Very well said. You articulated exactly what needs to be said on the subject. Prostitution is undoubtedly the result of the poverty and financial insecurity generated by capitalism and would be, for all intents and purposes, eradicated under socialism. Socialism would eliminate the desperate financial conditions that drive women to the sex industry while also bringing about a profound shift in consciousness that would make human commodification unthinkable.
@AtheismCentral Honestly, this debate is inessential. I've been studying Kant, Fichte, and Hegel quite a bit lately, which has improved my critical thinking skills. The point of me objecting to your statement was to challenge your assumptions, not to refute the conclusion you made. I personally object to prostitution on the grounds of it turning sex into a commodity.
Aidan X, your intelligence and maturity never ceases to amaze me. Excellent vid on a highly controversial and complex social issue. Fact is that, given a choice, the overwhelming majority of women who are sex workers would rather not be selling their bodies to keep up with the continually rising cost of living if they could earn a good salary in another field. For women in 3rd world countries the situation is a matter of survival and the ultimate insult to their dignity. cont...
Yeah, of course they're not gonna enjoy it if they're only doing it to survive. However, in a society without money, there'd still be a tiny minority of hypersexual women who want to fuck all the time, and I don't see a problem with that. :D
In Sweden, it's only illegal to buy sex, prostitutes aren't punished at all. It's also a lot easier to get financial aid here, so I think most prostitutes are slave women from eastern Europe or drug addicts.
@Nomiss9 OMG the Happy Hooker myth...blowing 25 guys a day would not be satisfying to a hypersexual woman. Most men ask for BJ's, fetishes, and virtually none seek out a prostitute to pleasure HER -_- women with above average libidos will often enjoy sex with a variety of men for FREE.
@TheSamara89kitten I didn't say hypersexual women want to blow 25 guys a day, what I said was what you said at the end. In a society without money, there'd still be women who want to have lots of sex, just like a lot of men do. Actually, I suspect if our culture wasn't so fucked up (women who have as much sex as the average man are called sluts etc), there wouldn't be such a huge demand for prostitutes. Also, happy hookers DO exist, and if prostitution was regulated, they'd be more common.
@Nomiss9 OK, I understand what you're saying. Depends on the society and culture itself. In France and Germany (I've grown up in both countries) prostitution is not the huge deal it is as in, say, the US. It's more open and people discuss it over dinner along with politics and the weather. The double standard of calling women who have multiple sex partners 'sluts' never ceases to amuse me. I do know of men who prefer sex with prostitutes because they won't become 'clingy'
@DahStranger eventually I'll be doing a video on ruby's attempt to bully you and how she clearly likens herself to ALL sex workers here. "because I'm different, right?" that bullshit. I'm working on something else at the moment, but she's going to get the video she deserves.
There is NO choice in the sex industry! Women are coerced depending on their economic situation, to have sex with these men, who are in sound financial situations, taking advantage of the woman's financhial situation to come in her!
If someone is holding a gun to you head, and says if you don't sweep up a mess they will shoot you, is this choice?
If someone is holding death due to poverty above your head, and say the only way you can survive is if you get fucked for money, is that choice?
The Fact of the matter is that prostitutes would not exist if we had Socialism! Prostitution derives from poverty, women need money to obtain food, clothes and shelter, prostitution you get the cash then and there. Rich men take advantage of their money situation to screw them!
@AtheismCentral A Marxist who visited the USSR and has a long history of defending it, Michael Parenti, said there WAS prostitution, and that he witnessed it himself. Marx criticized the Young Hegelians for forcing facts to fit their theories. We must stay true to Marx, and not fall into an error he criticized.
I'm aware of this, the fact is that the USSR had market reforms at that time, collectivism was decreasing. The USSR was trying to follow the path of Comrade Deng Xiaoping, sadly a biproduct of temporary Market Socialism can be the increase of the sex industry.

@Nomiss9 Do they have to be hypersexual to prostitute?
antybobanty 1 month ago
@antybobanty They don't have to be obviously, but clearly a hypersexual person is more likely to enjoy it?
