dirty fucking white ppl why couldnt your asses just died off in europe you true wetbacks...things would be much pure and peaceful for the true indiginous ppl..that includes the aztecs, natives, maya, inca ect.
Most of Europe back in the 1300s was filthy because of the crowded streets in towns, the overflowing sewers and millions of people living in poverty but things have changed since then. That was more than 800 years ago for gods sake so stop calling Europeans filthy you stupid Americans! One thing I hate about Americans is how lazy, fat and ignorant most of them are!
LMFAO at the Americans saying "Europeans are dirty" or "Europeans are dumbasses" you imbeciles realise that if your a white person then during the 14th century your ancestors were in Europe at the time right?... BTW nice choice of soundtrack from "Interview with the Vampire" if I am not mistaken.
Rats and fleas! pah! look at Iceland, they had no rats or fleas due to the cold so there fore yersina pestis could not have been the factor, but still the black death got them... its only of recint times that bubonic plague is the blame, where as the evidence of the time, (black deaths reign) says other wise..plus the time from infection to death is longer with the black death [up to 37 days] than the bubonic plague {5 days or so}, which with long time frame caused the rapid spread of the virus
To Marmalade000000,I think your exaggerating. To Soldierman345,the reason why the swine flu is nothing compared to the black death, because of modern technology,we're aware of the dangers of viruses and prevent it from spreading.
This is the generally accepted theory of how the Black Death spread through Europe but there is one major flaw: black rats which host the fleas that distribute the bacteria were not common in most European countries at the time. Furthermore, the outbreak spread much faster than what is today known to be the typical spreading pattern of the Yersinia pestis bacillus. So there seems to have been at least another agent at work causing this disaster.
this is what happens when you live in your own crap, The truth is after they made sewer's the sickniss went away and every one was healthy. they went in all the streets and used brooms to sweep all the crap out of the streets then they built sewer's then they all lived happily ever after.
are u really that dumb!? seriously!!!!!!!!!! the plauge started because you know how they went to the bathroom back then!!!!!!! they shit in a bucket and when it was full they screamed "heads up" and then there was crap on the ground for rats to roll in it and people touched them and stuff and the plauge started. my point is that eourapeans are fkin dumbasses!
The ending was stupid. The plague was formed because people were so damn dirty,it spread because there was no serious effort to contain it, and it continued for so long because there was no scientists, instead they just prayed and started killing each other. There's no danger of history repeating itself and getting a new plague.
@muimrm Maybe not the black death, But something else can come up: Viruses mutate , Staph bacteria has been known to develop a resistance to antibiotics, illegal aliens sneek over carrying god knows what an belive it or not .....a lot of people are still pretty gross. I 've had to cancel fast food orders because they have been sneezed on by the person preparing them. Nature finds a way an death is a shrewed old bastard,
Agreed. the reason it killed millions of europeans but not many in asia is because the europeans were so goddam dirty. Egyptians were around thousands of years earlier and were cleaner.... they even had plumbing!!

thus.. bacteria and virusen, and the micro-organisms that become existant every passing day and hour, are just degenerations and evolutions of other existant bacteria, it's like we humans say that every mind and character is unique, bacteria can vary just as much, so you can say that the black plague virus was just a VERY dangerous one, as for the fleas... how come we humans get a disease? it happens! i'm not a doctor, but i'm willing to ask a friend of mine who knows more of this

