@LaightonEdits The Welsh Dragon was actually on top of the American flag so you confused me a bit :L and come now, I don't think there is any major "Welsh vs American" going on :)
As a Welshman, let me give a very quick history of our nation!!!!!!!
Certain surnames are derived from english surnames during the 13th to being welsh!! The true jones and Jenkins surnames of wales are from wales!!!!!
Secondly the saxons first christened us as wales in their language NOT THE ROMANS as a nation of strangers and trsvellers because during felting Britain us celts used to travel across the country often!!!!
@Gwenalltapowain jones is not a welsh name, there is no j in our alphabet. the welsh name was ioan. and jenkins was siencyn which in turn was slang for pretty john. i know because im from brynsiencyn or pretty johns hill in english.
cymro means brother and welsh means foreigner, typical english, even when they invade a country they think the locals are foreign.
@ScottStedford14 I'm a Watkins, which means I'm of the kindred that trace their origins to a bizarre family named Walters which inhabited the Welsh/English border around a thousand years ago. It's extremely difficult to trace Welsh family origins according to any racial blueprint prior to 500 years ago simply because of the patrilineal naming: a given name like 'Walter' would become the surname of the son.
Jones and jenkins are not welsh names one is from cornwall and one from the south east of England.there was no J in the welsh alphabet .I will find the links to this, most of the coal miners ancesters where from the midlands and frm cornwall
The word Wales came from the romans meaning waste land and covered the west country as well as the now named princeipalatry of wales.
US and Wales are two very different countries. I'm Welsh, I don't dislike America, but I don't really see ANY connection there at all. Most celts (and original British) are of welsh decent anyway and they've all changed into their own seperate countires. People are pushing for this mixture and combining of cultures these days. I say NO. Stick to your own country and stay out of others.
95 % on this video is full of sh!t guys ...nothing in welsh is like any jewish words you plum! the welsh going to America and teaching indians how to speak welsh BIG LOL..owain gwynedd(dont you mean MADOC) i cant go on any more this is all sh!t guys .....any 1 of you ever bin to Wales ? come over and see . but please stop putting this shizz up on hear cos its dumb
Oh I get it now, that's why it bothers you, you have a bee in your bonnet about catholicism. Sorry, I couldn't care less what your religion is and disagreeing with the religious is utterly pointless because when the facts are in doubt "God said so." beats any arguement I can come up with. Last point, if the catholics corrupted your country how come "Almost every U.S. President has been of Scots-Irish heritage?" Don't expect an answer, don't care anymore.
@ir080485 The catholic immigrants (Irish, Italians) [as well as the jews and other trash from Eastern Europe] invaded American cities in the 1800's, that is when we have the rise of mobs, mass poverty and governmental corruption. Those immigrants coming from catholic and orthodox countries understood NOTHING of political and religious liberty as did Northern-Western Europeans and thus turned my nation into an absolutist Empire.
@ir080485 The U.S. was founded and settled by people who risked life and limb to come to this continent to avoid that terrible European spectre known as catholicism as well as its twin sister anglicanism (anglo-catholicism). Allowing in mass immigration from non-Protestant countries was one of the final nails in the coffin of this formerly limited republic. The same thing is happening today with these catholic mexicans who are INVADING the U.S. by the millions. U.S. will look like Cuba.
I didn't say that the Germans founded America, I said they had the most effect. Scots Irish are approximately 2% of the American population add that to the 12% with Irish ancestors and it still doesn't add up to the 17% that are of German descent. Of course you could add them to the 9% of the American population that claim English Ancestry but I don't imagine the Irish who fled persecution and starvation enjoying being grouped with the Auld Enemy. Still can't see why it bothers you so much.
@ir080485 First of all, what do these population numbers have to do with anything?? It is widely known that those surveys are HIGHLY flawed, for example, most the people that put "Irish" as their ethnicity don't realize that they are not actually Irish at all but are actually English and Welsh and only have Irish names because their descendents were of the Ulster plantations. The problem is that almost no white Americans claim "English" ancestory even though that is what they are.
I should note that the "Scots-Irish" I am mentioning are actually not of Scottish or Irish heritage at all but are the descendents of Welshmen like myself.
