  • Eric Johnson, right guitar, right tone, no feeling. Vai and Satch wrong guitars, wrong tone, all feeling. Eric, you're fired!

  • eric jonhson looks like scarface tony mantana here....

  • CONTENGAN SUS ORGASMOSSSSSSS

  • I kinda wished they played without delay.. like, all of em

  • @MrVanFox : JIMI HENDRIX

  • This has always been my favorite g3 combination.

  • Eric Johnson sounds like he was born in the mud house next to Muddy Waters. Serious shit.

  • Amazing performance, three talented musicians doing what they love best together.

  • I wonder if these guys are actually improvising there solo's? I think Joe is but I don't know about the other two!

  • I've had this on repeat 18 times now!

  • eric's voice is amazing

  • "STIVIE" Vai, is realy good hahahaha'

  • 3:41 :D :D :D

  • eric is awesome !

  • I jsut love Vai's part. It has a blueish feeling, but the phrasing has Vai all over it, very unique!

  • between these 3, Eric is the only one who can play well on the blues, you feel that the other 2 are not used to playing it

  • @grazianism I think the other two just tried a little too hard to incorporate their own styles into 'blues' phrasing. Eric just has the true taste for blues.

  • en definitiva mi g3 favorita

  • mmm como que satriani mucha pose el estaba para hacer mas bases que improvisar los solos stevie falto grabarlo mas =S hahhah pero se siente tu tocada y eric fue el mejor en el escenario =D

  • "Blues is easy to play, but hard to feel." - Jimmy Hendrix

  • @MrVanFox Who's Jimmy Hendrix?

  • @MrVanFox "Jimi" Hendrix sir.

  • Stevie vai?

  • only eric johnson is brave enough to do the rhythm section during trio solos.......

  • gods of guitar

  • uçtular aq

  • Three great musicians playing great music, the music speaks for itself, so just enjoy! Opinions are for those who don't know or don't play so keep them to yourself, less you look the fool.

  • I thought that Satriani and Steve Vai were great but... all i heard was noises(i mean distortion in their guitars)... i didn't like this G3.

  • eric johnson is the best.

  • Very Very Good =) Brasil-SALVADOR

  • I love the blues, play guitar, worship stevie, jimi, buddy all those other guys...but I also love these guys and lets be real, every solo was sick, and each one of these guys are legends...show respect, sit back and enjoy some of the greatest guitar players to ever walk the earth!

  • I love Satch because he literally can play any style, thats why all these virtuoso guitar players have satch as their teacher

  • Eric johnson threw in some cool lick endings but other than that im tired of hearing the same thing in all their videos. venture a bit more please

  • Surprisingly enough Vai plays some mean blue licks here. Totally unexpected of him. Great guitarist. But my mean preference is still Eric Johnson. Kudos to Satch too. I haven't seen all G3's, but I have a feeling this is the best by far.

  • nobody pawns anybody fucking morons, they are all great musicians in their own terms. Vai is a gem he is from different planet

  • in this steve and joe suck

  • Johnsson is too smooth on this track...I mean hendrix ripped it. Satriani is the only one commented by timmons and others to have the ...most albert king phrasing of all!!!

  • satriani pawned them!!!

  • @JasonWb007 hes the best at playing bizzare insane whammy bar stuff that makes no sense. Vai's solo stuff isnt bad. Id just rather listen to Cliffs of Dover. And satriani is obviously the best overall.

  • with jesus on bass.

  • @HalluciNathanFike anyone can play blues but very few are really good

  • Anyone can play the blues!

  • Eric makes Joe and Steve sound so white, LOL.

  • Eric Johnson is my personal favorite, then Satch then Vai.

  • If Jimi would see...

  • Personally i think tone is irrelevant when it comes to playing. Notes are what matter.

This is a good song. period, debating who is better is a trivial high school girl type thing.

    Has anybody grown up yet?