Its a bacteria not a virus bro ask the rats that lived in filthy sewers where they might have come across a nasty bacteria and you will see your error
the thing is the fleas would easilly carry the virus as they, like mosquitos, survived on blood. even if the rats didnt have the disease it would of still spread, i've researched into this a bit and what i could say is that it was first found by the mongols and was used as a weapon in the battle of caffa. a main european port in the east, and from that it spread. the rats may of made it faster to spread, but the bacteria itself could be spread by even breathing.
we must take this era into context, the word bacteria or virus did not exist. since science wasnt the main focus, many people belived that whatever happened was under god or the Catholic church. oviously minorities such as jews, gipsies, muslims, heretics etc would be accused of the plague because people belived the plague was a punishment by god and not a bacterial disease
100% correct, but i do think that the people who NOW say that it were the jews etc. and that it's why hitler took vengeance during ww2 etc... should get their nuts chopped off with a blunt rusty spoon :P
The picture in 0:48 was a docter. They wore those to cover up the smell of the dying patients there was this substance in the beak that he was wearing that covered up the smell. They also wore a long robe to keep the bacteria off of them. If I'm incorect someone please correct me I read that out of a book.
Wrong... it's a symbolisation of "Death" another folkloristic way of drawing death, sort of a synonimous drawing to "the grim reaper" (u mean 0:50-0:51 right?)
Amercians... You don't know what the hell is the black death... You might have learned it in school but you don't know what the F**k it did to people in 1348. It almost whiped out Britan then. It hited London in 1348, then it traveled right across Mid England In 1349 and effect there. Then it travled to Wales in 1249 around in Summer. Scotland In 1350 and to iland. BTW good video :)
it wiped out most of norway too :( it traveld from england to Bergen (norwegian port town) and from there spread. nasty fucking thing, and we already have a problem, just look at the aids today, yeah sure we had it back then too but its more spread now, its a vicious cycle
We're taught that those things happened... or at least, i was... seriously do you know what we learn? Sorry, you don't. And you need to work on your grammar...
how come you replied to me? sure my grammar sucks, idk how much you know about this or how much americans learn, but you gotta agree that America is a country that wants to praise itself and their christian beleifs disrupts a lot of their learning (im not saying EVERYONE) but i have heard of a few cases where this is actually true
Well, we have special schools here for people who feel that religion belongs in the classroom, and those are Catholic Schools, or whatever they feel like calling each one based on different religions. Most of us go to public schools, in which we only learn about religion as it has its effect on history(ie. The crusades, The Spanish Inquisition, etc.) Even then, we don't really learn much about it. Okay, before I go any further, I need to point out that my reply was not to you, it was to maxbl1.
Yea, and there was no such thing as English Americans back then. lol Americans as we know today originated from England incase you didn't know that. :/
my family came from London...some how we survived...BUT not all Americans came from England...(which is an awesome country by the way!!) We are known a the great melting pot...people come from Everywhere!! ;-P I love History!!
it means it struck, it attacked. its a verb that describes an action which doesnt have to be physical but paints a picture of how hard somthing has either attacked or crashed upon somthing
hudson19947, the fleas were tradject but it also provieded good. we wouldn't be living the way we are know if it never happened, the feudal system would probably still be together, so there would be a high class, middle class and peasents class.
Correct. With no antibiotics and attempts to cure the illness that did much more harm than good, the mortality rate was anywhere between 90% and 100%. There must have been truly apocalyptic scenes at the height of the epidemic, with bodies piled and left rotting in the streets. Vast areas were left completely uninhabited. The demographic impact is being felt to this day, 660 years later.
Yes, that's absolutely right. Most experts still say the Black Death was a mix of bubonic and pneumonic plagues striking simultaneously. The point of the sceptics is that the currently known spreading pattern of Yersinia pestis, the agent known to cause the illness, does not conform with the overwhelming speed and violence the 14th century chronicles describe. But then the population of the time did not have any immunity and was already in a dire health state due to famines and other illnesses.
The plague actually appeared in Europe much earlier than that, during the Roman times, and then disappeared, only to come back with a vengeance. It's still a mystery why it came and went, and why it was gone for good in Europe by the 18th century. Some scientists even question that what struck Europe in 1347 was bubonic plague as its spreading pattern did not correspond with what is known about it today. Some think it may have been an Ebola-like virus.
And the fact is that we were around 170k before the Black Death, and after losing about 1/3 in the plague and many more in succeding epidemics, around 90k was left..