I like the facts, I have one small correction. Richard Amerik was Richard Ap Meurig. There is no K in the Welsh alphabet. If you say Ap Meurig quickly then it sounds like Americ. Ap is the welsh equivalent of the Scots/Irish Mc meaning son of. So Richard Son of Meurig helped fund one of Cabot's voyages. The two theories are that America was either named after Amerigo De Vespucci or Richard Ap Meurig.
It's very true, one of my great great grandfather ancestor Prince Hywel Dda Cadell "The Good" of Wales was a liberal democrat and the majority of the welsh imigrants were successful thinkers etc. look up famous Morgans, alot of our American education was created by them (for example)
Well the Irish were the ethnicity that did have the biggest part in the founding of America, BUT (and this is a big but) these were not the southern Roman Catholic "True Irish" but the Protestant Ulster-Scots who were English and Scottish settlers into Northern Ireland. I am an American of Welsh heritage but I have a deep respect for the "Scots-Irish" for what they did in forging this nation.
Actually, Germans and Dutch people had the most affect on American culture. Think of the food that America is most famous for the hamburger and the hot dog(frankfurter). The fact that Germany didn't really exist as a single entity until the late 19th century. The Germans moved to America to escape religious persecution, they brought protestant Christianity with them. If the Irish had that much effect then America would be Catholic.
@ir080485 First of all, the Germans and Dutch did not have nearly the effect on American culture as the groups I mentioned. Why do you think it is that we speak English and not German or Dutch?? Protestant Christianity was in America LONG before the German immigration, Protetestant Christianity was first brought to America by English Puritan settlers. Did you actually read my comment, I said the Irish that came WERE NOT catholics but Protestants, the Scots-Irish are Protestant.
You speak English because it was the language of the first colonists. When the Germans started to turn up it was already established and as immigrants they had to fit in. Why does it bother you so much that the Germans had so much influence on American culture?? I'm not making this stuff up I just read a book on the subject. German Americans 51 million, Irish Americans 36 million.
@ir080485 Okay, once again you are confused. Let me make this as clear to you as possible I am NOT talking about the Southern catholic Irish, but the Northern SCOTS-IRISH who are actually NOT IRISH AT ALL, they are Scottish and English, they are the founders of this country, they were the majority for most of American history [Almost every U.S. President has been of Scots-Irish heritage] and had the biggest impact on American culture.
@ir080485 No doubt that German immigrants played their part (especially in my native state of Pennsylvania) but the development of American government and culture was already firmly solidified long before the mass German immigration of the 19th century. It is no secret that the American Revolution was fought mainly by the Scots-Irish (Scots and Englishmen) while the German settlers mainly sided with the loyalists because they feared their land grants would be taken away by a new government.
@ir080485 Remember, when Washington and his army of Scotch-Irish (once AGAIN the Scotch-Irish are Welsh and English not actual "Irish") defeated the Hessians (German mercenaries)?? Oh how glorious it was. One German officer stated "Call this war by whatever name you may, only call it not an American rebellion; it is nothing more or less than a Scotch Irish Presbyterian rebellion." A British general testified to the House of Commons that "half the rebel Continental Army were from Ireland".
@ir080485 The German settlers are just one of the groups that benefitted from the liberal government and freedom of religion which was created and provided by ENGLISH Quakers here in my state of Pennsylvania. That being said, out of all the immigrants who came to came to my English America the Germans were by far the most productive and moral (holding firmly to the Protestant faith), they didn't corrupt and ruin this country as did the catholic Irish and Italian immigrants, jews, poles etc.
The fact that English people are infact saxons ( German ) really explains why their genes are so messed up - they have been at war with their own "family" twice !
To all the english people who think they no everything about welsh history ( keep your comments to yourself ) the welsh history goes further back than enland, ireland & scotland, welsh language being the oldest language in europe kind of tells you that fact. cymru am byth
Utah Mormons are giving the Welsh a bad name. Welsh donot believe in marrying 12 & 14 year old girls in the name of religion, thats a disgrace, their nothing but pedophiles
@JordanEvans3794 Saying I'm lying would suggest that I am making false statements and deliberately presenting them as truth, some of the information is incorrect yes but I am not a liar, I have got information from some websites and just put it together in a video, I have never made a video like this before and have made mistakes and as I have said many times, if someone tells me information that is wrong and where in the video it is then I shall make an annotation covering it.
