@xXWhitewind The rear tail wing is adjusted based on the conditions, course type, etc. Usually, the tail wing keeps the transom out of the water just enough to keep about 1/3 of the prop in the water, and reduce drag.
@Fuktupratbag They have what is called a canard wing on the front of the boat, controlled by the driver through pedals, to control the attitude of the boat.
@mcfatty510 Yes they do. They also have a tall wing in the back of the boat that cannot be adjusted by the driver on the water, it is fixed before the race.
Way to go on making a cool vintage video with great music!! Loved it! I have an 1/8 scale miss Circus Curcis, just like the one in scene 3. When i saw that flip, it made me realize that, no matter how crazy or dangerous all forms of racing are, hydroplane racing is still and alway's be the most Badsass forum of racing EVER!! Deal with that!!
@igotapickle88 Sounds like you really love hydro crashes. It is some pretty wicked carnage! As long as no one died, then it's even better. No doubt a kick ass video. Keep racin'!
these things are basically aeroplanes that ride on water. they should design them so that they can be controlled while airborne. that way, maybe can can make controlled landings.
and why is the guy steering at the end when his boat goes airborne?
Thanks for putting this video together. Nobody wants them to crash, but when they do, it's jaw-dropping spectacular. The physics of these boats are amazing!
@sharkbowl300 I didn't know I had another kid, who are you??? That is my footage, there was someone else that had a similar shot but it was a little north and farther away than mine.
@mcfatty510 The "save" at 1:15 is the closest you will get without blowing over. I watched the Doha race on line and the Steve David flip was scarry but the best part was when he kept the engine running and drove it back to the pits.
Must be hard for those guys to buy an insurance policy.
