some of these people are liars... they listen to trey songz talk about sex but dont want their favorite gospel artist to talk about love? The wisest man ever beside Jesus was Solomon. Who wrote song of solomon... read it, its actually in the Bible. and gives glory to God
Man oh man, people misinterpret the Holy Books in so many ways, and then push their opinions as fact. God doesn't want you to be obsessive with anything, not even Him. God didn't make everything black and white or cut and dry. Who's listening to gospel when they're having sex? I think even God would laugh at that lol.
I haven't followed u long but I'be found nothing distasteful or inappropriate abt what u do. Keep blessing us w/your beautiful gift. Sincerely Pastor Anne
I'm all for this seriously...I'm a strong Christian and it's such a breathe of fresh air to have a young man of God putting out love songs that are family friendly because realistically when I get married I need some good tunes to make love to so really as long as he's not singing about fornication or glorifying adultery or anything that's not pleasing in the sight of God, there is nothing wrong with it
hey PJ this is the sound guy from Dallas, hey man i did not know who your music until the night of the show but i have not stopped busting for ya bro..... It's on fire, and i know all the powers in dallas..... love it bro!!!!
Front of house was SLAMMIN sorry about monitor rig , it was new and untested
LoL so true...They say don't through stones if you live in a glass house...I've found that, that brother has always been shifty when it comes to giving credit to others (influence in his music) and inconsistent with his talk (Stand out). One minute hes knocking R&B and the next hes morphing his voice like they do in heavy metal.classic case of changing the rules when its your time to play. what he failed to do was to mention that no man is perfect, seek God for yourself and leave it at that.smh
PJ said in his song, why cant we talk about what happens between the "hi" and "i do" but when when we talk about marrige then everythings cool. How many "gospel" singers made song about their husband or wife. Why cant i tell my gf i love and even sing it to her? They say its not biblical but if i quote songs of soloman in my song, is that still the case? For tye, you can argue that the dancing hair/clothing and culture is ungodly.Come on, God aint concerned about half this stuff. LOVE ur BROTHER
I am so proud to hear good love music again, PJ's songs like 'This Feeling' is bringing you back to TRUE love and even 'Mountains and Molehills" is encouragement and an expression of love. That's what music is supposed to be...finally.
Tye, I understand, but if God is calling you to go forth in His will, that's what you do, it's something different. God is love. If we can talk about it, why not sing about it?
@ladyjmk20 he tried back in the day...I say he didn't make the cut, he says he was called out from among them...lol. I found a title on which he shares writting credit with Carl Thomas.
Hmmmm....interesting CNN video segment. Here's my 2 cents. Isn't God ultimately the creator/producer of all things. Neither PJ/Tye are creating music solely by themselves. It is a gift from God that inspires their work and music. SO YES LET'S HAVE BOTH, especially when there are so many people who need to hear good music to help them make it through life !
@TRUOHIO I will agree that the tool of music comes from God,but as we can see with the wrong influence things can get corrupted. God's intent is that everything be pure, but he did give us free will so with that people will do with it what they may even to worship the devil. yep.
@RyMuEntertainment But why just single out music ? A lot of entertainment and media is negative. What I am trying to articulate is that God is diverse. He created these art forms because he is the creator. He gave these people the inspiration to create. I'm not denying that there are wicked forms of entertainment and music...there are. But there is so much good and positive music, and there are so many things that happens in ones life that need to be sung and expressed.
Don't we in the church have better things to debate about than this? Let's leave PJ alone and worry about these souls out here who've never heard the Gospel!
Thanks for having the guts2write this book.I do believe that real love music serves a purpose, and am glad that you are addressing the issue. The church has a problem with love songs because they are usually contaminated w/fornication, adultery, etc. They are usually no longer about genuine love that we are suppose to have for each other. Plz continue to produce spiritually upright love songs that uplift God and unite relationships.Keep ur head up.We r counting on you2continue to make a difference
Blessings PJ, congrats on your new book! I'm a little confused though. God IS Love, so the music you have written already is about love. Are you asking, why can't I sing about my love for people/things? You're already singing about your love for God. Please explain!
I am an R&B singer/ songwriter and I love the Lord! I write music that inspires. A young lady wrote to me and told me that she was about to commit suicide and somehow she came across one of my songs called "My Life" and as she listened to it something came over her and she couldn't do it. We all know that "something" was the spirit of the Lord. We all fall short in one way or another. Keep letting God use you! U never know just how much you touch people. Those w/o sin cast the 1st stone.
The issue shouldn't be whether christians listen to or sing about love, but in what state are they singing and writing about it. It would be wrong for me as a single man to write or sing about making love to a woman that is not my wife. However, if I'm singing this to and for my wife, that's a whole different ball game. Everything has to have balance and be done decently and in order. Don't get it twisted. God is Love (agape, unconditional love, not eros, baby making love)
BTW, no disrespect tonoslim, but the view that you have on this subject is a MAJOR influence on why people leave the church or get disgruntled with church and its people. I know this to be a fact because I was one of them. I'm back but my views are totally different.
NO IT'S PEOPLE LIKE YOU, Pumah81, that are the reason that people leave the church. IT'S CALLED COMPROMISING. "Well if the Pastor or Minster is doing "this", then I can do "that". The Word of God should be followed to the "T" regrardless of what other people are doing. If we don't follow what the Bible instructs us to do, that means we have doubt in our own hearts. Tonoslim gave you scriptures to prove his point while everyone else just talked about their expriences or points of view.