@JoshuaDaPeck .....my grandad was in with royal east kent (the Buffs) and thier cap badge was a welsh dragon :) he fought in lybia, egypt , most of north africa, gibralar and other places i cant remember ...just google it , same with a flight get off youtube and look LOL
Only one Welsh born man signed the Declaration of Independance, Francis Lewis, born in Llandaff, Glamorganshire, however 15 other signatories were of Welsh descent: George Clymer, Stephen Hopkins, Robert Morris, William Floyd, Francis Hopkinson, John Morton, Britton Gwinnett, Thomas Jefferson, John Penn, George Read, John Hewes, James Smith, Williams Hooper, Lewis Morris, and William Williams.
James Henderson Williams, a general who fought Cornwallis's men during the Revolutionary War, was of Welsh decent. I should know, I'm related to him (he is my great great grandfather by blood).
This is really awesome to find out, i'm welsh, and i'm shocked lol, Do Americans hate welsh as much as they hate English?, It's sad that most Americans thing welsh are english
Good video and extremely interesting. However No8 is incorrect, St Brendan is reported to have made the first voyage in the 11th century. The markings you speak of are Celtic in origin, so its impossible to distinguish between whether they are Welsh and Gaelic.
@kikihav while that is shameful....there was never that many families who had many slaves....so its just a human elite...these welsh were traitors anyway, sorry you had to put up with them
Owain Glyndwr ap Gruffydd (Prince of Wales) is my 20th great grandfather's wife's son! My greatgrandmother was decended from Sir James Bowen . I proud to be a welsh American !! Thanls for the post !
@peterb37 How are you related to him then? That implies Elen ferch Tomos was married to your 20th great grandfather before or after she was married to Gruffydd Fychan. I don't know a lot about Elen to be honest so don't know if that is true or not. Either way, you would not be blood related, at least not directly, however, you could be related another way. Would love to learn more about your side of the family though,we are descended from Gruffydd Fychan through Owain's sister Lowri ferch
@peterb37 Gruffydd. That is on my mam's side. It means nothing to me having royalty in there because I am a Republican and very anti-monarchy. But my ancestors drive me to fight for independence once more. That is on my mam's side that is mostly Welsh and partially Breton and Norman. My dad's side is completely different, a very mixed bag. He is a mix of Irish, English, Scottish and American (God know's what on the American side lol). I love my whole heritage, but my loyalty is to Wales.
Listen you idiot, probably you are english, the true Brits are ancient Celtic tribes who originated for the old germania,, also cur this this nonsense about this red coat business.
The most cruel and most hated nation are the English who stole our freedom from us !!!!!!!!!
@Gwenalltapowain Your the type of person who should be shot. How idiotic can you get really? 'we are all celtic cousins!!!! So fuck the ENGLISH!!!!', do you even know how multi-cultural the whole of the UK is in the modern time? There is probably more celtic blood in England then their is anywhere else in the UK. Population of England is 56 million roughly, any other celtic nation has 1-2 million. Do the math.
@xUK91x i know, i was ironic, it's only that americans, when thinking about celts think about wales and ireland, nothing strange since these countries still have a celtic culture. anyway i still have to understand if the celtic tribes of ancient europe really had a common homogeneous culture, i think that celtic tribes who inhabited northern italy before the romans conquered the whole peninsula, had very little in common with those inhabiting wales during the same time.
@GetitUnderCool Do you mean DNA wise or cultural wise? If DNA, you will find that humans are very diverse in the gene pool, espeacilly in modern times, and back in the days of old, wherever a tribe moved to there genes became different to those of their previous lands due to breeding with the new locals of the area they moved too. If cultural wise you will find that every nation, no matter how small has a different culture to one another, again in the old days, this ranged from tribe to tribe.
@xUK91x i meant cultural wise, i find it more interesting. however where can something (books, websites) about the culture and history of the times before the foundation of rome?
