  • your skyline isn't assisted opening? did you buy it from big 5 or do you live in california

  • @Rubengt303 Its the flipper version.

  • In my opinion, blade steel is definetly more important than handle material

  • @rangodash agree but the handle can't fall apart on you

  • The ontario rat 1 is nylon 6 handle

  • Sanrenmu 710 11 bucks shipped.

  • On the kershaw those are not thumb studs there blade stops.

  • Guys, check out the Buck Vantage series. It's a great knife in this category. It might be a good replacement for that Kershaw Skyline, but everyone has their own preference and this is just a suggestion.

  • @Hawkgts word the vantages are pimpin....and strong.

  • @Hawkgts I've heard good things about the vantage. Not the highest quality out there but good materials for a low price.

  • There are too many great options in this field to pick just 5.

  • What's the second knife he reviewed ?

  • where can i get the tenacious for 30 $?

  • @zThanatos I think the price has gone up a little since I did this video 2 years ago, but you can go to amazon and get it for $31.5

  • @zThanatos its $50 Now

  • @Sraghtestline its $32 on ebay right now?

  • @jman432432 on smokey mountin knife works, blade ops, weponseducation their 40-50$ With Shipping

  • @Sraghtestline then id get it from ebay or amazon then :l

  • @zThanatos go for the RAT .. seriously ;o)

  • sorry i cant tell if you said e300 or e350 plz let me know. i have a leatherman e300 and i have put it through everything and has never disappointed me!

  • @Clonesniper225 he said e301

  • god that sucked not a reference in knives

  • The new Cara Cara is a much better blade. FFG without that stupid hump on the spine of the blade and the Tenacious clip. Really cool blade for around $20-30

  • great review, you helped me pick out some great knives i can research now.

  • I picked up a no-name brand knife from a flea market for $15. I was expecting this thing to be exactly like all the other cheap Chinese made knives, but it wasn't. It was far from it. This thing was razor sharp and holds an edge forever, and the aluminum scales, witha back spacer, are rock solid. Just for fun, I tried batoning several two-by-fours with it (and I beat the hell out of it), and the edge remained in perfect condition, with no dents or chips, and the simple liner lock remained solid.

  • @nelson149 looks like you found a good one.

  • i just need something to play mumbly peg with haha.

  • i love pocket knifes

  • they sell em cheap in uk there not worth a great value in the uk for a normal knife new would cost about 3 5 pounds for a used simple knife 1 2 pounds it depends how sharp

  • Good choices. I have all except the leatherman. The skyline clip and g-10 is veryy, very tight. It will eventually rip your pocket. On the upside, if you are very active you will not have to worry about the skyline falling out of your pocket.

  • the skyline is 55-60 its not under 30

  • @diancuk088 The skyline has been at Walmart for years, for $35.00. They are on sale for $30.00 (discontinued) right now at all 4 walmarts in my surrounding area.

  • Slowly and controlled, who the hell wants slowly and controlled

  • I would love to know where this under 30 is coming from for the skyline, even Walmart is selling this blade for 35.

  • @PitPensrock i bet you like gerBer kniver more

  • Comment removed

  • Nice collection

  • 0:32 to 0:37 thats what she said!

  • Can't you just loosen the bolts on the skyline clip?

  • I have the Tenacious and The Skyline both high quality blades that came razor sharp. Probably the two top knifes under $30 dollars, especially coming with G10 handles. I just picked up the Kabar DOZIER. I got the desert tan handle with a blacked out blade. Nice looking and stands out from all my black handled knives. Its a really simple design, yet cool, with a nice handle and a really sharp blade. And for the $17.99 I paid for it, i'd give it best knife under $20

  • @ScotsSens yep I agree with the dozier comment. I have one of those.

  • My buck knife doesnt work well with my magnesium fire starter, whats the deal?

  • That last knife is epic

  • skyline or dozier?

  • @risethrought328 skyline

  • TENACIOUS OR SKYLINE!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!? D; i cant decide please someone help any opinions would be nice

  • @silver2478 for every day carry skyline. For more heavy duty use go with the tenacious

  • the leatherman i have says it's 420hc and it can go from dull to wicked sharp with about 5 minutes of sharpening. aus8a is an exotic japanese steel even if the knife is made in taiwan(cold steel make knives of that steel in taiwan and sells them for $400 a piece) it is one of the better steels(depending on the heat treat). i like your vid keep up the good work.

