  • this is amazing! Did you copy some of those animations? like the candle from beauty and the beast?

  • @jadeinshades Yep. As mentioned in the video description, those were college assignments in order to help us to learn how the animators worked. I don't intend to show this reel in studios for a job. Thanks for liking it though. :)

  • @dapshere Forgot to read the description. But yeah, I definitely like your video. I like the way you showed the weight of the box the character was lifting, it came across well. I'm trying to teach myself frame by frame animation, and am having trouble finding good sources for instruction. Do you know of any tutorials or books that might help?

  • @jadeinshades 'The Animators Survival Kit' by Richard Williams. GO FOR THAT BOOK! :)

  • holy shit, this awesome !

  • Hello Dapshere,

  • nicely done

  • interesting reel

  • thanks! u got an interesting channel urself!

  • Thanks for the info man,and yea I agree that 3d is swallowing the classic 2d,but classics are classics,3d can never ever take over the grace and charm of 2d.I come to hate 3d cuz it seems more like labour than art, everything so complicated so lenthy and to confuse you like hell there are so manyyyyyyyyyyyyy things to choose from...while 2d involves only a pencil and a paper...Just lovely.

  • Cool works,I always wanted to become a 2d animator but by a mistake i plunged into 3d and i deeply regret that. Can you please tell me how much time and money does 2d animation costs?

  • hey there! there's nothing wrong in learning 3D first! dont regret, cuz after all, it IS animation that u're doing! ^_^

well these 2D animation courses werent that costly when i was in it. somewhere around Rs. 50000 did the job, and it wud last a year. but i'm not too sure abt the scenario now. i also wonder how many GOOD 2D institutes are around today, since everybody's SO keen on 3D. it's sadly a dying genre... :(

  • good going... all the best. I loved your approach of doing it in the traditional way. Taking no short-cuts. Preston Blair effect is very obvious but that is probably the best way to learn animation. Hope to see more and better works from you soon.

Just wanted to ask one thing if you don't mind... Are you from Assam? I want to see some Assamese animation.

  • hey thanks for liking my animation work! well yea i love the disney style of animation, although i'm now trying to break away from those cliched actions and do sumtin of my style! and yes i'm from assam indeed. as far as me coming up with an assamese animation is concerned, ofcourse i've been thinking about it. however it mite take a while. thanks for the thought though! cheers!

  • Wow those were good. I'm curious... When u draw animations by hand do u use tracing paper? Or any special paper? Or do u just draw on normal paper and try to make them similiar? Thanks in advance.

  • hey thanks 4 liking them (although i dont feel they're anything great! lol)

well we dont use tracing papers but normal ones, and place them on sumtin known as a lightbox which can be lit from below. when lit, we can see the drawings on each paper and thus can correctly draw a progressive pose on a new sheet placed over them, and hence animating a sequence!

i hope i'm not confusing u! why dont u instead search on "how to animate in traditional 2D" here on youtube? i'm sure u'll find ur answer!

  • tht is not original...

  • DO NOT copy other animator's work! Executives who review demoreels will definately know what is original work and what is copied/traced/rotoscoped ! Do orignial animation showing acting and body mechanics! Throughout this clip I could find only one pieces of original work.. the man picking up weight.

I hope this helps you. Al da best :)

  • hey thanks a lot for ur honest views! well as far as the copied work are concerned, some of them were part of assignments in my college (the candle & the jerry). i know that sucks... but that was to understand HOW the animators worked. unfortunately never got to try them out on MY characters!! the girl dancing was done in my free time (cuz my assignments at that time were the BORING ball bounce and stuff and i wanted to do more... and i BADLY wanted to animate a preston blair sequence!)

  • & the ostrich drawing i agree it was from the preston blair book, but the sequence was my own. and i never noticed the volume issues in the man with the weight thing. so thnx a lot for that. shall watch out for that! well all this was back then. i was heavily into copying stuff to learn it. now i've moved on and started wid my own thing. kinda lookin for originality. i've got 2 more clips in my youtube videos. the 2D short film's concept is original, but the gags are all taken from tom & jerry!

  • 1) Firstly your sketches at the start are really good! :)

    2) Dancing girl part is no doubt copied/traced from Preston Blair's book.

    3) Speed of the panning background doesnt match the speed of man's walk

    4) The Jerry walk too seems copied

    5) There are volume issues in the man walking with the weight in hand. The hands and legs enlarge with time.

    6) The candle part is traced off from Beauty and the beast.

    7) The ostritch is traced too from one of old disney films.

  • Hi dapOOn,

thanks for your comments! Yep, I have lately understoond the off-balance issues in my work and the timing while drawings was good.. but somehow messed with it in exposures.. misusing 2s ! Will always remember to not play around with exposures!

Checked your video.. Heres my small critique.. Dont mind the criticism.. Its to help you improve.

  • @cnlrules its really looks nice but it takes more then 2 years to see this animation, ho god! is this done by using keyframe of using motion tween....

  • cool stuff...i love ur 2dworks..awesome :)

  • yo man! thanks a lot!! but to me, they're kinda lame! not much exaggeration and stuff. the only exaggeration i tried was with the ostrich. anyway here's to doing even better stuff in the future!!!
