Wow! Beautiful Parrots but i'd go a bit nuts with all of the noises, lol! They are too cute though! One day I'd like to add an African Grey to my home, right now I have a Yellow-sided Green Cheek Conure and he is such a good little guy. He does not yell or squack very much at all. He only does it when it's bed time and he goes into his cage covered with a blanket or on the rare occasion when he feels like it. :D Hahahah! Your guys are funny. :D "La la la la la la!".
I have a green-winged macaw that was abused as a chick. She's missing her right foot and does not know how to preen. She also plucks. When I first got her, she was screaming constantly, bit everything that came her way, and flew at a the drop of a hat. Now she talks, loves to be pet, and adores attention. It's been an extremely rewarding experience.
how loud is your eclectus? Would it be possible to upload a video of just him yelling? I'm planning on getting one in a few years once my life gets settled.
I had a blue crown conure he was a very lovable little guy but he drove me fucking nuts after a few years. I found him a very good home and never ever again will I own a parrot. I will stick with my black labs.
All that sqaucking when I get home from work and need piece an quiet drives me nuts. Glad you are showing people what you have to deal with when you own a parrot or in your case several parrots.
Well I think your cages all look nice and clean and yes the buggers do need time in , even if it is just to clean the mess they make , good on ya , keep up the good work..Yvonne Sydney Australia
I have the same cage the green wing is in. I know they come in different sizes; mine is 9 feet long and I use it as a breeder cage for my congo greys.
they are beautiful. my baby was telling yours to "stop that" when it was screaming. funny as... im lucky with mine as she only runs through noises i like and doesnt scream at all anymore. when she does let a scream out she tells her self to "stop that"...
Good job - don't listen to the people who don't understand. I made the same commitment, now I have nine and I am 21 years old. I love my parrots, wouldn't trade them for any amount of money, but it is hard work!! Your macaw is adorable, my god.. hahaha but loud... My Cockatoo can be loud but luckily she is not really a screamer. remember you are an angel for committing to these birds who would otherwise be shifting from home to home. :o
They are in cages while I am busy doing what needs to be done around the house on a Saturday and cannot watch them. I work full time (probably to support my parrots LOL).
They average 5 hours a day out when I am working. More on the weekends.
It is the price they pay for safety while in captivity. :( I'd love to have an aviary. We are planning one.
@piercesdesigns I have a similar schedual at my house. All but one of my birds is a rescue, and the daytime hours in the cage may seem like a lot, but to all of these birds who lived years with no toys, improper diets and no one to talk to, so I don't think they really mind a few hours in the cage! With toys, the radio and other birds to talk to, they don't seem to mind to much, they all know that come 4 everyone gets play time outside the cage
We have multiple parrots too. We let them out at intervals and only supervised. We learned a pretty hard lesson when our Ecclectus bit off a toe-nail of one of our African Greys.. We felt horrible!! Better to be safe than sorry. :)
My parents are getting a weened blue and gold. We already have a Sun Conure that squacks constantly and that is w/ plenty of attention. Suns, as I am sure you know, are one of the loudest and maybe the loudest of the smaller parrot families. We think we are ready for another and that is why we are trying the weened direction for a more connected feel to the parrot.
One thing I'd like to point out to anyone reading though is all of my parrots are adopted except 2 and I feel very connected to them. Getting a baby does not guarantee a happy ending. Rescues can bond very strongly in their new home.
This is a good way to let everyone know that having an exotic pet is not all fun and games. It is very hard work. It's even harder to be a rescue. And thank God we have animal rescuers in our lives!!!
Its easy to teach them not to scream, and if you have that many birds of course its a lot of cleanup. Having just one or two is less problematic. Still a little noisy at times, but you get use to it to a point. Most people just think of birds as "pretty," and not complex like they are. If you don't engage them, they misbehave, just like any dog.
i worked at a pet boarding facility and we had a constant problem of people leaving the bird to board and never coming back. Some of them were socially abused or neglected. I loved interacting with most of them but it could be very dicey cleaning and feeding, especially this one african grey who was soooooo sneaky. One macaw had learned to imitate my boss & would call my name, fooled me every time!
lol who's going quak quak? There actually nice and quiet - if you want noise you should hear my White eyed conure scream jeez! (Sun conures are almost as bad)
I just love how everyone casts judgement. I was just thinking how clean it all looks and I noticed the climbing springs above their cages, so I know they come out regularly. I have 11 birds at my house including macaw, eclectus, and conures. This is even a little quiet compared to my bunch. They are all out on rotation get fresh fruit and nuts!! I love birds and I see you do to!! Pay no attention to the people who are blindly writing with no idea what you do with your pets.
heres a cool tip for all u parrot lovers and screamer haters
notice how in this video the sound echoes thats becaauuuseee theres no cotton furniture in there. u see couches and chairs and blankets on the ground as well as some on the walls - and towels/paper towels bundled up and placed at the bottom of there cage- on the outside. and dont keep more than two birds in a room this small. it just makes anarchy...
The room is not small, BTW. It is 10x13. Their cages are smaller. I see you own a parrotlet. Big difference between that and macaws. Perhaps you should mature and not go around leaving immature comments?
how is that an immature comment? its not even hate that is directed at you. its just a tip to quiet down there screaming. sofas and blankets absorb the sound. i was just giving a tip to help quiet down a house. and btw i own one parrotlet and 1 black capped conure along with a green cheek conure. and i work at a pet store that sells amazons African grays and some macaws. so relax. i was just telling how to quiet down the house. pms much?
They are so cute! I was expecting more noise from 2 macaws and 2 other parrots:) I have an African grey and lovebirds. The only thing that stops me from getting more birds is that I dont have my own house yet and I just rent it.
Do you let them out of cages all together? How do they get along?
Typically the birds are all out at the same time but only the cockatiels are together. Birds are very territorial and big birds such as macaws can kill smaller birds easily.
love the birds i hve had birds/parrots most of my life there thegreatest if you have the time and love to give thim people think that they can go to petco and just bring home a parrot that will talk and do all the cute tricks nd most dont have a clue about the other side of them i love them so much your birds are great
i agree. i am getting a bird thursday well tomarrow and i am so exited. she is a beutiful blue indian ringneck parrot that a lady offered me. the lady is an animal lover but she owns a resteraunt so she doesnt have time for birds. i have had a canarry a lovebird parakeets and a conure i love birds (mainly parrots)