  • @Jamsessionroom1337

Wow. Tone is irrelevant? I agree that debate over which guitarist is better is trivial and is all a matter of opinion, but tone, volume, attack, muting, etc.. all play a big part in each guitarist's overall sound. Tone matters my friend. Anybody can lay down a barrage of notes, but making them sound good is what separates the great ones from the "school girls".

  • @jmgx6 Not everybody can afford 2000$ amps with 200$ pedals that just compress sound, to other people practicing is more important.

Most recording studios give you that "great tone" either way.

But, look at all the trouble eric johnson, paul gilbert, joe satriani etc go to get "great tone". They still aren't as famous or rich as guitarists that chug power chords, or guitarists that don't know much.

A guitarist really needs good notes, but tone is really irrelevant to a listener.

  • @Jamsessionroom1337 since when was this about money or fame??

  • @FenderBENder0002 Because he was talking about tone, and tone costs money... Money is irrelevant yes, but does being the "best" really matter that much in the long run....

If i where a musician i'd like be a good musician, but i'd like being successful too. But then again "success" is subjective, so i guess your gonna have to make up your mind on what a "Good" guitarist should have.

My point is that tone should be irrelevant when your a great guitarist. Your notes should be speak not your $.

  • @Jamsessionroom1337 LOL, tone is more important than anything. The fact that you think tone is something studio can give you pretty much proves you don't know what you're talking about. great tone comes from a player's fingers, it's part of their overall technique.

  • @deadenddude @Jamsessionroom1337

Tell that to the kids with 15watt MG and Spider III amps and way too much distortion.

This performance could not be reconstructed on poor equipment. Guitarists still need fine-tuning and the backing of a good band. Although I understand where you're coming from. The equipment is not the creator of the music. It only augments what is already there.

  • Comment removed

  • @Nameless742 @Nameless742 Sorry, but equipment is overrated. Good guitarists can sound good on cheap pawn shop gear but crappy guitarists still sound crappy on top of the line gear. Tone starts with the sound the string makes when a guitarist strikes it. Better technique = better tone. Start with bad technique and you get bad tone that no amount of expensive equipment will fix. In other words...you can't polish a turd. Well, you can, but it will still stink!

  • EJ THATS THE NICEST TONE EVER ON THAT ES

  • Amazing stuff - I enjoyed my Gibsons for the smooth, almost creamy sound, but have since come to prefer Strats for the bark, bay, and aggression, esp. when played through some ancient tube amp. Just me ...

  • EJ all the way !!!!!!!!!!!!

  • EJ all the way !!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I agree with many who have stated already; G3 participants and dozens of others belong in the "Jezus I wish I could play like that!" catagory. The blend of Satriani, Johnson and Vai is a beautiful thing! There is no best, except in your opinion.

We are so lucky to have so many great artists to hear!

  • when our band would go on road w.Extreame and XYZ...in 80s we wouldnt say....we blew them away.....come on listen to Nuno...he smokes axe...but we all had mutual respect for ea.others styles...one day ya kids will stop the who pisses farther bull crapp..and go ah ha...WE ARE IN THIS TOGTHER...i cant do blues like SRV..so i let guy show boat his signiture licks...and so forth...Aint giving ya hard time...just CHILLAX..n go Ahhh..uncle arty was rightt

  • were gonna blow em away...this aint a INDY 500.KIDS!...its a groove thing ya get into...like every woman has some thing bout them that makes them..Them they have a signiture stamp like our own finger prints

  • Im not trying trying to argue but i thing overall johnson is the best out of these three. Come on he smoked vai. And satriani is a close second

  • @SpencerOstrowskyTV2 IMHO, Vai is the best of the 3 overall, but EJ fits more into a blues style.

  • Im not trying trying to argue but i thing overall johnson is the best out of these three. Come on he smoked vai. And satriani is a close second but his tone is not as good as ej's

  • Steve just looks like he's going through the motions.. Lol, not a huge EJ fan, and Satch really looks like he's enjoying it. Seeing as how Hendrix was a huge influence on him. He can play anything.

