  • Snooker on TV has never been the same since the old guard of players and commentators have retired or passed away.

  • i will dislike this dispite that he is a great player... just because his glasses are frekin huge!

  • special glasses make you win!

  • those glass are outrageous lol!

  • back in the days when sportsmen had character and real emotion!

  • How much money did he get?

  • This is why Steve Davis never won the world title. Shame really, he was the best player never to have won it.

  • @JohnRagoon Steve Davis won the world title 6 times you idiot. You're thinking of Jimmy White.

  • @creditcrunchthis never heard of him!. Are you sure youre even talking about darts?.

  • @JohnRagoon Where does darts come into this? This is a snooker video! Jimmy White is a snooker player, a great one, but never won the World Championship. Steve Davis, however, won it 6 times, I have no idea where you pulled darts out of

  • @creditcrunchthis Funny you should mention pulling darts. I went for double top the other night in a match and pulled the dart into double 18, i then hit double two for the match. I was playing against a fellow called Micky White...maybe hes a relation of this Jimmy you are typing about? .

  • @JohnRagoon My brain just kerploded.

  • @creditcrunchthis HA CONTRADICTIVE CUNT!!!

  • @pistolpeeroy Tell me exactly where I contradicted myself.

  • such a likeable guy taylor

  • How with respect was Taylor only 36 here ? Looked about 50

  • @kenfig lol was he really only 36?

  • @bansheewhiskey YEAH ! Straight up, honestly.He looks younger NOW !! Lol

  • This exact same video is on the World Championship Snooker 2004 game.

  • Davis and Taylor "replayed" the frame at the championship this year (as an exhibition) and there were both hilarious as expected.

  • I used to get fed up with this snooker shit,It was usually on about fookin 5 times every late afternoon/evening on bbc2 5 days a week snooker snooker snooker snooker/news/ snooker snooker, snooker, end of bbc broadcast.Next day, children tv,open uni,news,break/snooker, snooker, snooker, snooker fuck me.

  • Amazing match never forget it.... hey keep a look out for Jose Mourinho at 0:38 secs getting involved in the celebrations!!

  • @mojoward lol funny

  • At the end of the match almost every house in my street was still lit up. Nearly everyone had stayed up till the early hours to watch the final frame.

  • Another interesting statistic in this final was that there were no century breaks. The highest being 98 by Taylor in the second session.

  • Characters in snooker were plentyful in the 1970's-80's and there were many classic rivalries too, but they lacked the break building masterclasses of the players today, thats what made snooker exciting. The viewing figures of the 1985 final will never be equalled because of the robotic way snooker is being played these days, one chance and a 80+ break follows. Only rarely do you get a match with pressure and atmosphere these days. the 2006 world final was probably the last.

  • Final frame shot outs in world finals are extremely rare. There have only been 5 in the tournaments 83 years.

  • Good research Ian - The thing is,even if the 2010 World Final wnet to a decider it would probably only draw 6-7 million viewers tops or a 1/3 of the 85 Final figure - The casual fans dropped off in the early 90s when the bland Hendry,Bond,McManus types were coming through & ITV cancelling their ranking event coverage - However, the standard of snooker play itself has never been higher & as competitive than it is now, with 8-10 players capable of winning events!

  • The greatest & most viewed snooker match ever at 18.5 million (apparently) - The Final itself was also in a pivotal period of snooker's expansion in the mid 1980s when numerous other tournaments were being added to the calendar & TV schedueles.

  • dennis taylor once came to Norway and he stopped by to play few frames at my local pub! cool

  • Classic! One of Northern Ireland's proudest sporting moments.

  • ONLY proud sporting moment innit

  • Well apart from beating England.....Healy's hat-trick against Spain....and erm think that's it really. Not much of a resume but it'll have to do.

  • Hehe yeah. Thanks for the good-natured reply. I must admit I sighed when I got the notification because I thought it was gonna be somebody flaming me; such is the nature of this site!

  • Nope that's not me, totally not in my character to do that, couldn't find a reason to do so =)

  • i would have missed that black!!

  • Taylor hated contacts. His eyes fogged up all the time....

    Classic moment in sport...

  • today you would wear contact lens

  • did somebody tell him that he was wearing glasses upside down?

  • Thats Snooker Glasses, you wear them that way!

  • lol

  • Dennis looks really funny with those specs! , a good player though.

  • He is not a legend however because many people (more than 10) have won the world snooker championship once and credit should be given to them as well for e.g. very good snooker players are peter ebdon, ken doherty, graeme dott, shaun murphy are some who have won it once like dennis.

  • IC, Marcel Luske did steal the glasses-upside_down from Dennis..

  • Taylor used to wear contact lenses but ditched them for these glasses in 1984 in a season which he had to make the world semis to remain in the top 16.

  • I dont have anything against people who wear glasses ,I've just noticed they were big and funny..but it's his choice and if it makes him see better then it's fine:)

  • he is a great player indeed, but he looks funny with those HUGE glasses:))..but he played great;)

  • He has the glasses so big and upside down for a reason no doubt. I know all to well how difficult it is to play with glasses that are not big enough. And no glasses which look good are big enough, I assure you. :-)

  • they are large to the topside so he can look up across the full table when cueing...........obviously!

  • it was good snooker and very good tv

dry up, you like the osmonds what would you know

  • well considering i used to play some of these guys on the exhibition circuit i'd know a fair bit.

yeh that's right, when these guys used to tour the country certain county/league players like myself would be called up to play them.

No, Taylor was not a great player, Davis, Thorburn, White, Griffiths, they were great 80's players

  • Then surely you would have liked to be in Taylors boots that night. Black ball finish.

Big game and a great night for an underdog

And anyway, you can't read... i never said he was a great player. i said "it was good snooker and very good tv".

  • dennis moves like a child lol

  • does anyone ave a clip of when dennis aylor and willie thorne are commentating and dennis falls over and grabs willies tie and nearly chokes him its so funny

  • hes well chuffed

  • A great moment from two great players, arguably the greatest world championship ever.Just one small note on your description though, the black was not a respotted black

  • higgins should have had him shot?

what the hell are you talking about lad.

  • Stfu u absolute twat.

Go make use of your IQ of 60 and play with some lego.

    fuckin asshat.

  • Remember my mam and dad allowed me to stay up and watch this. Good memories

  • It was nice to see Steve Davis gutted! Well done Dennis.

  • Can you post the chat that David Vine has with the two players straight after this,Davis looks so gutted.

  • Classic match, but Steve is the real legend.

  • jose mourinho hugs deenis taylor on 00:38

  • lmao!

  • hahahaha

  • buhahahhahaa

  • classic sports moment - thanks!