@xUK91x i meant cultural wise, i find it more interesting. however where can something (books, websites) about the culture and history of the times before the foundation of rome?
@GetitUnderCool Your reading too deeply into it, before the time of literature there was artifacts. Many artifacts of the past have been dug up and with these findings scientists can connect dots of the human races history. Many artifacts connecting to celtic origon have been found throughout Europe and even in Western parts of Russia, older then artifacts dug up from the times of the Romans. Im a history nut when it comes to things like this,it sheds light on our heritage and history of humans.
@xUK91x well the trade can't also explain the presence of those artifact? another thing that really interst me is how was the level of contacts and trade with populations of other cultures, like germanics and greeks.
@GetitUnderCool That I really do not know. The trade with the Greek culture however couldn't have gone too well though. At a certain point they wanted Genocide of the Celtic culture. Germanics though where basically a family culture with the Celtic one, hence why both cultures where influenced heavily by one another. But thats just my opinion on that one.
@GetitUnderCool I know genocide usually refers to the extinction of a certain race or heritage of people. but i thought I would use it in the sense of wanting the extinction of their culture.
@xUK91x do you refer to the greek colonists in gallia narbonensis? anyway, i don't think they really wanted to actively destroy celtic culture, they only deemed celts "barbarians" just as any non-greek population.
having celts for neighboors wasn't easy. they posed a real threat to your cities and teritories and even if you coud do agreements with bordering tribes there were no guarantee that in the following years they would'nt change their minds about that, and if they didn't
@xUK91x there was always the risk of some other tribe migrating towards your territories and attacking them.
they were unpredictable, pretty much like the germanics. i think that the relationship that celts and germanics had with teriitory was completley different from the one that greeks and romans had.
@GetitUnderCool oh definately, that has been in the human instinct since the dawn of man. We are in all honesty a warring species. Celts and Germanics where shall we say? Uncivilised? In the sense of the Greeks and Romans, the Greeks and Romans heavily frowned upon them for this very simple reason.
@xUK91x i did'nt say they were uncivilised nor anyone can, but it is undeniable that the concept of "state" and territory that germanics had was incompatible with the one that romans and greeks had. coexistence was at least incompatible. Caesar himself noted that celts were not barbarians like he and other romans expected them to be, they were simply different, but they were also a menace to rome.
@GetitUnderCool *follow up to last comment, read that first ;)* It is much theorised that all Celts/Gauls orginate from (ironically) Germany, and the last ice age is what triggered this mass immigration around ancient Europe. So even more technically, even the Romans may have been originally celitc.
@xUK91x the few cultural features that romans, greeks, celts and germanics had in common have been explained with theory of a common indoeuropean orgin. the theory you talk about could work as well, but we are dealing with times in wich scripture was not yet invented, and without written documents it almost impossible to state undeniable facts. however, i think that the term "celtic" is quite generical, and possibly the celtic populations that lived in contact with germanic and italic
@GetitUnderCool oh no, you have to remember the celts where around long before the Romans and such. Before these imaginary borders the human race decided to spawn up to seperate lands from one another. The old Celts where a migrating culture constantly, they travelled even beyond the old Europe. It was only the last ice age that triggered the mass immigration to the West of Europe. Clashes with other civilisations mainly started when the Romans took control of Old Italy.
so technical as America won the war for independence, the Welsh man was also part of winning it as some of the founding fathers were welsh, thats so fucking cool
Jones is an English surname adopted by an unusually large number of Welsh people , presumably due to a lack of imagination in choosing the first name John (Ioan) far too often!
Hey Americans, now you know how us English feel, the celts are now trying to steal your history too. The celts are just as bad as afrocentrists, no great history of their own so they have to try and rob everybody elses.
@3thnkr - I think you'll find that English history turns into German and Danish history if you go back about 800 years. Celtic history in Britain goes back to 2000 B.C. at least!
Are you kidding? Are you saying that the 1066 battle of hastings was Germans/Danish against normans? Are you saying Alfred the great was a German/Danish king? God, you celts are fucking idiots.
