Your assessment is totally wrong. You need to put a GPS on the bike and prepare to be humbled. Restricted 1000s do low 180s at best on a good day with a small rider. Just figured you'd want the truth.
i have a 2006 stock r1- i was on a ride and we hung out w/ some other riders- one of whom owned a 2008 GSXR1000, he had a full yoshi exhaust and a dyna jet power commander- we were the only two bigger then a 750- and we lined up on the light- we were neck and neck all the way till we hit traffic- we were up around 170mph he said- so u be the judge- me stock- i weigh 177lbs- he was piped and tuned- and he was shorter then me- no clue what he weighed- i was damn proud my stock r1 that day!

Actually, the R1 doesn't reach top speed in 5'th, it reaches the top of 5'th gear in 5'th, before you have to shift into 6'th. the top speed on a stock R1 in 5'th is 187MPH according to the speedo or 168mph according to GPS. top speed in 6'th is power limited to 202mph on a flat road according to the speedo, which is 176mph according to the GPS.

the 09 r1 wont take the gsxr 1000 on top end. it will on acceleration tho, up till 9-10000rpm, the ecu in the r1 puts out 10% more throtle than what you actually give it, only till 9-10000rpm tho. superbike done a 2 page spread on it, the gixxer is king. always have always will be, thats why i got a k8 thou. anyways, were talking bout points of a second between the top 4 thous, its down to what suits you best, any one of the top 4 bikes would beat each other, depends on who the rider is.
The 09 R1 top end power is actually "hidden" and it's up to your tuner to dig out that power... after tuning and mods, it will stay with the rest of the conventional inline 4s....

i don't know if it's been said before, but for a long time the 6th gear on gixxers isn't really a high-speed gear. it's just a gear to get the revs down a bit and to save fuel. bmw has the same system om their 6-speed gearboxes on their cars. to hit the topspeed you go in 5th gear. i don't know about yamaha and kawa and so on..?

as an owner of a 08 R1 i say this.Yamaha has always been the slowst of all mnufcters. the least hp the least trqe. the track is where they shine. the R1 is ment for turns . the R1 does in Fact have the best low and mid range power which matters most . when enterin and exitin a turn at the apex . also all OEM mnufctrs made an agreemnt that all 1000cc and above bikes top at 183mph. STOCK. the only way to make it faster is buying a chip that allows your bike to think its in 6th gear all the time
the 2008 R1 was designed as a more track ready motorcycle. 6 pot brakes, a much more refined slipper clutch than the others helped out a lot..to name a few things. Imo after riding the 08 and the 09 r1..Id say the 08 was a better track machine..Lighter, More power. Still same great handling. But in the end, the rider makes the bike..And proving it on the straights is just lame. Its all about the track, or some nice twisty roads.

Not a dumb question at all. On my bike, When your at that high of a speed, switching into another gear wouldn't really help. When you close the throttle to change gears, the power is gone for just a little bit, causing you to lose a few mph. You know?
Ever tried to reach top speed when in top gear (on the flat) on a bicycle? Same thing. Just because you have a taller gear does not mean you can go faster in it. If too tall, the engine just won't pull it.

The Gsxr 1000 always came out as Top Dog. It's HP and Torque has always been high than the R1. Although a few pounds heavier, thats just cuz the exhaust.
And for the fractional amount of extra power you're trading in good looks and originality. GSXR's are ugly and everyone has one. The slight power difference can easily be made up by rider skill and many other variables that affect EACH race. Get off your high horse.

Are you really complaining? 100 km/h is 60mph. 200km/h is about 130-ish mph. 260km/h is about 150mph. 300kmh is 186.

Before 2009 GSXR was the best about speed but leter a Yamaha modificated the engine so ...
Also in first gear on R1 can get ~165km/h
on 5 gear can get 299 same like GSXR

Uhm no...your wrong. Take a GPS and put it on both stock Gixxer and R1 and the Gixxer WILL read higher. It's fact. Look at EVERY issue of cycle world in their liter bike comparison

i know gsxr's top speed is more than 300km/h. i have a friend and he also has one gsxr. he says the rotations still goes on. i love gsxr but i prefer hayabusa xD dammm 200 horse power is for motogp. vmax also has 200hp

the 09 r1 wont take the gsxr 1000 on top end. it will on acceleration tho, up till 9-10000rpm, the ecu in the r1 puts out 10% more throtle than what you actually give it, only till 9-10000rpm tho. superbike done a 2 page spread on it, the gixxer is king. always have always will be, thats why i got a k8 thou. anyways, were talking bout points of a second between the top 4 thous, its down to what suits you best, any one of the top 4 bikes would beat each other, depends on who the rider is.