  • What's your opinion on some of the cheap spring-assist knives from places online like Bud K and Extremely-Sharp? Specifically, the United Cutlery Rampage and Tac-Force Speedster Stiletto (both under $15 each). Been fairly happy with the Smith & Wesson ExtremeOps manual folders I've been carrying for awhile now, but I'm looking to upgrade to something a bit bigger with a spring assist as a defensive backup option when I can't carry a firearm (such as at work).

  • thumbs up if you noticed the clock at the bottom! :D

  • what store did buy those knifes

  • @MegaAwsomer1 miscellaneous stores. mainly off the internet, Kershaw at Wal-mart.

  • what walmart do you go to bud? where im from, your never gonna find knives there lol

  • @doggyw67 you arent looking in the right place, walmart has lots of weapons.

  • @snapcord i suddenly feel unsafe....

  • The RAT 1 is my favorite EDC knife under $30 too. The were discontinued for a while but they are back now and I found them again with new colors on knifecenterdotcom. They are about $31 now but definitely well worth the money. Thank you Ontario.

  • Spyderco tenacious has a 3 3/8 inch blade. I think he says 3

  • I have the part plain edge part serrated ontario Rat 1. They have nylon grips.

  • great video!

  • Also to add the KA-BAR, while a tad shorter in blade length ( but same width on the spine) than the RAT 1 and much thinner profile pocketwise, will still give the same functionality. I only mention this as the RAT looks/ feels much more beefy although it's all in the handle giving the impression of a larger knife. If you're EDCing this could be a point of contention to an LEO if he/she asked to see it. The KA-BAR probably wouldn't get a second glance if blade length isn't an issue in ur area.

  • what are the names of those psyderco knives ????

  • @loploplop616616 Spyderco is the brand. The "Tenacious" and the "Cara Cara" are the ones in the video.

  • nice knives

  • were can i get the ka bar dozier?

  • @TheUprisingNinja

Got mine from Amazon, I think you'll really like it as an EDC

  • gater all the way

  • kershaw makes great knives

  • @bladedweapons I agree

  • The spyderco tenacious has a 3 3/8 inch blade

  • where can i find the RAT 1 too. some one please tell me i want one really bad!

  • @newfoundlandhunter1 It's not produced any more, my best guess would be checking Amazon or ebay for new in box/used options, knife stores rarely have them in stock now

  • @evilsquirrel56231 chestnutridgeknifeshop

  • @newfoundlandhunter1 Try the website (chestnutridgeknifeshop)

  • @newfoundlandhunter1

I got my RAT 1 earlier this week from an Amazon marketplace vendor. It's a pretty sizeable folder but still pocketable. If you don't have any luck locating one, I'd say go with the KA-BAR Dozier folding hunter he also showed on here. I just got mine today in Blaze Orange and I love it! I think I can safely say I actually like it a tad better than the RAT 1. I'm going to be ordering another in Desert Tan soon. The KA-BAR is also a lockback design vs liner lock of the RAT 1

  • @newfoundlandhunter1 I got mine from ebay, I could only get the part serrated blade but I tihkn plain edge knives are more useful. All in all it is a fantastic knife ans has come in handy many mnay times.

  • @gilgamesh1600 what type of lock would you prefer?

  • i used to have the 2nd left knife even thought im 11 i cllect pocket knive i fing and sell them for cheap

  • @Solareffects they are so expencive over here which sucks

  • Great vid!!!

  • I previously posted a negative comment about the Byrd Cara Cara. Just wanted to say that I have since become a fan of the latest Byrd designs. I added a Meadowlark 2 to my collection, and will probably buy the Cara Cara 2 in the near future. Thanks for the vid.

  • I have a Gerber Paraframe and I use it for EDC but I'm still having problems with opening it one handed. Is there any technique?

  • @Daflaminasian Spray some wd-40 on the pivot point, dude

  • @Daflaminasian the paraframe will break in fast if you use your knives. but to open it one handed you need to flick your wrist and build tension in your thumb before you find the correct deployment angle

  • Nice review, thanks.

  • You mention a few times..."not the best steel", so what is the best steel?

  • @johnmonk66 The best widely available steel in my opinion is S30V.

  • Bullshit each of those under $30! Here each one would be bout $250 so your very lucky

  • good picture, clear reasoning.