  • from 7:28 to 7:29. The best part of the song for sure

  • i love how every note eric plays sounds soo clean, like every note fits. but i also love that fuckin dirty thing joe does here! its like my ears are having sex!

all in all i love joes part the most, because he is not trying to show how fast he can play, unlike the other two.

  • Hendrix influences really showing in Satriani's playing. If you're a Hendrix fan, you'll hear it instantly.

  • Vai's part from 6:00 - 6:12 gives me goosebumps. So badass

  • im sorry but erics vocals are simply to weak to do this song justice .this line up had the potential to deliver something memorable , but the creative spark is not there , it s pretty good but not in the same league as say clapton /allman key to the highway collaboration

  • where is vai ?

  • @einavi279 they do show him in the video, but he is on the far right

  • Satch shows he can play da Blues

  • We all know who the best is here and it's obviously Hendrix ;)

  • Stop arguing ... these 3 are the best guitar players of today, and maybe of all time ... :D So try to listen to them :)

  • Who's the best? C'mon- get real- each personality, style, and interpretation kik azz. Speed when it counts, sustain when its needed, and look at how they feed off each other! If I was the Bass player/drummer, I'd thought I'd died and gone to heaven. How about taking each on the individual merits? There's a reason they toured so successfully!

  • Not taking away from Johnson's vocals; pretty dam good for a white guy. The thing about having this calibre of players is you don't need vocals when these guys' guitars do the talking.

  • satch lays it down in this one...johnson has the sound for this song and the guitar!

  • I love Steve's solo in this jam. It was technical but still soulful

  • johnson owns this video for sure. those other house niggas cant contend

  • @ 5:03 Look at how cool he walks!

  • @TSS1994 Steve Vai learned how to do that cool walk at Berklee. Frank Zappa's was better though.

  • Epic performance!

  • the god blues

  • eric the best

  • Satriani and Vai are great, and that's a fact, but lets be honest, Eric Johnson is the only one who can play a top quality blues here. In my opinion, the only two guys who could play this song the way it is supposed to be played were Jimi Hendrix and Gary Moore. I'm not saying that others are bad, it's just that Moore and Hendrix were able to play it like no one could, but that's just my opinion...

  • @Klempo92 I belive that Eric Clapton would do a fair version of Red House....

  • @Bigbluesboy no doubt about it, he is a great blues player... I personaly would like to hear his version

  • @Klempo92 Eric Clapton could do the best version, if he wanted to, just look at Voodoo Chile..

  • @Klempo92 did you see the vid of gary moore at the strat pack concert? it's great !!

  • @Klempo92 i dont agree that they were the only ones , but they were great and i like the way you put it , nice comm dude :)

  • Comment removed

  • @kostaVHjovanovic You're probably right, that came out wrong. I didn't really mean that they were the only ones. There are probably others who could play this good, SRV would probably be able to play it great if he was alive, or maybe Clapton, but Moore and Hendrix, I have never heard a version better than theirs. And about Satriani and Vai, I like some of their stuff, and I don't think that their blues is bad, because blues can't be bad, it's just that I've heard better. And tnx for kind reply.

  • @Klempo92 i know that all opinions are different but you heart is in the right place and you dont bash other guitar players and respect other comments, you get a like from ever time dude :)

  • @Klempo92 I agree, but there is only one problem. Its not that EJ isn't good but, he is always playing the same scale. And after listining to that for 1 year i begin to hate that. But you're right... SV is not realy a blues man. JS is not bad but still not a real blues man.

  • love Vai he is one of my favorite guitarists of all time but him and blues not so good

  • I love how losers on the internet love to put down artists who have more talent than they could ever have while they're hiding behind a computer screen. All three are amazing, but Vai is my personal favorite.