The 09 R1 top end power is actually "hidden" and it's up to your tuner to dig out that power... after tuning and mods, it will stay with the rest of the conventional inline 4s....

Yes it depends solely on the rider when your on a 1000cc japanese bike. Arguing which is better between the big four is a complete waste of time. You might is well be arguing which has cooler name, color and styling, because that is the only real difference. Each one will post under 10 in the quarter straight out of the box.

gsx-r1k are no longer the top bikes you dumbazzes and they haven't been for a long time, back in 04, the r1 and zx-10r kicked the gsx-r1k's azz and as for 09 the r1 rules want proof, look at world superbike, ben spies on the R1, where is suzuki at??? AMA sbk sucks it's dead now, it's all about MOTO GP and world SBK last i checked yamaha rules both! get your facts straight

hey guys the speed limitation of the gsxr and the yzf r1 are different the gsxr have an electric one and the yzf mechanical so the gsxr can hit the top speed in 5th gear cus of the giant power

i don't know if it's been said before, but for a long time the 6th gear on gixxers isn't really a high-speed gear. it's just a gear to get the revs down a bit and to save fuel. bmw has the same system om their 6-speed gearboxes on their cars. to hit the topspeed you go in 5th gear. i don't know about yamaha and kawa and so on..?

you should KNOW that motorcycle speedometers are off by 10% this is an accepted FACT among riders.
10% of 186 is 18.6
186 - 18.6 = 167.4 = I suggest you test your top speed with GPS

as an owner of a 08 R1 i say this.Yamaha has always been the slowst of all mnufcters. the least hp the least trqe. the track is where they shine. the R1 is ment for turns . the R1 does in Fact have the best low and mid range power which matters most . when enterin and exitin a turn at the apex . also all OEM mnufctrs made an agreemnt that all 1000cc and above bikes top at 183mph. STOCK. the only way to make it faster is buying a chip that allows your bike to think its in 6th gear all the time

the 2008 R1 was designed as a more track ready motorcycle. 6 pot brakes, a much more refined slipper clutch than the others helped out a lot..to name a few things. Imo after riding the 08 and the 09 r1..Id say the 08 was a better track machine..Lighter, More power. Still same great handling. But in the end, the rider makes the bike..And proving it on the straights is just lame. Its all about the track, or some nice twisty roads.

first off, the speedos on bikes are not reliable...
second, the top speed can be changed with gearing...
but! personaly I think the gsxr has got a bit more meaty engine, but the R1 is more agile in the twisties.. (where I like to drive)
either have both R1 and gsxr stock and try them side by side, or measure them with a gps..
and also, if you are 14 and have never driven a bike? dont argue on the interwebs... go to your room and play with yourself..

Not a dumb question at all. On my bike, When your at that high of a speed, switching into another gear wouldn't really help. When you close the throttle to change gears, the power is gone for just a little bit, causing you to lose a few mph. You know?

Ever tried to reach top speed when in top gear (on the flat) on a bicycle? Same thing. Just because you have a taller gear does not mean you can go faster in it. If too tall, the engine just won't pull it.

The 09 GSXR has more HP and Torque. It's 2mph faster on top end. It has a better 1/4 mile time and speed.

The Gsxr 1000 always came out as Top Dog. It's HP and Torque has always been high than the R1. Although a few pounds heavier, thats just cuz the exhaust.

And for the fractional amount of extra power you're trading in good looks and originality. GSXR's are ugly and everyone has one. The slight power difference can easily be made up by rider skill and many other variables that affect EACH race. Get off your high horse.

Let's all go out and buy the things that have the MOST... screw other very important factors. In fact, let's go out and buy something because it's the cool thing to do, because everyone else has one, it's trendy, or goes 1mph more than any other bike.
