  • Great song

  • Love it how the T-rex incredibly seems not to attack the stonemen but actually walking with them in their promenade, lol.

Too bad there were no friendly T-rexs (all dinosaurs were extinct which makes its apperance amusing) as mans pet. That sort of would have helped alot against the malevolent wolves and bears. Not to mention hunting mammots!

  • Pretty cool. Would love to see you do a video on Bitcoins.

  • @MisterDataJack When coercion is the status quo liberty is "wacky". Come back when you've grown a backbone, and you'll probably enjoy the song.

  • @MisterDataJack yeah what a radical idea!

Have a heart and give your money voluntarily to the poor instead of stealing from others like some barbarian.

  • @austenbosten Quite the mess of logical fallacies you got there.

Taxation is not stealing, nor is it barbaric. It is, in fact, the only way a civilized country can raise revenues, because civilized countries do not plunder resources from other countries.

Also, nothing prevents people who are taxed to also give to charities. I do it every year, and I feel my taxes are too low.

It's all about where you draw the line - I think some govt provided services (including health care) are a good idea.

  • @MisterDataJack There is nothing wrong with Taxation, I agree. I am not a RuPaul Paulestinain brownshirt.

However the problem with the 'welfare state' is it is funded by those who will never use those services to serve those who do not contribute. Also if you ever used govt services you'll find how it does more harm than good. Welfare programs force people to fit into some sort of box in order to receive services. Welfare should be available to all who wish to use it.

  • @MisterDataJack So a large group of armed thugs forcing you to pay them isnt theft?

    You, sir, are very confused.

By supporting a state, you support the killing of individuals who did nothing to others.

  • @dum123321ify By pretending that states aren't necessary for the existence of societies you support the denial of history and reality. Ideally, states do not kill anyone (i.e., most western democracies) and provide sufficient services for the taxes they collect (i.e., most western democracies).

No armed group of thugs forces me to pay taxes (though I was late this year, and had to pay penalties. But still, no armed thugs in sight). In fact, I think me and those like me should pay higher taxes.

  • @MisterDataJack So throwing people in a cage where they'll be raped for not paying for something they don't want is civilized?

  • @DoctorCapitalist No matter how fervently you wish this to be an actual possibility, it simply isn't. If you must waste time worrying, you should instead worry about things that can happen, rather than things that can only happen in your bizarre fantasies.

Taxing citizens in order to provide services is the right of a state.

Denying that right exists, and still believing those services would be provided (or are not needed) is petulant and childish.

  • @MisterDataJack Yes because if the state doesn't provide shoes, then shoes will not exist!

  • @DoctorCapitalist Logical fallacy. Shoes do not equal armies, roads, or foreign policy. Do you people read anything but "Atlas Shrugged"?

  • @MisterDataJack Yes because these things can only be funded by the state, right?

  • @MisterDataJack The point.

    .

    .

Your head. Oh look, it went right over. You're actually the one with the straw man fallacy, "Dorothy, why do these libertarians/anarco-capitalists/objectivists hate roads and other services?" Try again with a little less fallacy.

  • @MisterDataJack Your lack of ideas or imagination is very silly.

Libertarians try to come up with solutions, going into details of how many government services could be provided, how they would be produced, how they could be funded etc.

The statist solution is: Give some people a bunch of guns and make everyone pay for it. If they resist, put them in a rape cage. That'll teach em.

  • @MisterDataJack This mindset it similiar to that of the religious.

While scientists will look into all the possibilities, come up with hypothesises, run tests, and try again if their hypothesis is false, the religious answer is simply: goddidit

Although in this case it's GOVDOIT

  • So simple, a child could understand.

  • This song needs a Flash animator.

  • favorited (not just on youtube but in web browser). Great song

  • This should be essentially 100% of elementary school curriculum.

  • Quality!

  • Jason Mraz should sing this song :)

  • Amazing in it's simplicity! Posting to Facebook, which I might just do every single day 'till my friends "get it"... thank you so much!

  • Absolutely amazing video, beautifully done. Re-posting it.

  • What???

  • Are you kidding me? I guess you know I live in Springfield.

  • I don't get it. But then again, I gradeated from Univercity of Nebraski.

  • I can't get enough of this...truly well done. Thanks!

  • >

    > This video should be shown in every High School Social Studies class.

    >

  • @pisku0 Nature needs you as a fertilizer.

...but honestly. Who gets to decide what nature needs? You? A committee?

  • @pisku0 I think you are misunderstanding this simple concept. You don't "steal" an apple from nature at all, because like dyssolve said, nature uses you as a fertilizer. But this is besides the point, this song isn't really about the circle of life.

You don't "steal" an apple from someone else, instead you trade something of value (ie. money, gold, clothes, etc) in exchange for the apple.

Private property is a simple concept and a foundation of a free and just society.

  • @pisku0 Fortunately, most of us are civilized and willing to compromise, and if we can't find a mutual agreement, then we have laws and courts to settle our disputes (which this song has an excellent way of illustrating).