True, they are a commitment. Im only a teenager, but i know.
I suggest if anyone REALLY wants a parrot, tey should get a parrotlet. They are the smallest species of parrot, only the size of a budgie, and they cant make loud noises, they are usually very quiet. Also they live up to 20 years at the most, while these brids usually live longer than you. I have one and hes sweetheart. :D
Nico, it is a personal choice to clip wings. I prefer to keep mine flighted after they are used to their surroundings. However, if there are dangers in the home or the bird insists on flying into areas that are unsafe it is occasionally safer to clip.
They don't mind it at all. It's exactly the same as your cage. The lave and attention they get with a good owner lets them enjoy an excellent quality of life...And food is so much easier to come by. Well, actually it's plentiful in the wild as well.
I was on the fence about clipping my Meyers Parrots wings. However when the sweetest blue crown conure showed up at my door, I began to see the value in it. My conure is handtame, sweet, smart, loving....and it got away from its owners. I would hate to be the owner that lost such a great fid.
Great idea, when people who have no clue get birds they are often shocked by how noisy they are. I had a friend of mine recently suggest that if my quaker Sid could just be de-squawked he would be a great pet. Too bad you couldn't have also shown some of the rest of the work that goes into having a parrot.
i love how your eclectus is just chilling there like .. yeahhh i'm too mature for this. haha just kidding. i have a caique. but i have always wanted an eclectus. yours is obviously a male. maybe you could tell me more about them?
I have a b/g maccaw who is 18 now and the noise doesnt bother me she doesnt shout or screech she is past that stage and just has the occassional SQUACK now and then lol which shocks the cat off the chair lol when hes fast asleep, you have lovely birds and they are very lucky ++++
To the person who says that only one wouldn't be so bad? I have ONE Galerita.I sweep three times a day, I always have a mop bucket going. We spend 3-4 hours a day one-on-one with him, playing, talking, training, hanging out. He flings food, toys & anything he can get his beak on across the room, the floor.I love him, but he can screech at about 120 decibles.& he does. This is what they do.If someone wants a parrot that doesn't make noise, mess get a Sqwaker McCaw LOL!
maybe if there was only one parrot there wont be too much of a competion of "LA LA LA"s or "QUACK QUACK"s because they seem to be fighting whos loudest to get more attention
Great video but most people arnt looking to jump into getting those kind of birds or that many. Im sure they are the people that think oh cool parrots talk im getting one so if this is you DO NOT get a parrot of any size. Every parrot is noisy my Alexandrine ringneck makes a very loud screech when he sees someone new small birds can make a big noise to so watch out
You do a wonderful job keeping the room and cages clean. It's wonderful to see these birds so well cared-for, especially as, if many of them are rescues you're fostering, they most likely wouldn't have been this well cared-for in their previous homes. We have an adopted macaw and adore him.
Eclectus can be just as loud as any other parrot. Our two are actually louder than the macaws when a stranger walks in. They let out repeated "air-horn" noises to warn everyone in the vicinity that there is DANGER! FLY AWAY!
You could do a little something about the acoustics in that room...it seems to not have anything absorbant of sound in it which makes it very loud and echoey if that's even a word.
yA i totally agree with you. i have a baby greenwing and a umbrella cockatoo there arent oud at all i mean maybe for 30secs but they dont do what you greenwing does. i spend over 300 a month on my birds just for toys food and other supplies. my greenwing and umbie have a huge 1800 flight cage in my garge filled with toys perches, rope perches, swings, blank's and everything else bird. i do have the garge climatized for them but yeah there VERY spendy.....but its so worth it. ( =
This brave person has more than one large bird, but even with one large macaw or cockatoo can need a large time commitment on your part. They can sometimes need over $300 a month alone if they are active and chew their wood toys to pieces. If they get sick, they need to be taken to an Avian Veternarian, not always the same one that cats and dogs visit. This can sometimes cost thousands of dollars for your "baby". Are you sure that you can afford the expense and the time? Think about it.
I love my parrots too. :) I just think people need to be prepared for the "other stuff" that goes along with parrots. We see so many get put into rescue because they are "too loud, too messy, too needy", etc
:) That's like a quiet day at our house. We live with adopted cockatoos- ppl that visit us actually cover their ears and wince. We have to go outside to have serious conversation or use the phone. The mess is unbelievable. I have a pic of what we sweep off the floor every single day- a PILE of debris from toys and food and feathers/dander and poop--people can't believe it.
This is to cute to me LOL This is Deb right? Deb I will call you soon. Thanks SO much for helping us with theEbay non-profit site... We are all set up now. I have had so much duty this week. Will call you soon. Thanks again! Your awsome. love the Quack, Quack heh
This made my bird STOP his chewing and listen! Joey is an 18 month old Alexandrine. It was sooo funny he is totally intrigued. This is a great reminder about the commitment you have to make to the big parrots, if you don't have the time for a child then don't get a parrot! At least you can get health care for a child :)
This is great. My 8 month old daughter is amazed. Our eclectus (brother and sister red sided) are answering your birds from the other room. Can't wait to show this to my 2.5 year old daughter.
I am so glad someone came up with this, maybe you could show how destructive they can be, as well as, noisy. You're birds are amazingly quiet, our place sounds like Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom most days. Thanks for the great vid.
We love watching your videos with our parrots. They listen intently and respond. Our Macaw learned to quack from yours and taught our CAG - they quack back and forth now!
Great job you are doing with your birds and rescue. Kudos!
Thank you for posting this! Most people don't have a clue what it is owning a parrot! This video may help them realize that it is a SERIOUS commitment!
You should offer your parrot 12 - 14 different fresh, organic (if available) veggies and fruits daily, grains and sprouts and just a very few nuts.
You should set aside a large area for a play area and very large cage - play area consisting of a large climbing area and swings and boing and toy box and play box and jolly ball and foraging tree.
The cost: About $2,000 - $3,000 a year for a macaw(toys, vet, food, babysitter, bottled water, etc.) More if vet bills get high.
Time: 8 hours a day (cleaning food prep, training, playing, setting up foraging, planning recreation, cuddling)
Unless you can provide this, do not get a parrot. I have seen so many parrots self-mutilate because their owners couldn't give them attention. It's not pretty.
How many parrots do you have? I have 5 avian companions and I can definitely relate! They are noisy, messy, funny, moody and sweet, all at the same time! Gotta luv 'em!
Love it! Great for people considering buying a parrot. They are much more than a pretty colored thing sitting in a cage. The are intelligent, loud, attention craving living beings. Like your wall color too :)
Its the best kind of household I think lol ;P

