  • this is a GREAT video show the predator mites...THANX

  • seems like they walk right past each other you basically paid alot to add more bugs :)

  • spider mite poo, lolz

  • when do we see the spider mite slaying ? destroy the lil bastards n stop teasing with the predator mites i wont to see some spider mite destruction i hate the litlle buggers !! :) ;) :D

  • Excellent video with an intelligent voice over, awesome stuff man thanks for uploading

  • About 7 years ago i caught a spider in the house! I picked it up with my Hands and took it outside. I placed it on the big green wheelie bin in Garden! Then along came a tiny red creature! It leaped from the wooden fence directly onto my spider! Fence was about 8 inch away.

The spider died in seconds. The tick like creature was extremely small compared to spiders size! the spider was size of a 50p coin. the tick! the size of grain of salt. I would like to see a video of this to back this up.

  • Good images of an interesting animal.

  • I wonder how much radiation it would take to eradicate those little pests? :-)

Or maybe drop in a hungry ladybug (Coccinellidae) for some munching action.

  • Needs more mite carnage.

  • they remind me of headcrabs, to be honest o_O

  • @sciencoking

oh my! what if they mutate due to radiation and thus, become monster mites that are actually gonna be head-crabs? O_O

  • that would be the most badass-experiment ever, add them to your plant experiment =)

  • @bionerd23 Gordon Freeman?!!!

  • @bionerd23 lol

  • Brother against brother, biological civil warfare.

  • Spider mites are nasty if you are to late to do

something about it, the ganja will

    look like a cotton candy.

  • Noted any effects of this method? Would be neat to catch on camera an actual kill of the spider mite, but I assume its very hard (time consuming and highly unlikely to came across).

  • @LechuCzechu

not yet, the only effect i noticed is killer mites running around on the leaves... and in some spots, there are about a dozen killer mites keeping still doing "something"; too bad it wont be before the weekend until i have time to look at them again (by picking off a leaf and placing it under my microscope)...

  • I really hate the way so many potent chemical pesticides are used on our food crops, so I'm definitely cheering for the little red "biological pest control guys." We need to find more useful species like them !

  • @amatomicX

You gotta be kiddin me! You hate this, but on the other hand you demand fruits ang vegies to be more and more perfect shape, smooth-skin, good taste and affordable! Farmers and plantators HAVE to use modern chemistry to grow plants, it would impossible to sustain the demand with primitive methods designed to home and garden use.

  • @LechuCzechu Sure we need chemical pesticides to feed all the people of the world. But I think biological controls could be the thing of the future, and should be used on a larger scale (it is being done, for many pests of crops) Since pests develop resistance to chemicals over time, and we do not (and it is practically impossible to predict all of the possible health effects a chemical may have on us before it is put into use ) we should continue to study alternative means of pest control.

  • @amatomicX

that's what genetics engineering is for. it's most expensive to use natural predators, as those need to be bread etc. - it's less expensive to use chemicals, but it'd be even less expensive if you could genetically manipulate the plant so it cannot even be attacked by pests anymore. sure, the pests could develop so they can use the plant as host again, but then we're gonna do more genetics engineering. it's already being done.

  • @bionerd23 yeah, a bacterium, Bacillus Thuringiensis or BT was used as a natural pesticide to control gypsy moths and other pests which can seriously damage forests. They spliced a gene from the bacteria into corn plants, and now they have "BT corn" which is resistant to insect attack. It's being grown in many areas of the U.S. It is used as feed for cattle, may be awhile before it is accepted for human consumption.

  • i was hoping to see some killing =P lol...

  • Bionerd, why are you sooo cool

  • thos littel guys r cool

  • What kind of mites did you use? Do they only attack mites?

  • @Digephil

phytoseiulus persimilis. they're specialized on spider mites; they only eat spider mites (and each other, when there's no spider mite prey left). it's kinda handy, so once the spider mites are all dead, the killer mites will murder each other and dang, pests gone. lol

  • always a pain when growing bud.

  • @odin422

lol, thanks for the info. good thing i really hate the effects of THC so i dont have to go through that. ^_^

  • @bionerd23 Aw really, you don't enjoy THC? That's a shame, there's a strain for everyone!

Very neat video by the way. :D

  • @jreed136

nah, makes me agitated and nervous and gives me symptoms of "restless legs", i really cant stand it. it's only bearable in combination with alcohol, but yeah, i'm no longer doing that, lol. it's just not my cup of tea.

  • @bionerd23 Ah, you probably had some indica, that stuff always makes me paranoid.

I don't do alcohol either. :) I suppose you're like my hyper intelligent friend who just doesn't want to "change his brain chemistry".

But to each their own! At least you've tried it. Hate people who haven't tried it and then try to demonize it.

Keep on making these videos, they're awesome.

  • @jreed136

i tried all kinds of stuff, i was in the netherlands where it was legal and you have a wiiiide choice. ;)

some (sativa) are better than others, true - but still - yeah, just not my thing.

i dont have anything against changing my brain chemistry, as long as it's a beneficial change - i take amphetamine and ritalin for ADHD (and i made videos about that, too). it doesnt make me uncomfortably "high" in any way, but it rather makes me calm and focused, pretty nice.