  • @Manowar4life1234 Thank You! finally somebody understands

  • holy crap Vai just trashed this song

  • I've got the I-feel-the-blues-but-can't-play-it blues

  • These guys are not real blues players. They are good, but their style doesn`t fit this kind of music.

  • Vai and Satch should have swapped their guitars for a pen and paper

  • Amazing tone and killer licks from Eric. ;)

  • This is the combination of guitarists that can kill anyone. Personally I do not feel the tapping/whammy that Vai uses really flows with Blues especially this song. However I do feel that they are amazing musicians in their own ways. Amazing song and performance i must say

  • Must we make everything into a discussion? I really enjoyed watching this video and personally like Johnson the best, but still, these guys aren't competing with each other. They are having a ball playing a gig =).

  • with blues less is more look at BB Via's solo was horrible Clapton would have killed this lol Via and Satriani where both trying to out do each other at 5:30 onwards i bet Eric was in the middle thinking i could kill you both

  • with blues less is more look at BB Via's solo was horrible Clapton would have killed this

  • with blues less is more look at BB

  • "Even though my baby don't love me no more, I know her sister will..." Oh yeah.

  • wow! from 5:30 to the end!

  • Vai's solo is fucking genius, not the typical blues we hear everyday but something new

  • @Preludiumi seriously dude?

  • Wow... without words after seeing (hearing) this. Vai and Satriani doesn't suck at all, but it's clear that this is not the most appropiate style for them to play.

  • Blues is in the heart of Eric...CWM935

  • Probably the worst thing about it all is that Eric Johnson does not get the due credit he deserves

  • beautifulllll blues .. enough said ..

  • beautifulllll blues .. enough said ..

  • I like how you can tell how long some people have been playing just by their stupid comments. Sorry guys there really isnt a 'best', guitarist. It just boils down to different flavors at this level.

  • @mehtabb1 Very true!

  • Vai and Satriani sucks!!! Johnson is pure passion... And I like more this version than the original

  • Vai and Satriani sucks!!! Johnson is pure passion...

  • Vai and Satriani sucks!!! Johnson is pure passion...

  • @pantalones222 As are Vai and Satriani. No-one can truly discern the emotional motivations behind any other person's music. Or anything else that they do, for that matter. Such judgments certainly don't have any place in intelligent arguments, in any case. You don't like Vai and Satriani, and you do like Johnson. That's fine. Other people think differently. That's fine too.

  • OMG, to be there must have been wonderful!

  • Johnson gives Vai the dirtiest look at 6:20 it's hilarious!

  • The section from 5:00 where they all go at it, Vai looks lost and makes a mess of all of it, stupid noises and bar abuse, satch stole it for me with his quiet piece and the awesome keychange at about 4:50. just my opinion.

  • wow what a great rendition of red house...and whoever said that vai and sach aint feelin somethin while playin this,u obviously got hearing problems...and i also play a gibson es 335 and i love the blues..id be happy if i where half as good as these guys..but if i had to chose my fav of the 3 from this vid, i like eric j,s playin the best but they all rocked!!!

  • @himyname303 can you play an instrument? Btw, looking up to someone is a part of learning gtr

  • que sensuall!!

  • someone in G3 couldnt mke it into rolling stone's list?????just crazy......

  • satch is pretty soulful :)

  • kERRY KING OWWNNS THIS SHITTY ASS GUITAR PLAYERS! KERRY IS BETTER LIKE BY A MILE. IF YOU CANT ACCEPT THAT THEN YOU HAVE NO IDEA WHAT MUSIC IS. KERRY DOMINATES THESE DUDES I DARE SOMEBODY CHALLENGE ME TO SAY OTHERWISE.

  • @HImynameis303 are you trolling?kerry king doesn't know what a note is!

  • @sweetchildonline you're dumb

  • @HImynameis303 yeah man there's so much evidence of jerry king being good....

give me one thing he's done good?