Really Sweetdenni?!?! So someone leaves the church becuz I want to sing about the one God created for me with the emotion he is?!?! Wow!! I don't know if u read PJ's book, but he backs his with word as well. I even gave u an entire book in the bible that talks about love for your significant other. VERY GRAPHIC BOOK BTW! So I guess Solomon is burning as we speak. LOL! If Christ talks about his bride, which is the body, why can't I talk about mine. He even commands us to love our spouses like he
Well, I honestly think that it's forums like this, where we ARGUE and try and prove who is right and who is wrong, which is called PRIDE, that drives people not just from the church, but from God. We are so caught up in "church" that we have left the father and his intent for our lives.
I think it is a bold statement to say that God is so "weak" minded, that he would toss and turn over us listening to and/or singing songs about love for one another. It's not compromising.
Funny thing is, when I first listened to PJ, I was under the assumtion that he was a believer from some of his lyrics. I never walked away from his music with some of the urges and desires that I do listening to others.
We, meaning, me and you, have to use wisdom about what we choose to listen to. If it offends you, don't listen.
It is not our job to do Gods job and decided if a person is or out of his will. Some things are very clear, and we are not the judge, the word is, but there are things that we have to allow to run their course and allow the Holy Spirit to be the one who deals with it.
Who are we to judge if PJ is wrong or if he is right...and since, NONE of us, can seem to actually give clear justification as if weather or not this is out of Gods will, PRAY and STOP make a fool of ourselves on here.
I Cor. 6:12 - All things are lawful unto to me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but I will not be brought under the power of any....Just something is not hurting you or other people does not mean that it lines up with God's standard. God's standard is for us live Holy and to preach the Gospel. Not to entertain people's flesh. We have enough of that on T.V., radio and the internet...
There are so many christians that are so heavenly bound, but no earthly good! Music is a powerful tool. We need it for our spirit and we also need for our souls. I've read songs of solomon and it is VERY graphic! All PJ wants to do is ing about the very thing GOD created along with the creation! People get off your deep and mysterious horse and open your mind!! PJ there is a reward that awaits u for doing what he has instructed. You're saving someone's marriage or relationship. DO IT!
WELP! my comment is surely dumb and just not matching anybody else's but cant help myself DANG this man can REALLLLLYYY sing!!! wow! is anybody else paying attention to that??!!!!! omg! love song church song, it doesnt matter its all about love anyways one talks about loving GOD and the other talks about loving the one he blessed you with! GET OVER IT WORLD!LOL ........sing on mr.!
Thanks Cnn for bringing this up. Like the word says everything should be done in decency and in order. Nobody is making love to Holy Holy Holy Lord God Almight. Get real people. The songs of Solomon are the most romantic and graphic passages I have ever read in my life. Its crazy to think that we cant have love songs in the church. Church folk can be so judgemental. Maybe that's why there is more divorce in the church than in the world. You think that God doesn't want you to be romantic?
Everything u do & sing is not worshiping God. I don't worship when I eat food! The kingdom of God consists of married believers. God gave u those gifts as well as ur desire 2 use them 4 kingdom citizens. I don't believe that the music believers listen 2 has 2 b categorized along w/ secular styles like R&B/Hip-Hop/Jazz, etc., nor do I believe that we should expose ourselves 2 everything just bcuz we can. I agree w/ Tye in that you can't feed ur spirit anything and truly live 4 God 2 = CONFLICT!
I thought that being saved was about relationship and who am I to say what God is saying in someone else's relationship. Each individual relationship with God is different. God knows exactly what he has put in and has purposed for each of us so it is not my job to judge another person's relationship. PJ... do what God has called you to do and maybe it will give others the courage to be true to God and their relationship orders.
P.S. What do the scriptures say: Read Col. 3:16-17: "Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. And whatsoever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him."
So this is my question: Colossians 3...not just these two verses is not speaking about a song...it's speaking about a lifestyle. So are you telling me I can only work in F/T Ministry, and that I can't eat out because there is to cussing and drinking in restaurants? These are just a few ex. of many which I can use which will justify your point. This is NOT what Col. 3 is talking about.
Instead, Col. 3 is speaking on many things...being heavenly minded; not being corrupt; living in love with one another; plus the duties of wife/husband, servents, parents/children.
Tell me, is it a sin to sing what he's singing? Can we honestly say that it is and displeasing to God. Are people who hear his music affected in a way that causes the grace of God to be felt?
And in no way am I saying you're WRONG, but what I am saying is that you are speaking from a one sided place that has been taught. Christ has extended to us his freedom, and this freedom gives us to ability to be able to discern what is right and wrong so that we can make righteous decisions.
Do like Col. 3:12-15, and I promise, this whole thing here will be dust in the wind.
And btw, yes we can acknowledge that God has given some of us the ability to make and perform music, but that is not an excuse to go off singing, playing, writing and listening to music that does not glorify Him. Let's be honest and admit that we want to cater to our FLESH, rather than the LORD.
Look at some of the gospel song writers of the past, when they wrote gospel songs it was about the GOSPEL. It is unfortunate that alot of today's gospel music isn't gospel anymore. If we're not talking about how to get saved, how to stay saved, and if we omit the name of Jesus out of our songs, then technically, it is not the gospel.......It's just inspirational music and has NOTHING to do with Christianity.
I am so tired of some Christians using the "I'm not listening to gospel when I'm making love to my spouse" excuse to justify their listening secular music, R&B in particular. I think that pastors should be careful and wise about making these comments to their congregation. This gives people a license to just listen whatever they want.
