  • you do need the adapter what if you need to put it back in the laptop.

  • @TheJordan1246 I doubt many would put it back into the laptop since it would normally be taken out after the laptop ceased to work, or if you were getting a new PC.

  • i have a 3.5 external hard drive and i lost the actual power cable that plugs into the outlet directly into the casing... i have the usb cable but i cant seem to find this power cable... it looks like the place it should be plugged into has about 5-7 holes... i been on newegg and western digital website i cant find this cable anywhere... i have the ATA cables with the pins but i need the actual power chord... any way u can help me? im not really a tech guy so i hope this makes sense...

  • @wgregorios Oh, if it's an external drive, then it should just be a simple 2 pin cable, the 5-7 holes are normally the power supply cables for an internal hard drive. Also, why do you have the ATA cable when it's external? Do you have any camera so you can take photos of it? If you do, and you could send me the link to the photos to my inbox and I'll try and help you with the issue. Thanks for watching.

  • @Ozzyzig2007 yea what im gonna do is make a reply video on my webcam and u can see what im talking about im gonna do that later today... thanks bro!

  • @wgregorios Excellent, I look forward to seeing the video.

  • LOL make sure to subscRIB :D

  • @Ozzyzig2007 he's making fun of your accent

  • @Ozzyzig2007 ur accent...

  • speak english god damn'it!!!

  • @BackSideOFFThemoon Excuse me? What language do you think I was speaking?

  • @BackSideOFFThemoon Hey , I can understand everything he say. So he only people how can speak English are Americans? I want to see you trying to speak another language , maybe chinese or spanish . Ignorant

  • @TheRicoCallao Thanks mate. I don't think I've got a strong Scottish accent, although I may be wrong, but for him to tell me to speak English even though I clearly am is an insult. Thanks for watching!

  • can you plug the hard drive back to the laptop like with the harddrive in the enclosure?

  • @younglonewolf Yes, but it would be plugged into a USB port, not into the sata porton the laptop motherboard.

  • @Ozzyzig2007 becuase my motherboard harddrive thingy is broken noot the actual harddrive but the port thing on the laptop but would it run if i hooked this up to the usb thing?

  • @younglonewolf You can run it through USB, although depending on the BIOS setup on your laptop, you might not be able to boot into Windows from the USB hard drive enclosure.

  • I plug in my hard drive and my computer does absolutely nothing. i have the same exact case as u and a 160 gb WD harddrive

  • @soccerdudej It's either a duff adapter in the case, a dodgy hard drive or the usb port on your computer isn't fast enough to run it.

  • @ChrisRockSteady cheers for the kind words and glad I could help. Ta for subscribing too.

  • how do i remove all the information from the hard drive, it will not let me delette program files and that sorta stuff, its eatin about about 40 gb of the old drive?

  • @ChrisRockSteady To do this, when its plugged in and showing up in My Computer, right click it, go to properties and there should be an option under one of those tabs to format the drive and wipe all the data off it. You'll need to be logged on as an administrator to do this though.

  • Comment removed

  • Hey thanks for replying to me lol you are a scotish legend, I managed to get it sorted last night and you have saved me from chucking the drive at the wall. thanks again bud

  • WOW! With your having to hold your camera in one hand you've proven even a one-armed person install a hard drive into and enclosure! Thanks!!

You video was very informative except I am wondering whether a 2.5" hard drive has a "master" switch such as for a 3.5" desk top hard drive?

  • @swedefinn101 I know the footage is a bit shaky, but it was my aim to show you can do this with one hand. As in a switch to turn it on and off? In that case, no. These drives power down after you remove them ( I would use the safely remove hardward button). Because it came from a laptop, the power would be cut when windows is shut down.

  • Cheers mate couldn't get it to work till i watched this vid

  • @Deeksin You're welcome, glad I could help.

  • Thank you for explaining about the adapter piece that needed to be taken off. No other video or website explained that part - and I couldn't figure out why my hard drive wouldn't fit into the enclosure.

  • @nfhslilb You're welcome. It was extremely annoying when I couldn't find it anywhere on the internet about that adapter, so I felt it really needed to be put into a video. Glad I could help get your drive into the enclosure.

  • @ozzyzig2007.. thanks for your reply, will photos work? i dont mind posting photos of the hardrive, i can also give you a link that shows u more about the hdd, oh btw i tried putting tape but the port wont hold for long the drive works though.

  • @xGRUMPYx1 If you post the links, I'll have a look. Although it's really the inside of the drive I would need to see. Certainly, if you crack off the case for the drive, it should be measurable to get the length of it across the way to see if you need a 2.5 or 3.5" enclosure. Although at least the drive still works.