to wish this plague on the entire planet because you are an arrogant fanatic...be careful what you wish for you may not be as innocent as you think, shockate. yes I too believe the plague was Karma...look at how many times the vatican has been spanked or england...they have centuries of Karma to pay for.
From time to time a purge must hapend, takeing with it all thoes sinners. That is how i see it, i hope it will hapend again all over the planet. The great purge.
No, it was spreading because people did not know about it, but now media (tv radio and internet) can wanr us about it and stay indors in case it shows up. Contatc with an other person will make u sick, if u dont touch or breath close to them you are ok. (i think :D )
Actually it was a bacteria not a virus. Thus, it can be treated with antibiotics. That is of course, if one is a nasty-ass who doesn't bathe (Which they all were back then). Proper sanitation an hygine can prevent a person from getting the disease in the first place. A virus however cannot be treated. Even today with all of our medical advancements they can't cure viruses..not even the common cold. Rent the movie Outbreak somtime.
They do however have vaccines for some viruses. Such as rabies, chicken pox, small pox and polio. Hell, even the flu-shot. But unfortunately not all. The movie Out break I mentioned, is about The Ebola Virus. If you think the plague is nasty, Ebola is worse. Your organs literally become liquid. (I know my spelling sucks..sorry).
speakupforjusttice is pretty right in that the bubonic ws around before the actual Pandemic, but that the Black Death was a worst case senario 1/3 of the world's humans died in those years
Black Death was not endemic- meaning it wasn't around all the time but stayed dormant. So therefore the sequels many years later can not be included in the Black Death episode.
Contrary to what some of the comments say, common consensus among historians pick Black Death occurring between the dates you posted in the vid. The bubonic plague has been around before the Black Death, but never in that same intensity. Black Death was it's own epidemic from other centuries of plague (like the plagues in England-it reached england much later, but was of a diff. strain)
I have always seen the 'plague doctors' as an eerie symbolic image of the black death...their odd outfits and creepy masks...it's cool now, but just imagine the fear and pain it caused back then.
You know what the masks were for right? They would put flower petals in the beaks, thinking that the nice smell would protect them. Before Koch's germ theory of disease in 1800s most people believed diseases were spread by bad smells in the air (miasma).
The 1st plague lasted 50 years and killed 30-50% of the earth's population. It reappeared sporadicly for the next 3 centurys. Fix the fucking date dipshit....
Ok...first off I know it may be hard for you to use correct language, but try. However I reviewed my research and the dates on this video are correct. You May look it up in the source "The Western Heritage" a college textbook. The plague you are referring to is actually a different topic. If you have any further information to support yours I would be willing to change mine. Thanks.
Sorry to be an asshole, cocksucker. The western Heritage is 20 years old, my proffessor would not use it. The Black Death is synonymous with the Bubonic Plague, which is widely believed to have been the cause.
Regarding the exact dates of the Black Death; its controversial because the original outbreak was followed by several further outbreaks. Whether you count these as part of the Black Death or sequels to it is open to debate.
However if you are really are asshole as you acknowledge in your last post (and I'm not one to disagree with such an authority, you certainly seem to have the traits) then this won't matter too much.
Otherwise a nice and atmospheric gallery on a dark piece of history.
you must not understand epidemiology that well, Black Death was a different episode to other cases of Bubonic Plague. The reason why it reappeared sporadicly was b/c it was different episodes. Not the ONE episode of bubonic plague named the Black Death.
Do you work for the CDC if you know it so well? Any organism can evolve and mutate to suit its' needs. As we all know Bacteria and Viral infections do this very well. I bet they had a VERY similar make up. Why exactly was it so different? Your message was somewhat confusing...
You're a fucking 'tard. I never said they chose to mutate; no oraganism can do that. That happens through Natural Selection, I suggest reading up on it. Your grammar sucks balls. Learn how to commicate in coherent structures.
There is a staff infection going around right now that is immune to antibiotics. It was on the news this week. A 12 year-old kid died of it. I sure hope the center for disease control is on top of this.
ya now u pull the immature child-like card on me now huh, the way uyou said it made it sound like you were saying they choose to become immune, and yes I know about natural selection so you can getoutta ma face idiot
I never said in any way that you misspelled "Grammar"
You misunderstood what I said a few months back, but it was no reason to flame me in such a way
I said something like this:
'The organisms could not evolve by choice'--- which implied that I was talking about Natural Selection--- then you flame me in a child-like manner and suggest that my stupid- self read about it