Last thing tonoslim...I agree, that is not an excuse, but, my question is this...will you listen to it, gospel music, while with your spouse, if you have one, making love?
I guess my thing is this, there is a place for his music, and we are not to judge weather or not God called him or not to sing these songs; unattaced from the "spouse-love making" thing. Let PJ do his thing and if you disagree, pray, but don't judge.
PJ...I LOOOVE what you're doing and admire your courage to stand in spite of judgements and opinions. It's amazing how some are so quick to assume what God is saying concerning others calling and assignment. I personally choose to mind my business and say follow God brother and let Him continue to use YOU!!!
We spend so much time trying to justify what we're doing. Ok PJ -- write your love songs. The style R&B (Rhythm & Blues) is NOT A GENRE given to anything of God. Why r u trying to fit there anyway? Music is ministry no matter what you sing. Just make the music you believe God has called YOU to do. Stop trying to be accepted by people and make sure your hearts desire is to please God. Stop bashing believers that don't want to listen to your music. My local R&B station plays nasty, foul music.
I feel that you really can't give an opinion regarding the music that PJ writes based on this specific clip. Listen to his music (all of it!) & then give a statement. I have all of PJ's music & NONE of it eludes to sex. He simply talks about the processes of love & love in its purest form. Bishop Morton is right, I'm NOT gonna put on Dottie Peoples when it's time to be w/my husband! Traditional gospel doesn't express the love that you have for your mate. There's a time & a place for everything.
I agree true love songs come from God. We need them. We may love the Lord with all of our hearts but when we are having a romantic evening with our spouse building a family we are not listening to Shirley Ceaser, even tho we love her it is not the music that is conducive for that atmosphere. Stop putting God in OUR little boxes. He so much bigger that CHURCH and CHURCH MUSIC.
Religious Tradition is KILLING PEOPLE by leaving so many out feeling they have nothing to offer the body of Christ.
I posted this on my facebook page and this are the comments:
Maggie Joy Stanton: As a marketplace apostle, PJ will always be misunderstood by the traditional christian...tradition makes the word of no affect...Live a godly life, pj, that honors God...let the life you live speak for you...be a witness in the music industry and snatch the unbelievers out of the fire for the glory of God.
Beverly Hicks: PJ< Be obedient to and respect what God's Word has to say about the music U sing. If he says you can do both, then do both. If he says you are not to do both, then dont do both. No matter what people say; no matter how bad "we" want to reach the unsaved; it is better to respect and obey God's Word than to justify our wants and desires. IF God says... Read More for you to sing love songs, my brother do it and do it well and make it descent. If God tell you to stick with love songs
cont.... that glory only him, them my brother do that and do it well. Whatever you do, do it to the glory of God. Like Bishop Morton says, when he want to spend intimate time with Mrs. Morton, Amazing Grace aint gonna make it happen. What ever song you sing, make sure the word are descent and pleasing in the ear and to the heart of God and man. Know that we love you and wish you the best. Except God's peace and do well.
YAY! Im so glad you were able to be on here and share this with the world! Im so sorry that Tye feels the way he does...you should send him your book! Love music belongs in the kingdom....its time we take it back! The enemy has destroyed it and when we just forsake it we just letting him have it! WHICH SUCKS!
I think that the Christian experience is much bigger than just the verses that are sung over and over in much of gospel music. I chose to write about how to pay my bills, getting over loss, self-esteem etc. and I still look as my music as "electronic hymns". So unless I am convicted to do otherwise, I will trust that I am in God's Will! God is Love!
Good piece! As a singer and a Christian I have often wondered about this. When I was writing my new album, GODCHILD, some nights I couldn't sleep because I wanted to make sure that the message of my album (although inspiration but perhaps not one people would easily put into a Gospel category) would not be misinterpreted. At the end of the day, I realized that God not only gave me this gift, but also the Holy Spirit to speak to me when I go off course.
not two masters...i serve one GOD..the God who gives all music..he's bigger than what we try to box him into..my book is ALL scriptural not opinion. read it first then holler at me... just like God gave them to solomon he gives them to me...Tye even said he took the scripture out of context... what's my other master?? love? lol..
PJ...I know you know this, but God loves you man. He's your justification and your righteousness...not them! God has already checked your stuff out, and has okay'd it! Who cares what they think.
Just pray man, which I'm sure you do, and if they are really as loving and Godly as they are acting, they will pray and stop judging you. ;-)
Tye's comment...so whack! Awesome point in your response about faith coming by hearing...question is, what are these folk listening to? Peace and Blessings.
@pjmorton I'm just now seeing this clip. I'm so happy that you KNOW your God-given purpose in life. It's quite problematic when people use Scripture out of context. Usually, when people do, they falter in simple areas of what's required from God.
@pjmorton PJ you are right.. Who are you serving other than the heart of others through your secular music. I just don't understand what difference it makes. The only problem I think would be if you wrote about having sex and you aren't married.
@pjmorton PJ you are right.. Who are you serving other than the heart of others through your secular music. I just don't understand what difference it makes. The only problem I think would be if you wrote about having sex and making love you aren't married.
As a minister of music myself I understand what PJ is going through. But if you chose to do an R&B project make sure it's on love not lust. Maybe God will use u to bring that wonderful dynamic of love where everything is not so sexually explicit. But if you work on a gospel/Christian project focus that time just on a Christian project. I agree with Tye Tribbett like the Bible says, you can't serve two masters, not at the same time at least, cause God knows how we can get. trrracy rena