@3thnkr - Yes I am. Alfred the geat was king of the Anglo-Saxons so nothing to do with the Celts. The battle of Hastings was one of many conflicts for power between the invading hoards of Britain, i.e. The Normans and Harold the 2nd (the last Anglo-Saxon king) All of whom were 'invaders' from Germany, France and Denmark ect. None of them Indigenous Britons.

@3thnkr - OK, Alfred the great was a king of the Anglo-Saxons (Germans). The battle of Hastings was one of many conflicts fought over power/territory ect between rival invaders of Britain (Battle of Hastings being between the Normans and Horold the 2nd (the last Anglo-Saxon king) All originally of German, Danish ect descent and all responsible in the genocide of the Celts (the original Britons)
@3thnkr - It doesn't really matter to me that much. The Germanic invasion of Britain was nearly 1000 years ago. The Celts came to Britain from Asia minor and central Europe.
Welsh is an old English word for slave, does that make all welsh people slaves? Also, the welsh are victims, and the English are their masters, what our little celtic pets call us doesn't really matter. And German and Germanic are not the same thing, idiot.
The people of what is now England were defeated and ruled over by Anglo-Saxons. The English were in turn defeated and ruled over by the Vikings and then the Normans. Who are the real slaves? Wales put up over 200 years of resistance against the Normans, while England was conquered by them in a few months.
How does Wales being a royalist stronghold mean they were slaves? A lot of English regions were royalist strongholds, so by your agrument they are slaves too. In the same way a lot of Welsh were fighting for the parliamentarians.
@ SCOTISHBOY! Give it a break mate, before us welsh boys get nasty with you ,, longshank little cock suckers,,,,
We are meant to to be celts for god sake,,, we done mistakes in the past but so have you, so let's stick together and unite the celts against these foreign invaders that RAPED our country! Yeah????
@Gwenalltapowain looks like the UK will have sharia law and millions of arabs soon! you better stick together for THE uk'S sake and for godsake stop voting for these fucking liberal progressives and socialist!
It wasn't Owain Gwynedd that went to America in the 12th Century, it was his son, Madoc ab Owain Gwynedd. That's how the Mandan Indians knew Welsh language.
Here's another fact: Jack Daniels of the whisky was from Swansea.
It wasn't Owain Gwynedd that went to America in the 12th Century, it was his son, Madoc ab Owain Gwynedd. That's how the Mandan Indians knew Welsh language.
captain Christopher Jones (c. 1570 – March 1622) was an English sailor, and master of the Mayflower between at least 1609 and 1622, who captained it on the transatlantic voyage that established the Plymouth Colony settlement. ...in this video hes WELSH lol get yr facts right mate plzzz
I'm not sure about number 7, it sounds a bit iffy the whole pen=head thing, I know it does but the Sylvania thing is not Welsh (I should know I am one)
Also number 8 is just a myth, that never happened, the 'language' spoken by those natives just sounded Welsh to the untrained ear, but no actual Welsh words were spoken
And again, 13, the self propelled steam engine was invented by the Germans
I love being Welsh, but I hate half-truthes and misconception, it makes us sound petty
@SecularTechnology 50 per cent of the signatories to the American Declaration of Independence were also Welsh or of Welsh heritage.that tells you enough of how much you need to know about the welsh influence on america
When the 'British' was fighting America in the American-revolutionary war it was mostly Wales that had claimed East of America, so when the Americans won the Welsh they were weakened, signed a treaty and got pushed aside by the English as it still remains today - fact
@SCOTTISHB0Y I'm American and I do! i think its pretty cool. only Britons, Irish and Germans could have laid such a solid foundation for the USA to build on. i think the history of Great Britain is F*cking epic! though sad at times, but alas, life goes on. the welsh are awesome at rugby (punch well above their weight), the Scots have the highlander games, and the English...well, fuck the English! jk :) David Beckham is coordinated as fuck. and who doesnt love newcastle brown ale
I wouldnt worry about it really , to say you give up things like being english is a + for you really. Its when you have to give up being Welsh you really are given up something special. But no true Welshman will ever know how that feels, cos A Welshmen could never be anything other, or want to be other than Welsh.
