I remember thinking it possibly a massive meteor that sailed by us, as for it to have a tail like that, it mustve been huge and moving at speed, yet its distance making it look small. (But I could find no info on such a large body missing earth that (relatively) close.)

Or in atmosphere, yet slow and with a tail I couldnt explain.

I'd love to know what that was.

I saw a redder version a couple of years ago, it was the night of that massive meteorite shower, the thing I and a neighbour who was watching also saw moved very very slowly to the east.

The meteorites zipped by at pace yet this moved realslow and appeared to have a tail.

I second your theory, I've seen this identical thing and then it gets darker out (or lighter) and it becomes more apparent what it is. We had several stories on the news here where people thought it was UFO and then turns out it was jet trails....only the thickest part of the trail seems to light up, or light is directed by clouds into a portion of the trail, so thats where the 'rest of the trail' is. But I still have no doubt there's real UFO stuff going on out there. Alien or not..

I dont see movement. Using a video camera on a still image with a smudge is quite common. Thats why they dont pan around or the lack of movement.