You've got a great set-up, and wonderful birds. I love the noise, myself, and I have 5 of the little sweeties myself.

I have a b/g maccaw who is 18 now and the noise doesnt bother me she doesnt shout or screech she is past that stage and just has the occassional SQUACK now and then lol which shocks the cat off the chair lol when hes fast asleep, you have lovely birds and they are very lucky ++++

Wow!you've got your hands full
To the person who says that only one wouldn't be so bad? I have ONE Galerita.I sweep three times a day, I always have a mop bucket going. We spend 3-4 hours a day one-on-one with him, playing, talking, training, hanging out. He flings food, toys & anything he can get his beak on across the room, the floor.I love him, but he can screech at about 120 decibles.& he does. This is what they do.If someone wants a parrot that doesn't make noise, mess get a Sqwaker McCaw LOL!

lol!
LA LA LA LAAAAAAA
well, they dont seem too bad
maybe if there was only one parrot there wont be too much of a competion of "LA LA LA"s or "QUACK QUACK"s because they seem to be fighting whos loudest to get more attention

My eclectus Eago screams as loud as he can when we go joy riding. Its cute but LOUD!
EagoTheEkkie 4 years ago 2
Great video but most people arnt looking to jump into getting those kind of birds or that many. Im sure they are the people that think oh cool parrots talk im getting one so if this is you DO NOT get a parrot of any size. Every parrot is noisy my Alexandrine ringneck makes a very loud screech when he sees someone new small birds can make a big noise to so watch out
somegirlonthefloor 4 years ago
I agree, even our little lorikeets can (and do) make enough noise to get complaints from the neighbors 2 house down!