The bright side of black death is that while people rotted the animal kingdom started to regain itself from man's idiocy.
So it was a positive increase for the animals that were hunted down for no need, like wolves for example.

BTW good video :)
maxbl1 3 years ago
it wiped out most of norway too :( it traveld from england to Bergen (norwegian port town) and from there spread. nasty fucking thing, and we already have a problem, just look at the aids today, yeah sure we had it back then too but its more spread now, its a vicious cycle
Wigtilo 3 years ago
We're taught that those things happened... or at least, i was... seriously do you know what we learn? Sorry, you don't. And you need to work on your grammar...
un0m3asa13ah 3 years ago
how come you replied to me? sure my grammar sucks, idk how much you know about this or how much americans learn, but you gotta agree that America is a country that wants to praise itself and their christian beleifs disrupts a lot of their learning (im not saying EVERYONE) but i have heard of a few cases where this is actually true
Wigtilo 3 years ago
Well, we have special schools here for people who feel that religion belongs in the classroom, and those are Catholic Schools, or whatever they feel like calling each one based on different religions. Most of us go to public schools, in which we only learn about religion as it has its effect on history(ie. The crusades, The Spanish Inquisition, etc.) Even then, we don't really learn much about it. Okay, before I go any further, I need to point out that my reply was not to you, it was to maxbl1.
un0m3asa13ah 2 years ago
Yeah and like you fucking know. It happened almost 700 years ago, you just learned it in school too asshole.

this is fucking disgusting!
sk8dude1006 3 years ago
The demographic impact is being felt to this day, 660 years later.
istvanklein 3 years ago
Yes, that's absolutely right. Most experts still say the Black Death was a mix of bubonic and pneumonic plagues striking simultaneously. The point of the sceptics is that the currently known spreading pattern of Yersinia pestis, the agent known to cause the illness, does not conform with the overwhelming speed and violence the 14th century chronicles describe. But then the population of the time did not have any immunity and was already in a dire health state due to famines and other illnesses.
istvanklein 3 years ago
The plague actually appeared in Europe much earlier than that, during the Roman times, and then disappeared, only to come back with a vengeance. It's still a mystery why it came and went, and why it was gone for good in Europe by the 18th century. Some scientists even question that what struck Europe in 1347 was bubonic plague as its spreading pattern did not correspond with what is known about it today. Some think it may have been an Ebola-like virus.
istvanklein 3 years ago
I heard that some believe the "black death" was actually anthrax.
Ewilds 3 years ago
Yes, that's one of the theories. But the majority consensus remains that it was plague.

And the fact is that we were around 170k before the Black Death, and after losing about 1/3 in the plague and many more in succeding epidemics, around 90k was left..

No, it was spreading because people did not know about it, but now media (tv radio and internet) can wanr us about it and stay indors in case it shows up. Contatc with an other person will make u sick, if u dont touch or breath close to them you are ok. (i think :D )

Alot of people died, but it was probably only some stupid virus that they didnt have medication and proper treatment for
LozzaNut 4 years ago
Actually it was a bacteria not a virus. Thus, it can be treated with antibiotics. That is of course, if one is a nasty-ass who doesn't bathe (Which they all were back then). Proper sanitation an hygine can prevent a person from getting the disease in the first place. A virus however cannot be treated. Even today with all of our medical advancements they can't cure viruses..not even the common cold. Rent the movie Outbreak somtime.
jezzabellesauce 4 years ago
They do however have vaccines for some viruses. Such as rabies, chicken pox, small pox and polio. Hell, even the flu-shot. But unfortunately not all. The movie Out break I mentioned, is about The Ebola Virus. If you think the plague is nasty, Ebola is worse. Your organs literally become liquid. (I know my spelling sucks..sorry).

speakupforjusttice is pretty right in that the bubonic ws around before the actual Pandemic, but that the Black Death was a worst case senario 1/3 of the world's humans died in those years
tynoobi 4 years ago
Black Death was not endemic- meaning it wasn't around all the time but stayed dormant. So therefore the sequels many years later can not be included in the Black Death episode.
speakupforjustice 4 years ago
Contrary to what some of the comments say, common consensus among historians pick Black Death occurring between the dates you posted in the vid. The bubonic plague has been around before the Black Death, but never in that same intensity. Black Death was it's own epidemic from other centuries of plague (like the plagues in England-it reached england much later, but was of a diff. strain)

