Betty, Your suggestion of using Cambells brand brown beef broth and also Cosomme was brilliant! That broth is much better than the colorless stuff, and there was no need to use Gravy Master or Kitchen Bouquet. Your timing suggestions were right on, as well. Thanks! (Pattycakesmiles).
@110cottoncandy You can use a roasting pan in the oven. If you don't have that, then use a large covered pot on the stove. Check to make sure there is enough liquid occasionally, and add water if needed.
I add celery too and tons more onions actually all veggies. Just cause they shrink down so much.....Ive never seared it before tried that this time too turned out great!!
Hi Betty: This is my first time tuning in, I'm very impressed with your video's, I will certainly try this receipe soon, & also some of your other receipes, Thank you.
When you said 7up as the drink my mouth watered. What an awesome drink compliment to an awesome meal. Definitely going to make this and drink some 7up with cherries in it.
I just finished making this pot roast for my family here in South Korea. It was a wonderful success. Betty, thank you for giving me the confidence to make such a delicious dinner! Merry Christmas.
Thanks so much Betty! This was very easy with your directions, this is how my mom used to make pot roast. It turned out wonderful and my husband loved it. Thanks again :-)
Looks Yummy. I used to cook Elk in the slow cooker. Then shredded it up and add Bar B Que sauce for sandwiches. My brother in law said it tasted like beef. I use to feed my nieces and nephews Crock Pot Elk. They did'nt taste the difference. To this day I never told them. That is what they ate when I baby sat those kids. Now their older, and I never told them. Thanks to the Crock Pot.
I have been looking at youtube videos on how to cook pot roast in a slow cooker and your video is by far the best one on youtube. You do a wonderful presentation and calmly explain everything in a way that is easily understood. You are fantastic and very charming throughout the video. Do you have any sisters that might be available???
The way you present each ingredient, the measurments and the time it takes to prepare the meal is absolutely fantastic! You posess such flair and grace along with the hospitality you give to each viewer. I love how you arranged the meal on the platter along with the gravy you poured over the top of it. What a wonderful presentation and to think, you don't even have your own show yet.
You are now officially my favorite YouTube cook to watch! I love how you take the time to explain all the ingredients, including the measurements. I also like how you show us the preparation and explain it well too.
P.S. Tell your hubby he does a great job with the camera :)
I love the way you present your vids. I would like to know what camera and recording/editing system you use. The way you show the work area and not bounce allover the place is perfect. Do you record voice at the time you make the dish or dub it in later?
So many questions and so little time.
I look forward to hearing from you or send me to someone else that I can ask questions to?
We just use a small digital camera that shoots still pictures, as well as videos. It is a Canon Powershot S5 IS. We've had it for a long time, so I'm not sure this model is still being made. Rick, my husband, does the camera work. He doen't use a tripod, and the noise of the kitchen and my voice is just what is picked up by the camera. Rick has gotten really good at zooming in on the food when it is appropriate. If you need more info, send me a PM; Rick can answer.--B
Hello Betty. You have a lovely kitchen. I am going to make your pot roast in a crock pot tomorrow. I usually use a dutch oven, but want to try the crock pot.
@shehed11 Thanks for your compliments! If you want to do a roast without a crock pot, you need a covered ovenproof pan--or you can cover it with aluminum foil. Just season the roast with salt or meat tenderizer, and place it in a covered ovenproof dish or pan at 350 for about 3 to 4 hours, depending on the size of roast. You can check on it occasionally to see how it is progressing, and then remove when done. Then you can make delicious gravy from the juices!
Hey Betty! I found your video very helpful. I liked the step to step instructions. I am a very inexperienced cook, but I found it very easy to follow your directions. It made the cooking seem less scary to me. Thanks a bunch!
Thanks for you awesome videos :) Im trying this one out today.. I am doing in the roaster in the oven, it was too late to throw in the slowcooker this morning, lol
Its been on an hr already and all I can say is OMG the smell is FABULOUS!!
Betty, I am a sucker for pastries & I noticed the round ring pastry on the table, what is it? When you make it again for yourself, would you please post the recipe? Thank you sincerely
Wow Betty you are an absolute doll. You really should have your own cooking show. The roast looked fantastic and I am going to try your recipe tomorrow for my inlaws :)
Thanks for the compliment! I hope you like the recipe! It's the middle of summer here, but I still use my crock pot for convenience, but it is *really* great on a cold day! Nice to hear from you!!!

great vids. some suggestions. less oil as that amount interferes with the caramelizaiton. dont every poke that meat once it is seared with a fork....shame on you...lol. also, onions can absorb a large amount of liquid. so soak em in something that adds flavour, juice, wine, beer. etc. FINALLY. if you browned that roast properly, you dont need ANY canned broth. just get your simmering liquid. a crushed tomato works well, and leaves no strong tomato taste.
Thanks for your comment! I have certain meat juices that I use cornstarch with and others that I use flour for making gravy. Likewise, I use milk in some and water or broth in others. I have tried lots of combinations, but I think most of my choices go back to learning to cook at my mother's elbow. Making the gravy for this dish with a roux would be great! I hope my viewers take note of your suggestion, and give it a try!!! Thanks for viewing and commenting!
Hi Betty, thanks for making a crock pot dinner meal, it looks delicious. When I make it I will let you know how it turned out. Thank you so much. Rosemarie
Browning the meat before you use a crock pot is SO IMPORTANT. You are so good to show folks how to do that;; those extra 5-7 minutes are a real payoff when your company smiles at your yummy dinner :)
My inlaws always made their gravy with cornstarch I had forgotton. Looks like company dinner can I come over?? One think Betty it is 102 F here would never wear long sleeves eek!
Someone requested a crock pot dinner, and then I just decided it needed a bread and a salad. It looks like a lot more trouble than it was! The high here is 80 today--we don't even have the air conditioning on--and at night, sometimes it's a little cool for me! It will be getting warmer, though! I'm glad I reminded you about using cornstarch in gravy--it always turns out great1 Thanks for your comment!
Looks good. I can't wait to make it.