@alyndavies yeah, thats what i have noticed. and when it comes to such games as say the commonwealth games. england is always in the limelight, whereas wales and scotland are just lightly touched upon.
@flashash2k9 That is because England is 50 million people so naturally there is more to cover about england. In the same way that Cardiff is the main city in Wales with the biggest population so there is more to cover about Cardiff
@NumberDne actually, if you went by county borough's, caerphilly county borough would have the highest population, it's the town with the huge castle in it.
Why don't you have some Welsh Music in the background like Super Furry Animals or Manic Street Preachers or even Goldie Lookin' Chain, instead of these Canadian Boyo's?
8) Refers to Madoc ap Owain Gwynedd who supposedly landed in Mobile Bay Alabama in 1170 (if you believe Queen Elizabeth I spy, Dr. John Dee) or around 500AD if you prefer Mr. Blackett and Mr. Wilsons' explaination.
On factoid #8 .. I was speculative but i did about 45 minutes of research into this topic and saw further evidence to support it. Unfortunatly there is no archeologic evidence in Tennessee, Georgia, Alabama is forth coming nor is digging allowed. I would like to find original copies of the documents supporting this claim. I read several pages of the book entitled:
Footprints of the Welsh Indians: settlers in North America before 1492 By William L. Traxel and was VERY informative and detailed.
@Flayprime Two best books I have read on subject are: Deacon, Richard, Madoc and the Discovery of America - 1170, New York, 1965, Williams, Gwyn A. (1979): Madoc: The Making of a Myth. London : Eyre Methuen. ISBN 9780413394507
@Flayprime Archaeological evidence in Manchester Tennesse (Old Stone Fort) for example does not support the story. But some interesting artifiacts like the Batcreek Stone are worth a look, since they are the backbone of Blackett and Wilsons Arthurian hypothesis
Many English people are fair minded decent people, having said that, there has been a attitude of disreguard when it comes to Wales. The terms Britain and England were interchangable until 30's / 40's still are in certain quarters.
Welsh is 1 of the oldest languages in Europe, were literate and Christain long before the Saxons came to Brtiain. The Tudor (Welsh/Norman) rule strengthened England, broke away from Catholisim, which later lead to non conformists and education of ordinary people.
The first known record of the surname Jones is dated 1279, in Huntingdonshire, England.

WorshipInTruth 5 months ago
I didn't say that the Germans founded America, I said they had the most effect. Scots Irish are approximately 2% of the American population add that to the 12% with Irish ancestors and it still doesn't add up to the 17% that are of German descent. Of course you could add them to the 9% of the American population that claim English Ancestry but I don't imagine the Irish who fled persecution and starvation enjoying being grouped with the Auld Enemy. Still can't see why it bothers you so much.
ir080485 5 months ago
@ir080485 First of all, what do these population numbers have to do with anything?? It is widely known that those surveys are HIGHLY flawed, for example, most the people that put "Irish" as their ethnicity don't realize that they are not actually Irish at all but are actually English and Welsh and only have Irish names because their descendents were of the Ulster plantations. The problem is that almost no white Americans claim "English" ancestory even though that is what they are.
WorshipInTruth 5 months ago
I should note that the "Scots-Irish" I am mentioning are actually not of Scottish or Irish heritage at all but are the descendents of Welshmen like myself.
WorshipInTruth 5 months ago
I like the facts, I have one small correction. Richard Amerik was Richard Ap Meurig. There is no K in the Welsh alphabet. If you say Ap Meurig quickly then it sounds like Americ. Ap is the welsh equivalent of the Scots/Irish Mc meaning son of. So Richard Son of Meurig helped fund one of Cabot's voyages. The two theories are that America was either named after Amerigo De Vespucci or Richard Ap Meurig.
ir080485 5 months ago

@WorshipInTruth
If the Irish had that much effect then America would be Catholic.
ir080485 5 months ago
@ir080485 First of all, the Germans and Dutch did not have nearly the effect on American culture as the groups I mentioned. Why do you think it is that we speak English and not German or Dutch?? Protestant Christianity was in America LONG before the German immigration, Protetestant Christianity was first brought to America by English Puritan settlers. Did you actually read my comment, I said the Irish that came WERE NOT catholics but Protestants, the Scots-Irish are Protestant.