  • @HImynameis303 ....? your kidding right? not even close to the same genre, you can't even compare them, the only way you can judge that is who can play eachothers music, and i don't think either of them can play the other style, so theres no way to really judge "better"

  • @HImynameis303 all 3 of them dominate king dude. are you being for real?

  • @dethmacol come on bro even ej said he looks up to kerry king?

  • @HImynameis303

You're hilarious, dude. Some people just don't have a sense of humor xD

  • @whatshendrix llol

  • @HImynameis303 HAHAHA that was the funniest joke ever, seriously , kerry king is the ugliest satanist wannabe guitarist one planet. You, know, to be a good musician you need to play music, not random note with maximum distorion.....

  • Now thats the way to play them Blues..

God damned.. I get goose bumps......

  • satch and erick wer great... vai not so sure :| still he's awsome

  • 5:30 ... left to right increases in hair

  • This video is in stereo and Vai is on the right speaker. So just unplug the right speaker and Vai will be OFF and it will sound better!

  • Awesome music

Eric johnson just rocked the blues there

  • one question, is stevie ray vaughan's spirit in that other guy? the one with headphones?

  • i don't get that steve looks like a good guy but shreds like a bad guy fucking! :D :D :D nice song! :))

  • everything everyone has said here is true about eric being an incredible beast, which he is. As is satch. However, god damn it, stop singing eric lol

  • everyone kicks steve vai's ass

  • @TJPDiddly fuck u steve is fukin amazing but u have to play guitar to understand,, if u do play guitar, shame on u

  • i guess steve and Joe you just have to be there to understand why it makes sense to have that kinda over cleaned up over-compressed ready for metal tone... but whatever floats the boat i guess, never liked ibanez, and others for slow bluesy tone myself.

  • eric johnson ftw

  • I think that Satch did the best job solo wise.. it's about how you play the beast.. Satch allowed ample time breakes in his licks and had awesome dynamics in his playing. I say that Satch and Johnson kicked Steve's hine end.

  • @Mandrix37911 - I agree.

  • You are great Eric!

  • wow Eric's tone is godlike!

  • The rest of us guitarist go to Guitar Center and pump out some Metallica or GNR covers when we wanna test out a guitar or amp. I wonder what these guys would cover......

  • now I know why Satriani always wears a hat...

  • @jwspitz35 What!? he wears a hat like 5% of the time....

  • @jwspitz35 now we just need to find out why he's always wearing sunglasses

  • In a Satriani / Vai world, Eric Johnson is massively underrated.

He does seem to keep himself pretty low key though.

  • why is it that all three of their tone sucks so bad? satch's is ok but you would think guitar "gods" would pay more attention to what's coming out of their amp.

  • Johnson rules, what a perfect tone!

  • None of them are good blues players... they sound is always coverd by some very heay distortion or insane delay, thats not what the blues is about, just keep it simple. None of them feel the real blues, they have too much focus on the technical site of blues. They are not bad guitar players, but they have many things to learn when it comes to the blues. As Willie Dixon said " The Blues are the roots; everything else is the fruits"

  • @hendrixgeek

    so true...

  • @hendrixgeek I think Eric did a great job.....agreed on Vai though, he kinda did his own thing there.

  • @hendrixgeek None of these guys had the "insane delay" thing going on. That really makes that comment sound way too ignorant.....And the distortion is part of what creates they're tone. Before overdrive, things were totally clean. Players of that time thought that a tiny bit of drive was wayyy too muddy. Blues can go anywhere, it's about the FEEL. Joe feels it. Eric feels it. Vai at least gets it. It's they're own take.

  • @hendrixgeek eric johnson knows the blues son. hes got texas blues running through his veins.

  • @hendrixgeek Well, I don't know about you but I know I'd chow down on a tasty fruit over a dried up root covered in dirt ANY day of the week..