3 is talking about.
natepointertube 2 years ago
Instead, Col. 3 is speaking on many things...being heavenly minded; not being corrupt; living in love with one another; plus the duties of wife/husband, servents, parents/children.
Tell me, is it a sin to sing what he's singing? Can we honestly say that it is and displeasing to God. Are people who hear his music affected in a way that causes the grace of God to be felt?
natepointertube 2 years ago
And in no way am I saying you're WRONG, but what I am saying is that you are speaking from a one sided place that has been taught. Christ has extended to us his freedom, and this freedom gives us to ability to be able to discern what is right and wrong so that we can make righteous decisions.
Do like Col. 3:12-15, and I promise, this whole thing here will be dust in the wind.
natepointertube 2 years ago

Let PJ do his thing and if you disagree, pray, but don't judge.
natepointertube 2 years ago

Maggie Joy Stanton: As a marketplace apostle, PJ will always be misunderstood by the traditional christian...tradition makes the word of no affect...Live a godly life, pj, that honors God...let the life you live speak for you...be a witness in the music industry and snatch the unbelievers out of the fire for the glory of God.
ladydiva2786 2 years ago
Beverly Hicks: PJ< Be obedient to and respect what God's Word has to say about the music U sing. If he says you can do both, then do both. If he says you are not to do both, then dont do both. No matter what people say; no matter how bad "we" want to reach the unsaved; it is better to respect and obey God's Word than to justify our wants and desires. IF God says... Read More for you to sing love songs, my brother do it and do it well and make it descent. If God tell you to stick with love songs
ladydiva2786 2 years ago
cont.... that glory only him, them my brother do that and do it well.

Im waiting for your new album....

At the end of the day, I realized that God not only gave me this gift, but also the Holy Spirit to speak to me when I go off course.

not two masters...i serve one GOD..the God who gives all music..he's bigger than what we try to box him into..my book is ALL scriptural not opinion. read it first then holler at me... just like God gave them to solomon he gives them to me...Tye even said he took the scripture out of context... what's my other master?? love? lol..

totally agree bruh!!!! keep doin wat u doin!!! and what God says!!

God is love....continue to sing about it:)

@pjmorton PJ you are right.. Who are you serving other than the heart of others through your secular music. I just don't understand what difference it makes. The only problem I think would be if you wrote about having sex and you aren't married.

PJ, those of us who CAN HEAR know that your music comes from a pure place. Your music is for people who know, or want to know Love...and God IS Love.
God's increased and continued blessing on your life and your music bro.
When you coming back to L.A.? Missed you last time.