WorshipInTruth 5 months ago
@WorshipInTruth
You speak English because it was the language of the first colonists. When the Germans started to turn up it was already established and as immigrants they had to fit in. Why does it bother you so much that the Germans had so much influence on American culture?? I'm not making this stuff up I just read a book on the subject. German Americans 51 million, Irish Americans 36 million.
ir080485 5 months ago
@ir080485 Okay, once again you are confused. Let me make this as clear to you as possible I am NOT talking about the Southern catholic Irish, but the Northern SCOTS-IRISH who are actually NOT IRISH AT ALL, they are Scottish and English, they are the founders of this country, they were the majority for most of American history [Almost every U.S. President has been of Scots-Irish heritage] and had the biggest impact on American culture.
WorshipInTruth 5 months ago
@ir080485 No doubt that German immigrants played their part (especially in my native state of Pennsylvania) but the development of American government and culture was already firmly solidified long before the mass German immigration of the 19th century. It is no secret that the American Revolution was fought mainly by the Scots-Irish (Scots and Englishmen) while the German settlers mainly sided with the loyalists because they feared their land grants would be taken away by a new government.
WorshipInTruth 5 months ago
@ir080485 Remember, when Washington and his army of Scotch-Irish (once AGAIN the Scotch-Irish are Welsh and English not actual "Irish") defeated the Hessians (German mercenaries)?? Oh how glorious it was. One German officer stated "Call this war by whatever name you may, only call it not an American rebellion; it is nothing more or less than a Scotch Irish Presbyterian rebellion." A British general testified to the House of Commons that "half the rebel Continental Army were from Ireland".
WorshipInTruth 5 months ago
@ir080485 The German settlers are just one of the groups that benefitted from the liberal government and freedom of religion which was created and provided by ENGLISH Quakers here in my state of Pennsylvania. That being said, out of all the immigrants who came to came to my English America the Germans were by far the most productive and moral (holding firmly to the Protestant faith), they didn't corrupt and ruin this country as did the catholic Irish and Italian immigrants, jews, poles etc.
WorshipInTruth 5 months ago
@ir080485 Why do you think it is that the German groups (Amish, Mennonites etc) still refer to the rest of the U.S. as "The English".

Do the math.
xUK91x 10 months ago
@xUK91x what do you mean by "celtic nation"? france is a celtic nation ( do you remeber the gauls?) and has 65 millions of people!
GetitUnderCool 4 months ago
@GetitUnderCool I wasnt talking about France I was discussing the UK.
xUK91x 4 months ago
@xUK91x i know, i was ironic, it's only that americans, when thinking about celts think about wales and ireland, nothing strange since these countries still have a celtic culture. anyway i still have to understand if the celtic tribes of ancient europe really had a common homogeneous culture, i think that celtic tribes who inhabited northern italy before the romans conquered the whole peninsula, had very little in common with those inhabiting wales during the same time.
GetitUnderCool 4 months ago
@GetitUnderCool Do you mean DNA wise or cultural wise? If DNA, you will find that humans are very diverse in the gene pool, espeacilly in modern times, and back in the days of old, wherever a tribe moved to there genes became different to those of their previous lands due to breeding with the new locals of the area they moved too. If cultural wise you will find that every nation, no matter how small has a different culture to one another, again in the old days, this ranged from tribe to tribe.
xUK91x 4 months ago
@xUK91x i meant cultural wise, i find it more interesting. however where can something (books, websites) about the culture and history of the times before the foundation of rome?

@xUK91x i meant cultural wise, i find it more interesting. however where can something (books, websites) about the culture and history of the times before the foundation of rome?
GetitUnderCool 4 months ago
@GetitUnderCool Your reading too deeply into it, before the time of literature there was artifacts. Many artifacts of the past have been dug up and with these findings scientists can connect dots of the human races history. Many artifacts connecting to celtic origon have been found throughout Europe and even in Western parts of Russia, older then artifacts dug up from the times of the Romans. Im a history nut when it comes to things like this,it sheds light on our heritage and history of humans.
xUK91x 4 months ago
@xUK91x well the trade can't also explain the presence of those artifact? another thing that really interst me is how was the level of contacts and trade with populations of other cultures, like germanics and greeks.
