  • John Seymour would be quite proud. Did you know him, or read his work? I got his book, Fat of the Land, at our local library (Arkansas, USA) and eagerly read other things he had written. Dont agree with everything I suppose, but what I read, I liked.

  • hahaha your face was hilarious when you stretched the image

  • Bob you must have seen Chitychity bang bang....

  • what happened to making do 2?

  • you make use of special effects to great effect.

    By the power of SiFoyd!!!

  • Where does the money go ? It gets stolen..thats where it goes. 84 mil for a flat. The Filthy rich are mad and thick...bad combination 84 mil for flat....f**k Sake !

  • How m ironic it is watchig this video now almost 2 years later with the economy in the state that it is now.... I'm not exacly sure what else to say.. I'm all for this making do, hell i was thinking about this as a new years resolution for myself ( after getting your book ) But i'm not sure if its a good course of action in this current climate even if its just one man ( or woman ). Any future comment on this crisis on your WLW?

  • I think its disgusting that someone would get a multimillion pound bonus on top of their fat cat salary. I do agree that the proposed tax changes that the richer pay more tax. I mean for god sake, if someone earn 10 million a year and get tax 40% they still have a cool 6 million to themselves. The poor bloody hard done by fat cats. GGRRRR

  • yeah, dont work for fat cats . steal their cheese and give to mice.

automation will very soon take all the jobs away from mice and leave the fat cats even more port out, starboard home.:/

  • Im training to be self employed in the fitness industry. Itll be difficult but Im my own boss. Peace out. xx

  • in the current financial climate it's good to look back through these videos at happier times...

...actually i have no idea how finances work but it sound like a god throwaway comment

  • Scary Klingon Prof

  • The rich stay rich because they hoard their money. The trickle down effect is a lie spread by those very same people, as an excuse to cut welfare spending, thus allowing them to hoard even more money. What money they do spend goes into the pockets of other rich bastards.

  • you have nice eyes robert :D...u can c kryten in them. x

  • if you dont like it then dont watch it! dont waste your own time but doing stuff you dont like.

  • 84 million!

  • port out starboard home is not the etymology for the word posh (check out wikipedia)

  • you really shouldn't look to wikipedia for your info... reason why any one can update it and change the info on it..

  • 84 million! u can get 100 acers of land in canada for 250 thousand

  • Hahaha, love the voice change and balloon-head effect! Love the idea of making do. Of course, I do a fair bit of it myself because I just can't afford anything!

  • the same here

  • I love your Professor voice! :)

  • I'm loving these videos Robert, great work

  • I love this video!

  • Cool, great talent!

  • Kryten's on YouTube! LOL!

  • Alas, According to Wikipedia port out, starboard home is a false etymology. But a nice little story none the less!

  • Never knew thats what Posh meant, you learn something new every day

  • Robert, you've got me reminiscing over 'Chitty Chitty Bang Bang'.

I like that you're doing this 'making do' all year.

  • I'd love to try something like this [Making Do, that is, not using effects on my computer to make my head swell up and then explain the roots of a word] but after I've left school... I think school is designed just so we can spend ridiculous amounts of money on things like pencil sharpeners and rubbers which will inevitably get stolen on the first week back after Christmas.

Anyway, I think it's a really good idea doing this, good luck (:

  • That's a very interesting comment about the word 'posh', I have an American girlfriend and she had no idea what the word posh meant - which really struck me as rather odd because it's such a common word! Great video, keep on not.. consuming!

  • Your etymology of posh is incorrect. Although I think you're joking about it. Anyway these rumors come up a lot and attribute false origins to other words, such as shit (rumor: Shit High In Transit) or fuck (Rumor: Fornication Under Carnal knowledge).

  • You saying that Lionel Jeffries lied to me!! I can nver watch Chitty Chitty Bang Bang again..:<

  • the plumbing. Good analogy. haha

  • OMG £84 million for a flat O_o

  • Good luck, Robert! Definitely admirable, what you're doing. I don't know anyone else this dedicated:-)

  • "I do not want what I have not got" I think Sinead O'Connor said that. As always Rob, you are spot on! There has never been a trickle down effect, it's more like flood up! In order to retain things dear to the elite (money, power) the elite must remain a few, I think W H Auden said that.

  • Hey dude! Kudos to you for keeping it up :) Sis n' I are well impressed. You rock. Thanks for the education too :p Hmm that trickle effect... shame there even needs to be a trickle.. I just do not understand why rich people don't help the needy! Madness (and cruelty!)

  • Good luck Robert! =)

  • Prof.Vivian Alice is the man!

  • From Wikipedia:

A popular but false etymology states the expression originated from the phrase "Port Out, Starboard Home" ... However, extensive searching of shipping company records and tickets from that period has failed to reveal any evidence for explicit "Port Out, Starboard Home" reservations.

That said, I'm still tempted to believe the professor, he makes it so convincing.

  • Jesus i laughed at the prof. vivian Alice bit...i had missed him..

  • The reason these people have sooo much money, is because people buy all the crap they don't need, if everybody did what you do and just make do, then you will see the stupid amount of money these people in the city have vanish very quickly, then they will just have to make do...:D...just a thought...:D

  • very intresting best of luck with your making do year

  • That's interesting, making up your mind to make do removes the desire to buy. Cos I think most of the rubbish that gets bought - the stuff that no one really needs - gets bought when people are just out walking, not really meaning to shop. Or they go out to pick up a bottle of milk and end up drifting into the clothes section.

  • maybe if every red dwarf fan did this we could save enogth money to fund the movie

  • well done on making do. Enjoyed the 'historian's' comments ..nice effects lol and indeed the wealthy do have very good 'plumbers'

  • I work in community recycling and see on a daily basis the fall out of those who do NOT make do,it is genuinely frightening seeing the excess in this country and the gulf between rich and poor!

  • It's so refreshing to hear a 'celeb' choosing to do something that most of us have to do all the time. Good luck.

  • Brilliant Rob, keep it up:-)

  • -rofl- to callmejo "39 days..."

:D I agree, well done! Yes, consumerism is rampant in too many ways, and it is not generating anything of true worth or value. Its sad to think, the renaissance painters art will still be hung in galleries 500 years hence, and of the 20/21 century... well... not a lot of value to carry forward from this time is there, everything is so disposable that our past is marked not in works but in landfill :(

  • Good on you, Rob! Great to see you're sticking to your guns whilst the rest of the world drowns in its own riches. No armbands necessary for you, good sir! :D

  • so Robert, are you an optimist, 39 days purchase free, or are you a pessimist, 326 days left? i am sorry, i don't know what came over me...keep it up. keeping my fingers crossed for you :-D

  • great vid rob i always like to her what u been up to ...right now am going to ask u a question and i will nderstand if u don't anser me i was woundering " what has been the funnest or crazest fan u hav met" ok bye for now:D
