  • This did not work. I have gone backwards in my attempts to get my iphone 3gs working. I have 06.15.0. using IOS 4.1.0 trying to update to IOS 5.0 which then bricked my iphone back to square 1. I then attempted to update my itunes to the latest version and now i cannot even get my iphone up on itunes as the error message comes up saying that it cannot contact the server.

  • GAY! i love not being able to turn on my iphone -_-

  • @sonicmikmakdx Make sure you are updating to iOS 5.0.1, not 5.0. And try wiping out anything in your hosts file that looks like "127.0.0.1 gs.apple.com"..wipe out anything with numbers following "gs.apple.com" and try restoring.

  • Thank you very much it worked ^^"

  • my ETC in drivers is completely empty? is this normal?

My computer is a workstation connected to a server. But I am the administrator and log in through administrator. Have you seen this before.

BTW you are amazing of how much you know.

  • @dpinero234 Sorry for the late reply and I have never seen this before. But the files within etc are usually built up from other programs, such as Adobe flash, which gains permission through those hosts files and etc files.

  • Hey there, my girl have the exact same problem and we found it out while trying to update her iPhone 4 to iOS 5.

    OS: Windows xp

    iTunes version: 10.5

    iPhone is jailbroken

now the problem is the hosts file is named "hosts1" which is i found strange,, besides that, the last 2 lines in the hosts file are showing the following string:

    127.0.0.1 localhost

    74.208 gs.apple.com

so i am not sure how to fix this, any advise will be helpful and thanx a lot for your help

  • @visionexpression Thats a little strange..try renaming the file your host file so that it says "hosts". And delete the string "74.208 gs.apple.com" and add: 74.208.10.249 gs.apple.com

    # 127.0.0.1 gs.apple.com

    #74.208.105.171 gs.apple.com

Hopefully this will work. Tell me if it doesn't and I will try to find another solution.

  • @evilninjaz99 @evilninjaz99 Done, still no changes,,

please i really appreciate your help.

  • @visionexpression Delete the #74.208.105.171 gs.apple.com line.

  • I cant save the changes help?

    thanks

  • @dwdrmr26 Try adding this line to the end of your hosts file:

    #74.208.105.171 gs.apple.com

    Tell me if it works!

  • where the hell is the library in the begining????

  • @steveabdal It should be in your taskbar, Are you running a Mac?

  • @kevinsipodhelp Just look for notepad on your accesories tab in start then right click and select run as administrator. Open up hosts. and delete everything that says apple (the bottom part) and save

  • it tells me access denied. You need permission from the administrator but I am the administrator

  • @JossyG10 Weird.. :( what OS are u running?