Moreover, as we are the most sapient and conscious beings on the planet we do have a responsibility to protect and preserve earth, however, that doesn't mean that you cannot live on a piece of land because there are a few ant mounds on it.

What exactly are you saying anyway?

  • everytime I watch this video I'm cheered up.

  • i mass emailed this to everyone of my classes

  • This is the author, Nick Sibley. Just curious, do you teach the classes or are you in school? By the way, I wish my detractors here would take into account that this is a four minute song.

I can't cover every angle of western civ. It's just a song.

  • no i'm a college student

  • > It's a great song!

    > People should email it to everyone they know -- especially teenagers.

  • @MrNickSibley Very well written Mr. Sibley. If you ever visit Bolivar MO, could I get your autograph?

  • The video gives a distorted version of history. The state did not arise from a collective desire for a governing or judicial body. It arose from alliances among feudal lords, cult leaders, and other assorted bullies, cutthroats, and con men.

  • The state really began as a practical joke.

  • Both sides of this are true. Your perspective and the one you shallowly grasped from this video... There were good men and bad men who organized the people through out history.

All this aside, you missed the point.

  • I think, if you were really interested in me getting the point, you would have mentioned what you think the point is, instead of just writing that I missed it. You probably also would've explained what you meant by "shallowly," which on its own sounds like an offhand insult to me.

"Organizing the people" is not the same as organizing a state, which is more akin to herding the people, or browbeating the people, or shooting bullets at the people.

  • it is not my place to teach you anything. What would you be if everything was handed to you? And you proved my point by assuming once again the worst of someone or their perspective. This is a short song trying to simplify self ownership. Thats it! It is not a all consuming data base of info on this subject... I still think you missed the point!

  • Telling someone that he's wrong but failing to specify how is the same as a put-down.

It didn't take any assumptions to see what your motivation was. Someone who opens with "both sides of this are true" doesn't have a perspective to share. The claim there is no truth is a vehicle for painting the observations of others as wrong-headed, simplistic, or "shallow."

Where would I be if I couldn't see through your refusal to explain yourself? Well, I might think you actually had something to say.

  • Show me one good person who was involved in the founding of a state. That is, a person whom you think was/is good. That way, I'll know where you draw the distinction between good and bad.

  • Question: How do we get societies, the world even, back on track of human progress? Back on tract with Natural Law? How do we abolish modern slavery?

Answer: Stop paying taxes. We stop being slaves by stop allowing ourselves to be enslaved. Stop paying taxes.

FIGHT TYRANNY | STOP PAYING TAXES

  • How?

    Agorism?

  • Wow, a natural law song. I love it!

  • > Voluntarily -- that's the key word.

  • > Some people just can't handle the truth.

  • What about the impact of religion?

  • nice song

  • Technically this is not correct...altruism and cooperation evolved long before there were humans (primates studies show the behaviour in chimps and orangutans) but its still a great video.

And I whole heartedly support the message.

  • obviously not the point of the song

  • Brilliant! I love it!

  • best thing I've seen in a long time.

  • This is absolutely BRILLIANT! Thank you, thank you, thank you to the folks who made this and thanks to Rachel for sharing it with me. You guys rock! I can't wait to share this with my network.

  • If you enjoyed this video, you may also like the slightly more philosophical animated video on the philosophy of liberty that can be found on the International Society for Individual Liberty website:

  • I've watched this and shared it until my husband says it's irritating.

    I still love it. :o)

  • Why not?

  • To which part of my post?

  • Why would there be no public roading system?

  • You're not thinking hard enough, contra

  • Great video. Way better that socialist one they show in schools.

  • @dontlikenumbers What socialist video, and what schools?

  • I am in love with this video and spread it every chance I get. THANK YOU! I've never seen a more succinct and amusing description of liberty and free markets in my life.

  • I've watched this approximately 17 times now.

  • They don't.

  • If you think about it very hard, how often in your life have you interacted with individuals, and how often have they assaulted you? Most people are not cruel and greedy. The rest we can take care of them through self-defence and ostracism.

Kind of like how most people here have to your comments. But I forgive your misconceptions and hope you change your attitude towards people. Otherwise, you're a misanthrope.

  • back your ideas thoughtfully up. otherwise you cannot say that its 1+1=2

  • nice. watched it twice in a row.

  • Great video, and so catchy too!

  • I love it.

  • Bravo!

  • 514 views right now. I hope it hits 10 million. Absolutely brilliant. Amazing that this is such a simple concept that some people don't get it.

  • It is flagged now as I am one of BO's Brown-shirts. All your names have been taken and you will be required to report to re-education camps (like the good ole' days in the Soviet Union) where you will watch news 24/7 on CNN, MSNBC, and all the other MSM networks until you bow to the great leader and his teachings. Mu-ha-ha-ha.

  • How long before it is flagged as being unsuitable for people under 18?

  • This is an absolutely spectacular video. I don't think you can sum up the conservative/libertarian view of government/society any better.

Keep more like this coming. We need messengers like you Nick.

  • Way to go Nicko.

Remember our days at Am. Artists? Funny times, huh?