  • @jreed136

...as a side note, i dont understand the demonizing of cannabis, anyway. from a viewpoint on addiction, it is much, MUCH less dangerous than alcohol. it can give you the same amount of physical dependancy as alcohol, but you cannot DIE from physical symptoms when withdrawing THC - however, that can happen if you're an alcoholic and withdraw! THC is also linked to causing psychosis in some people that are predestinated - but really, alcohol is still more dangerous - and legal? WTF?

  • @bionerd23 You bring up interesting questions. I can quit weed cold turkey after two months every day of use and be perfectly fine for another month or two without weed. I drank myself into some liver problems, so I quit that for good.

Point is, I don't think weed is any more addicting than... Well... Everything. I'm probably more addicted to Youtube if you feel me.

Weed is just illegal because hemp is too versatile and pharmacies can't patent reefer.

  • @bionerd23 It's never been about the health effects, that's all just propaganda(They categorized it in with crack-cocaine, heroine, cocaine, and meth.), it's always been about the money.

  • @jreed136

yeah, i guess that makes sense. oh well, a different way is possible, as the netherlands show us; i hope more countries will follow that example. oh yeah, about meth - did you know methamphetamine is approved by the FDA as a drug to treat ADHD in the USA? so much for that...

  • @bionerd23 Yes ma'am, I was prescribed what is basically cocaine(Ritalin) when I was younger . Marijuana could more than likely treat ADHD as well. Without any negative side effects except for impermanent impaired short term memory. It's really a miracle plant.

California is going to be trying to legalize marijuana in November, I'm hoping it goes through and produces results in the economy so that every other state follows.

    Fingers crossed!

  • @jreed136

well, THC doesnt seem to work for me... maybe it'd have to be a much lower dose or something, though...? so far, i'm quite happy with cocaine and speed ;), i'm not "against" those, either. same as i am not against alcohol and THC. it can be used in a reasonable way - i do enjoy drinking 1-2 beer in the evening, i'd say on a weekly basis, so yeah.

it's true though, some people with ADHD seem to self-medicate with THC, but, well... everybody's different.

  • @bionerd23 Have you ever tried Desoxypipradrol? It is legal and uncontrolled in most countries. Reports have it working better than standard amphetamine because of its duration, and with slightly less norepinephrine stimulation. I know a retailer that sells USP grade for $250 a gram.

  • @bamboo4tameshigiri

never heard of that so far, but just looked it up... it works for 24 hours? wow, that's one hell of a half-time, lol. sounds interesting, i'd try it, if i knew where to obtain the pure substance... but, despite it being legal in germany as well, a quick look at forums tell me it's not just sold in pharmacies. weird. i sometimes obtain chemicals in pharmacies... hmm.

could be worth it in theory if it's that potent indeed. a gram of pure amphetaminesulfate costs me $45.

  • @bionerd23 How many milligrams is a standard amphetamine dose for you? For Desoxypipradrol, 5 milligrams is a large dose and 10 milligrams should never be exceeded. It is just a thought. I know that you are plenty intelligent enough to pick up the rest of the investigation for yourself. I do know one chemical supply house that has it in stock per gram, though. Considering its legal status, a legit research institute or hospital could easily order by the pound from bulk suppliers- legally.

  • @bamboo4tameshigiri

4-12mg usually, depends if it's a "yeah ok i need to do stuff but that's it" or a "oh crap, hard work and concentration all day!" situation. re-dosing may be needed in that case, too, so max. 15mg / day. so yeah, financially, it'd make sense for sure. very interesting, i'll look into that, thanks for the info. :)

  • @jreed136 To be honest, methylphenidate fits on the tree about half way between cocaine and amphetamine.

  • @bamboo4tameshigiri Yes, but it's more chemically similar to cocaine.

  • @jreed136 It's not really structurally similar to either one. Cocaine is a tropane alkaloid. Amphetamine is a phenylisopropylamine. Methylphenidate is a piperidine.

  • @bamboo4tameshigiri Clearly you are more informed than I. I don't really care for it, I've only gotten second hand "information" about it.

  • @jreed136 Eh, its a hobby.

  • @bamboo4tameshigiri I bet. :P

  • @bionerd23 I would not expect alcohol to be legalized nowadays if they would invent it today. And since there are not only scientists in our world, we will always have problems to find a rational basis to discuss about drugs. I for my self am pretty careful with drugs(including the legal ones), because I consider an addiction as something i don't want to have.

  • @HiltownJoe For as long as man has used alcohol, it has used marijuana. Marijuana isn't a new drug, it was used thousands of years ago by shaman, oracles and apothecaries.

  • i hate sipder mites!!! arg! they are so hard to get rid of, where can you get those mites

  • @reatard132

i got them at a "biological pest control" shop in my hometown... $20 for ~500 of them though, ouch.
