  • Nice setup, I noticed that you have a digital pocket thermometer attached to your mash tun to check your strike water temp. How large of a hole did you drill, are gum stoppers readily available at Home Depot, and what else do you have holding in the thermometer . No leaks?

  • Great explanation, man!

this really is starting to make sense to me!

The only thing about these tutorials that I dont understand is-- the actual WIRING of the elements into an actual plug. and the criteria for the CHOOSING of the right element.

also I keep hearing something about GFCI breakers?

    IDK anything about electrics...

  • At 5:30 your turkey fryer is in the back of the shot like, "hey buddy... haven't forgotten about ole' me have yah? Im still #1 right?".... Poor little guy... ;)

  • Well, the fryer will never see another vat of wort... but it does fry an excellent turkey!

  • Hey Pol,

    Aekdbbop here from HBT..

mind if I pick your brain sometime about your setup? Take a look at my videos, I am looking at doing the same setup (kinda).

Do you have a controller for your BK? Or does it just run full force?

  • You can ask anything you like, been helping a few fellas build this thing with great success. The BK is controlled with a PID that uses an SSR to switch the high voltage current. It is really an easy thing to set up and works excellent. You can precisely control your boil off rate as your BTUs are digitally controlled.

  • try open source freeware Mediacoder for converting videos. see my tut.

  • The maillard reactions arent bad. I mean, it is an ULWD element and my blondes are just as pale and bright as always. I generally do nothing less than a 90 minute boil either. Now, if you use a HDW element, the results may differ.... I say MAY.

  • how bad are your maillard reactions with the water heater element?

  • Great vid Pol. I like seeing it all on video. It helps make sense quickly. I cant wait till I finish this build!

  • It is a fun system to brew on... like I said, if you need any help, drop me a line, I can assist you.

  • This rig is now featured in BYO magazine