I'm so glad there's people like you still around that love and take care of these guys. They're absolutely amazing.
SevenStar07 4 years ago 2
You do a wonderful job keeping the room and cages clean. It's wonderful to see these birds so well cared-for, especially as, if many of them are rescues you're fostering, they most likely wouldn't have been this well cared-for in their previous homes. We have an adopted macaw and adore him.
susanreneewa 4 years ago
Why do you have Eclectus for tags? We have two family Eclectus' and they are incredibly quiet, this video gives a bad name to the specie.
Bajamug 4 years ago
Eclectus can be just as loud as any other parrot. Our two are actually louder than the macaws when a stranger walks in. They let out repeated "air-horn" noises to warn everyone in the vicinity that there is DANGER! FLY AWAY!

You said so you want A parrot...not, so you want five parrots!!!

Ask anyone who lives with even one cockatoo...they make my house sound like a quiet rest home. LOL
piercesdesigns 4 years ago
You could do a little something about the acoustics in that room...it seems to not have anything absorbant of sound in it which makes it very loud and echoey if that's even a word.
sodacoaster 4 years ago
yA i totally agree with you. i have a baby greenwing and a umbrella cockatoo there arent oud at all i mean maybe for 30secs but they dont do what you greenwing does. i spend over 300 a month on my birds just for toys food and other supplies. my greenwing and umbie have a huge 1800 flight cage in my garge filled with toys perches, rope perches, swings, blank's and everything else bird. i do have the garge climatized for them but yeah there VERY spendy.....but its so worth it. ( =

Your birds are wonderfully vocal!
AngelPapillon 4 years ago
This brave person has more than one large bird, but even with one large macaw or cockatoo can need a large time commitment on your part. They can sometimes need over $300 a month alone if they are active and chew their wood toys to pieces. If they get sick, they need to be taken to an Avian Veternarian, not always the same one that cats and dogs visit. This can sometimes cost thousands of dollars for your "baby". Are you sure that you can afford the expense and the time? Think about it.

I love my parrots too. :) I just think people need to be prepared for the "other stuff" that goes along with parrots. We see so many get put into rescue because they are "too loud, too messy, too needy", etc
piercesdesigns 4 years ago
:) That's like a quiet day at our house. We live with adopted cockatoos- ppl that visit us actually cover their ears and wince. We have to go outside to have serious conversation or use the phone. The mess is unbelievable. I have a pic of what we sweep off the floor every single day- a PILE of debris from toys and food and feathers/dander and poop--people can't believe it.

Can't wait to show this to my 2.5 year old daughter.
ekkiegirl 5 years ago
I am so glad someone came up with this, maybe you could show how destructive they can be, as well as, noisy. You're birds are amazingly quiet, our place sounds like Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom most days. Thanks for the great vid.
andrewfole 5 years ago
We love watching your videos with our parrots. They listen intently and respond. Our Macaw learned to quack from yours and taught our CAG - they quack back and forth now!
Great job you are doing with your birds and rescue. Kudos!

Thank you for posting this! Most people don't have a clue what it is owning a parrot! This video may help them realize that it is a SERIOUS commitment!
Take care and thanks again!

You should offer your parrot 12 - 14 different fresh, organic (if available) veggies and fruits daily, grains and sprouts and just a very few nuts.
You should set aside a large area for a play area and very large cage - play area consisting of a large climbing area and swings and boing and toy box and play box and jolly ball and foraging tree.
dominiquehoward 5 years ago
The cost: About $2,000 - $3,000 a year for a macaw(toys, vet, food, babysitter, bottled water, etc.) More if vet bills get high.
Time: 8 hours a day (cleaning food prep, training, playing, setting up foraging, planning recreation, cuddling)
Unless you can provide this, do not get a parrot. I have seen so many parrots self-mutilate because their owners couldn't give them attention. It's not pretty.

Love it! Great for people considering buying a parrot. They are much more than a pretty colored thing sitting in a cage. The are intelligent, loud, attention craving living beings. Like your wall color too :)