  • I like to use pocket knives for wittling but i dont have the best knife it is actually the worst but once i have the money ill buy a better one, i hope. Those are the best pocket knives i saw yet great design and its useful.

  • I can recomend the Kershaw Chill, verry lightweight, nice blade (with or without souracions) great steal (8Cr13MoV), looks elegant, flip opener (verry well done)

and great pricing: 16$ to 20 $. Ich recently bought it in switzerland and it was about 30 SFr. and even at this price its a great EDC knive!

  • CANNOT... forget about the Sog Flash I and II

  • Smith&wesson SORT is pretty good

  • i have a caterpillar pocket knife

  • its not carra carra, its cara cara. care-ah

  • Excellent video. I have to agree pretty much everything about best 5 high value knives, I got just TONS of Rat 1 since its my absolutely favorite edc high value knife. I got rid of spyderco Tenacious because of its blade shape, weight, and poor material compare to Rat 1. Now, I am getting Kershaw Skyline and Ka Bar for its size and weight for a pocket carry. Rat 1 I do not pocket carry, but keep it in my car / around a house by taking the pocket clip out.

  • would you mind giving exact prices for each knife? don't have alot of money, thank you

  • what do you guys actually use pocket knives for?

  • @daviewavie112 opening boxes and cutting them down for recycling. that's about it.

  • @CreativeOutletHobbie i know some people carry them for self defense/protection/survival. i could never really see myself stabbing/slicing anyone :X

  • @CreativeOutletHobbie i bought a cheap pocket knife before i went on this 3 day hiking trip, thought i might need it. but all i did was cop off leaves n fern or whatever. its good for potatoes n tomatoes tho.

  • @CreativeOutletHobbie lol you know that's not only it you just can't name it off the top of your head whenever you need it you kinda just use it

  • @CreativeOutletHobbie and whittling its a good hobby

  • @CreativeOutletHobbie And like all knife collectors, stabbing innocent people!

  • @daviewavie112 lots and lots of uses. opening packages, cuttin tihngs. survival. self defense. anytihng

  • @daviewavie112 everything. i use my 710 everyday

  • @daviewavie112 skinning stuff??

  • @daviewavie112 killing people!!!!....

  • @daviewavie112 collection...to play with....sometimes u gotta cut someone...when u get bored u can cut needless stuff

  • @daviewavie112 Self-defense, since where I live (New Jersey) prohibits carrying firearms, mace/pepper spray, and Tasers. A knife is the only option offered to NJ residents.

  • @daviewavie112 a million things

  • you should have done the gerber paraframe, great knife for under 30 bucks

  • i have a ? how do knives rust

  • great video but i have a ? what does EDC stand for first time ive heard this term

  • @codemancjackson Every Day Carry

  • @CreativeOutletHobbie thanks i kinda pieced it together after i posted the comment thanks for your help

  • @codemancjackson good thing that wasnt explained in the first 30 secs of the video.....

  • I have that leatherman and it works pretty well. Its one of my knives i keep in my tool box. The bottle opener is a plus! lol

  • @Clayman302 excellent!

  • I 2nd the Rat 1 I have had it for over a year now and its great......If you can spend around 50 you cant beat a spyderco Edura 4 though.....I have both on me at all times.

  • I got an $8 Ozark from walmart and it is very good. Thick steel, strong, nice grip. Made in China though, so no food cutting with it. I honed it with a steel and it's dangerously sharp, the out of the box edge was nice to begin with.

  • Rust?

  • got an ontario rat 1, love it.

  • the only spiderco i have is the grass hopper and the bug the spiderco bug is a minni brute espetialy for its size!

  • Good list (minus the right hand only thumb-stud. I am left handed and there for resent you :P). Just be careful with the tenacious. I've heard it tends to bite. And I would honestly just up my price point to 50/60 at this point and buy a Delica or Endura. Still a good list of cheap and well built knives though.

  • thanks dude great vid. i was gonna buy the kershaw scallion at dicks for about $30 cuz i like kershaw a lot, but i just realized the skyline has a bigger blade and is a cooler shape.

  • The Buck Vantage is also a great affordable EDC knife.

I've seen them at Wal Mart lately for under $30 and they are US made too.