I have always seen the 'plague doctors' as an eerie symbolic image of the black death...their odd outfits and creepy masks...it's cool now, but just imagine the fear and pain it caused back then.
bunnialchemistmeep 4 years ago
You know what the masks were for right? They would put flower petals in the beaks, thinking that the nice smell would protect them. Before Koch's germ theory of disease in 1800s most people believed diseases were spread by bad smells in the air (miasma).
speakupforjustice 4 years ago
small point 'devastating' is mispelt at tyhe end of the video
notospin 4 years ago
The 1st plague lasted 50 years and killed 30-50% of the earth's population. It reappeared sporadicly for the next 3 centurys. Fix the fucking date dipshit....
uhrkraft 4 years ago
Ok...first off I know it may be hard for you to use correct language, but try. However I reviewed my research and the dates on this video are correct. You May look it up in the source "The Western Heritage" a college textbook. The plague you are referring to is actually a different topic. If you have any further information to support yours I would be willing to change mine. Thanks.
historybarn 4 years ago
Sorry to be an asshole, cocksucker. The western Heritage is 20 years old, my proffessor would not use it. The Black Death is synonymous with the Bubonic Plague, which is widely believed to have been the cause.
uhrkraft 4 years ago
Regarding the exact dates of the Black Death; its controversial because the original outbreak was followed by several further outbreaks. Whether you count these as part of the Black Death or sequels to it is open to debate.
However if you are really are asshole as you acknowledge in your last post (and I'm not one to disagree with such an authority, you certainly seem to have the traits) then this won't matter too much.
Otherwise a nice and atmospheric gallery on a dark piece of history.
notospin 4 years ago
True
uhrkraft 4 years ago
you must not understand epidemiology that well, Black Death was a different episode to other cases of Bubonic Plague. The reason why it reappeared sporadicly was b/c it was different episodes. Not the ONE episode of bubonic plague named the Black Death.
speakupforjustice 4 years ago
Do you work for the CDC if you know it so well? Any organism can evolve and mutate to suit its' needs. As we all know Bacteria and Viral infections do this very well. I bet they had a VERY similar make up. Why exactly was it so different? Your message was somewhat confusing...
uhrkraft 4 years ago
actually, he did make very important points
as for you,
NO not all organisms can evolve to suit its needs all the time
bacteria and viruses dont "choose" to become immune to drugs
If what u say was the case, couldn't humans just "choose" to become immune? NO
tynoobi 4 years ago
You're a fucking 'tard. I never said they chose to mutate; no oraganism can do that. That happens through Natural Selection, I suggest reading up on it. Your grammar sucks balls. Learn how to commicate in coherent structures.
uhrkraft 4 years ago
There is a staff infection going around right now that is immune to antibiotics. It was on the news this week. A 12 year-old kid died of it. I sure hope the center for disease control is on top of this.

How long did it take you to translate that into Spanish? You need to learn how to write in English.
uhrkraft 3 years ago
what do YOU have to do with how I choose to write?
its your only excuse in trying to change da subject that you know I beat you in
keep commenting on my "poor grammar" if you can spell GRAMMAR
tynoobi 3 years ago
How did you beat me? You admitted that you incorrectly interpreted my comment, which was correct. Grammar was spelt correctly too; you idiot.
uhrkraft 3 years ago
I never said in any way that you misspelled "Grammar"
You misunderstood what I said a few months back, but it was no reason to flame me in such a way
I said something like this:
'The organisms could not evolve by choice'--- which implied that I was talking about Natural Selection--- then you flame me in a child-like manner and suggest that my stupid- self read about it
tynoobi 3 years ago
You implied it. Quote (keep commenting on my "poor grammar" if you can spell GRAMMAR) What was that supposed to mean then?
Looking back your initial comment sounded a bit confrontational so I responded in a similar, but harsher manner.

ok, ya well then......I've explained myself and so have you,..