GetitUnderCool 4 months ago
@GetitUnderCool That I really do not know. The trade with the Greek culture however couldn't have gone too well though. At a certain point they wanted Genocide of the Celtic culture. Germanics though where basically a family culture with the Celtic one, hence why both cultures where influenced heavily by one another. But thats just my opinion on that one.
xUK91x 4 months ago
@xUK91x what do you mean by "genocide"?
GetitUnderCool 4 months ago
@GetitUnderCool I know genocide usually refers to the extinction of a certain race or heritage of people. but i thought I would use it in the sense of wanting the extinction of their culture.
xUK91x 3 months ago
@xUK91x do you refer to the greek colonists in gallia narbonensis? anyway, i don't think they really wanted to actively destroy celtic culture, they only deemed celts "barbarians" just as any non-greek population.
having celts for neighboors wasn't easy. they posed a real threat to your cities and teritories and even if you coud do agreements with bordering tribes there were no guarantee that in the following years they would'nt change their minds about that, and if they didn't
GetitUnderCool 3 months ago
@xUK91x there was always the risk of some other tribe migrating towards your territories and attacking them.
they were unpredictable, pretty much like the germanics. i think that the relationship that celts and germanics had with teriitory was completley different from the one that greeks and romans had.
GetitUnderCool 3 months ago
@GetitUnderCool oh definately, that has been in the human instinct since the dawn of man. We are in all honesty a warring species. Celts and Germanics where shall we say? Uncivilised? In the sense of the Greeks and Romans, the Greeks and Romans heavily frowned upon them for this very simple reason.
xUK91x 3 months ago
@xUK91x i did'nt say they were uncivilised nor anyone can, but it is undeniable that the concept of "state" and territory that germanics had was incompatible with the one that romans and greeks had. coexistence was at least incompatible. Caesar himself noted that celts were not barbarians like he and other romans expected them to be, they were simply different, but they were also a menace to rome.
GetitUnderCool 3 months ago
@GetitUnderCool *follow up to last comment, read that first ;)* It is much theorised that all Celts/Gauls orginate from (ironically) Germany, and the last ice age is what triggered this mass immigration around ancient Europe. So even more technically, even the Romans may have been originally celitc.
xUK91x 4 months ago
@xUK91x the few cultural features that romans, greeks, celts and germanics had in common have been explained with theory of a common indoeuropean orgin. the theory you talk about could work as well, but we are dealing with times in wich scripture was not yet invented, and without written documents it almost impossible to state undeniable facts. however, i think that the term "celtic" is quite generical, and possibly the celtic populations that lived in contact with germanic and italic
GetitUnderCool 4 months ago
Rispondi a questo video... populations were less "celtic" than those who had no contacts with other populations.
GetitUnderCool 4 months ago
@GetitUnderCool You lost me? As in what specific area are we discussing?
xUK91x 4 months ago
@xUK91x well, i was referrring about continental europe, it's were they had contact with other civilizations
GetitUnderCool 4 months ago
@GetitUnderCool oh no, you have to remember the celts where around long before the Romans and such. Before these imaginary borders the human race decided to spawn up to seperate lands from one another. The old Celts where a migrating culture constantly, they travelled even beyond the old Europe. It was only the last ice age that triggered the mass immigration to the West of Europe. Clashes with other civilisations mainly started when the Romans took control of Old Italy.

I wouldnt worry about it really , to say you give up things like being english is a + for you really. Its when you have to give up being Welsh you really are given up something special. But no true Welshman will ever know how that feels, cos A Welshmen could never be anything other, or want to be other than Welsh.

not having a dig, the facts were pretty interesting. It was made a crap load harder to read with a flickering picture in the background though >_>

Your all wrong, when England does something right their called English, then they do something wrong their British.
alyndavies 1 year ago
@alyndavies yeah, thats what i have noticed. and when it comes to such games as say the commonwealth games. england is always in the limelight, whereas wales and scotland are just lightly touched upon.
flashash2k9 1 year ago