  • FUCK! spyderco tenacious is fucking over 30 now! god damnit

  • you should also look at a kershaw o so sweet its a great knife for the price

  • @mw2gunshow

look for a buck knife they stay sharp and lock good and theyre not too expensive. theyre at any sports store. im 12 and my first pocket knife was a buck

  • @AndrewJBright my dad has that knife its small but sharp

  • @MW2gunshow go to REI or Dicks Sporting Goods. these r good places to look

  • High value is where its at....screw paying too much for a freaking knife....they get beat up!

  • what website is it

  • I have an E302, it has 2 screwdrivers.

  • I'm look for my first pocket knife folds and locks also good for carving and can find at store plz plz respond

  • sick

  • The LM steel is actually 420 HC

  • this is a folding knife review ...not really what most people consider "pocket knives"

  • the skyline is the sh*t

  • oh, dude. tight pocket clips are no problem. I bend every last one of mine out until the knife is basically hanging. allow me to qualify: my clips are tight on field/uniform pants, not my office slacks. I have worn knives EDC for 16 years and never lost one.

  • you sound like one of my teachers at my school.

  • Are you a teacher?

  • lol.. what a random question

  • Comment removed

  • tenacious all the way mann am buying mine in 2 weeks

  • RAT 1 all the way,had mine for many months now, and love it, holds a great edge!!!

  • My best friend and I each bought that leatherman when we were kids and used them in the woods every day. We put them through way more than they were probably desgined for and they held up. I also have the Kershaw Skyline which is one of my favorite value folders. The thumbstuds are actually functional if you'd rather use them than the flipper for some reason. And i've personally never had a problem with the clip. Good video idea.

  • my personal fav. for a cheap edc is a gerber evo jr.

    best for your money

  • @bigmike784 ya thats my 2nd

  • Hello

Ive watched some of your videos. I subbed you, rated your videos and wrote some comments.

I like your style and I think you will like my videos too.

It would mean a lot to me if you watch some of my videos and subscribe to my channel if you like them.

Thanks! Also let me know what you like i will try to post it

  • try a gerber fast action knife. I got mine for $38 i got the tanto tip for 5 $ more

  • @HITMANMONSTER the Gerber safety is crap --sticky and cheap feeling. The Byrd knife is the best deal --- but they are ugly ---I got 2 ---Raven and Robin. If you look around for specials you can find a Benchmade Vex for around $50.Its worth the extra few dollars

  • @millwrightman99 well unless u work it a lot its actuakly really good

  • @HITMANMONSTER I wish you were right--- I got one right out of the blister pack that hardly moves-- pisses me off ,never had that problem with any of my Kershaws .I will probably never buy another Gerber .

  • I actually have the Gerber F.A.S.T draw knife, don't have the tanto tip though. I bought it at a Walmart in Hermitage, TN for $21 bucks

  • Yeah I love my RAT 1 & my leatherman (I have 2 leathermens.) awesome video btw. :-)

  • The tenacious has a 3 3/8" blade, not almost 3 inches. Unless you got the persistence which is 2 3/4".

  • I just got a Tenacious and I love it!

  • the ka-bar dozier knives have reversible thumb studs and clips - useful if like me you're left handed.

excellent light weight knife which comes in several blade shape varieties. And only just over 2 ounces.

  • yep I like it.

  • @tomfaranda have you ever used/tried the bobcat doziers? i'm looking at one to replace a light duty fixed blade.

  • This is a great vid, gives me some good ideas for x mas presents

  • nice vid

    great info

    nice presentation

    5 stars ...bro

  • Great vid man 5/5

And trust me, everyone probly thinks that the kershaw clips are way to strong, especially on the scallion

  • have you considered the crkt drifter. a personal favorite knife of mine and for $20 too

  • nice choices I just wish they were all made in the USA :D

  • I'm sure they are all designed, planned, marketed, sourced, and sold by all U.S. resources. That's higher skill and creates more wealth than following directions and putting something together. just my 2cents.

  • @skil1977 what is the deal with everyone wanting to have their knives made in USA ?! if the knife is a very good quality/value/money , who cares ?

  • @viniv20 Because everything made in America is nanoengineered from invulnerable unobtanium and infused with pure essence of the gods. Wheras anything made anywhere else is made of compacted panda bear crap and will instantly give you AIDS.

  • Nice choices. With all the quality, affordable options we have these days, I have become somewhat addicted to getting as many good knives as I can for as little money as possible. The Tenacious and Rat 1 are next on my list.

  • I'm a big Rat-1 fan. The tenacious never gets used.
