The viewing figures of the 1985 final will never be equalled because of the robotic way snooker is being played these days, one chance and a 80+ break follows. Only rarely do you get a match with pressure and atmosphere these days. the 2006 world final was probably the last.

Good research Ian - The thing is,even if the 2010 World Final wnet to a decider it would probably only draw 6-7 million viewers tops or a 1/3 of the 85 Final figure - The casual fans dropped off in the early 90s when the bland Hendry,Bond,McManus types were coming through & ITV cancelling their ranking event coverage - However,the standard of snooker play itself has never been higher & as competitive than it is now,with 8-10 players capable of winning events!

He is not a legend however because many people (more than 10) have won the world snooker championship once and credit should be given to them as well for e.g. very good snooker players are peter ebdon, ken doherty, graeme dott, shaun murphy are some who have won it once like dennis.
