as we always called him, a pork pie, a packet of Elastoplast and a sponge cake.

  • why did they play LFO for the background music @ the 2minute mark? Foxx has a ton of work they could've pulled from and used.

  • john worked with LFO

  • Does he really say "Underpants!" and then big big dong???"

  • lol, both my friend and my mother who Ive showed this to thought 'Underpants' as well.

  • @hairycub69 ha ha, oh no..he says click click drone

  • Gary Numan and John Foxx => Great !

  • John made this video for LFO

  • I recently saw John at the Metro in Sydney.I have always been a fan and it was magnificent to see the great man live albeit 30 years late! Loved the gig he did all the old stuff as well as introducing us to his time concept photography A GREAT NIGHT

    cheers.

  • Metamatic is THE album that defines that period. The man is a genius. Great memories...18years old...I wore that album out.

  • no the album defines this period is "Telekon" by Gary Numan

  • Wow, this brings back memories. My big sis and I loved Ultravox whilst John headed it up.....Slow Motion's godda be one of the best tracks ever made. Brilliant to see he's still going strong - a true gent and a true artist.

  • Can anyone id what he's playing at 1:02 ?

  • underpants

  • John Fox and David Sylvian are 2 underrated artists !!!! what a shame !

  • David Sylvian!!!! Now theres a name! "Pulling punches"!!!!

  • Talking of Sylvian, his brother and Japan drummer Steve Jansen has been recently working with Foxx.

  • Wow! That could be an amazing collaboration. Can't wait to hear what they come up with.

  • @magus1805 WOW!! That sounds so cool...I am looking forward to hearing what they come up with :)

  • @FLORENT2222 Hell yeaah :) I agree with you completely...very underrated indeed

  • Lots of the Underpass video was shot on the westway in west london where i live, i remember seeing thee video on a sunday morning show, gosh that was long ago.

  • I agree. The mans a genius!

  • @musicforparties

Genius is a bit of a stretch, he's talented no doubt.

  • What a kind, humble&gentle man he comes across as-plus his soft Lancastrian accent-no alien/android posturing from this man...

  • An electro god! - but keep it under yer hat.

  • we have to do minimilism for GCSE, its nothing compared to this.

  • This man is a legend.

  • I want him SO BAD. He's still one of the sexiest men ever to exist and, to paraphrase a phrase a good friend of mine likes to use: John Foxx, why won't you love me?

Video: Five starred and favorited, of course.

  • amazing! couldn't agree more!

  • "I'm just an artist"...what an understatement.

  • Thanks for posting. I'm going to see John October 16th at Cargo.
