So sad that so many don't understand this piece. Hopefully those that do just couldn't find the words to express themselves. I only wish I could have found this in myself earlier. Lillian Olivia will be loved and cherished from the moment she is conceived. :)
This is absolutely amazing :) I know I'll never meet you, Miles, but I do know that you're wonderful, and one day a girl will finally realize how wonderful you are and never let you go. I'll only say that I'm straight, and I would love to get to know you -- you're talented and genuine and a very handsome guy. :]
he is beautiful. and i think i am falling in love with his names, and now i want them for my future children: miles and olivia (but not lillian because only his daughter could ever be lillian).
I still don't get it though. Why would he name his own child after a name that he's hated for years? I mean, after being called an improper name and being humiliated by your family with that, won't you just cringe for the rest of your life at that one name and think to yourself "....Oh. I remember those times...shit fuckers." So yeah I would NEVER give my child a name i've hated with a passion for as long as I can remember. To me that makes no sense at all. Why tourture yourself any longer? :-/
@TheSnowyice I'm keeping my name for my future daughter. It's a promise that it wasn't a name given then abused. It's a promise that someday, someone I love will have this name, and it will be them.
@TomasJames93 Yeah, I guess I kind of feel that way about my middle name. Especially since it was passed down from my great grandma, so I do value that. :-)
Wow I wonder what my future kids will think of me and my future wife. They'll probably be all like "Huh, kind of weird." Like, when my daughter hits puberty she would have to talk to her dad (me) about it and vise versa if we have a son, which we will no doubt. That is just one extremely abnormal factor of having transgender parents! xD lol But of course they would still love us and look up to us. I intend to be a really good parent after all, and that's all that really matters.
@maggieisbeautiful lol I thought the same thing. But then again most people like him and I will most likely adopt, so we can pick out specificly which children we want. =3
wow, that was so beautiful, just like him, and im not talking about what he looks like on the outside (but he is so cute) but how emotional, and passionate it was. I just fell in love with his daughter, even though Ive never met her either, she is the luckiest person in the world to have a father like him.
Wow...this piece is so powerful. Can't wait to work with you at INtermedia Arts. You are a beast...we'll talk and find some ways to make it happen..ttys
"She"? Really? I mean, REALLY? This poem is so obviously about a trans guy who doesn't identify with his assigned gender or name, but is keeping the name HE was given sacred for his future daughter. Did you LISTEN to the poem?

I listened to the poem on here and once before in person. She can call herself whatever she wants to. She may feel like a man and call herself a man but to me she will always be a woman. Don't get me wrong. I totally respect the lifestyle and the feelings that come with being who they are but I'm just not ready to call her a man. I'd rather call her a her instead of an it which to me is an insult. Call me an inconsiderate asshole but that's just how I see it. I don't want this to seem negative.
What makes a man a man and a woman a woman? Gender is an ever-evolving social construct. It can be a process for some people, a transition for others, and sometimes a wishy-washy thing that people like to putz with and there's nothing wrong with that. Others, like you, might have a more traditional and ingrained view, but please be more open-minded about the fluidity of gender. Sex does not imply gender and vice versa. I suggest you think a little bit before spewing comments like that.
@WillGdaFather No... that is a guy, named Miles. He's trans. Again, did you listen to the poem? He was given a name and assigned gender at birth and no longer identifies as that gender or with that name. He's holding his former middle name, Olivia, for his future daughter. Seriously... actually listen to the poem.
@ThursdayTheNext HEY dammit!!! Dont u EVER correct me again or i'll make sure ur baby toe nails rots from fungus over the next 4 decades... I'm j/k. U're prob right tho. But I like the poem nonetheless.
That was BEAUTIFUL. Now I know what to do with my names.
