How Marshall make it to the Supreme Court was by his extraordinary jurisprudence; Thomas made it there by spreading his ass cheeks; I don't mentor myself to people based on race but by their principles. Cornel West--a tragedy for black America. And a hypocrite. I was at Harvard when he "eased right on in with a smile" to the distinguished "University Professor" position, the highest faculty post at Harvard. We all knew it was an affirmative action case, because apart from inflammatory politics, he was nil. A couple of years later, he was asked to leave. Among other transgressions, he was caught making a rap record while he was on medical leave-- supposedly too ill to teach his classes.

Thomas, 1) had an undistiguished record as a student. 2) left 13,000 age-discrimination cases dying for a lack of investigation in his 8 years at EEOC, 3) had a mediocre performance during his short 15 months as an appellate court judge.