  • i have a Usb 2.0 750gb Seagate Expansion Drive Disque Portable, i use it for my Nintendo Wii To Backup My Games because i dont use my original games, well anyway yesterday my little niece accidentally pull the cable and the hardrive fell in the carpet, when i pick it up the Usb port was loose, my question is will this work?? im having a hard time finding a enclosure, my external hardrive info model is ST907504EXA101-RK EDA SN: 2GHW6S8L PN: 9SC2AH-573

  • @xGRUMPYx1 Is the USB port totally wrecked? If it isn't, I would try my best to use the drive as it is, and somehow tape the cable to the port to make it secure. Failing that, you could open up the case to get the drive out, although I can't find the details of the actual size of the hard drive inside your case. It might end up damaging your drive too.

  • good thing about sata 2.5's you can use them as a ps3 hard drive replacement! lol

  • @jr2nd Can you? That's pretty handy!

  • @Ozzyzig2007 yea when i first got my ps3+40gig i kept running out of room -.- i had a handy 200gig minibook swaped them over, downloaded the latest OS via my pc, stuck it on a memory card then to the ps3 via the usb slot, when it asked for the OS point towards the usb and vola..

  • Hi i recently bought a hard drive case like that and i have put the 2.5 sata hard drive in like in your video but my laptop doesnt reconize it the light on the case comes on but nothing happens on my laptop?

  • @Thomastm33 Hmm, that's strange. How old is the laptop? Also, have you tried it in another usb port?

  • @Ozzyzig2007 Hey well i bought my laptop 2 years ago and the sata hard drive is a 80 gb from my ps3

It also came with a usb cord that has two usb plugs connected to a small usb plug

  • @Thomastm33 Oh, that really is strange. Is it appearing in Windows Explorer? Maybe the autorun is turned off for it for some reason. It may be the case that you're needing to plug in both of the USB plugs that are left to give the drive enough power.

  • @Ozzyzig2007 Yeh its strange because it came with a ubs cable with 3 plugs but the socket on the external hd case is a normal usb size so the small plug isnt needed. I might have to buy another one of ebay maybe a not so cheap one. anyway thanks

  • is this sata drive have to be laptop hard drive or just works with 2.5" desktop hard drives too ?

  • @jytjfgjfgj Yep, presuming the desktop hard drive is also a 2.5 SATA drive, it should work too.

  • Hey, i don't want my computer to boot the OS off the HDD, is there any way i can just use it as a mass storage device?

  • @boneriffik123 Hi, sure you can. Once the computer has booted into Windows, just plug in the HDD then. You'll then be able to explore the drive, including the old OS folders, but you can format it if you're sure you only want to use it as a mass storage device.

  • @Ozzyzig2007 Thanks a lot :)

  • @boneriffik123 You're very welcome

  • Thank you so much for this video!! It really helped me understand how to install the hard drive into the enclosure. You made everything so easy!!

  • @rxxxxxe You're very welcome. Be sure to check out my website to get everything you need from Amazon for free! :D

  • can i do this to my ps3 hard drive as well?

  • @insanecombo2 As long as its a 2.5" SATA drive, then yes :)

  • thanks for the brilliant video.. first time ever opening my laptop. was completely stumped by adaptor .. all very throughly explained in a very pleasent accent ;) cheers!

  • @ruustpuppet Thanks for the kind words, and I'm glad the video was of help to you. Just a shame about the adapter in the first place! Hope the drive is running well in your enclosure.

  • @scaryuncle88 Hi, sorry for the delay in reply. No, the size (Gb) doesn't matter :)

  • thanks for the video. I got really confused with the little adapter when I popped my HD out of my laptop. All is well now!

  • @Endless0067 Good times!

  • I just want to say that you have the sexiest accent ever.

  • @makisov Thanks

  • Thank you so much! I didn't know about the adapter either!!! Great video

  • @lucimademoisella No worries.

  • Thank you so much for mentioning the adapter !!! Nobody else did !!! You are great, thank soooooo much !!! :D

  • @ithacamylove You're very welcome. Glad the video was of help.

  • Hi. Great video. Do you know where I can find an adapter just like the one you showed? I am upgrading my HP dv5000 laptop to a SATA 500Gb HD. The original was IDE. I bought one adapter at dealextreme, but it won't fit. Many thanks!

  • @take8andnomore Hi, sorry I don't have a clue where you would get one. Maybe Amazon has one? HP could sell you one, but they might charge a fortune.

  • Thank you so much for this video! I had no idea that HP had an adaptor for the hard drive. I am now able to get the data from the drive. Honestly thank you so much for posting this.

  • @spamuloid123 You're very welcome. It's silly that they put an adapter on the drive. I hadn't found any thing else on Youtube about this, but noticed that the adapter was just slightly at an angle. It was a relief when I realised it pops off.

  • Thank you so much!! you are the only one out of many people to upload something of value and actually explaining how to install it!! thank you so much :)

  • @MissComi You're very welcome. I hope your drive is up and running in its new enclosure.

  • @Ozzyzig2007 oh it is!! thanks to you!! :) thank you so much! :)

  • Your voice is so relaxed..

  • Thanks, didn't know about the adapter that HP added. I didn't know it popped off. That was helpful!

  • @Twinsfan28 You're welcome. I don't understand why they did it. Buggers.

  • Good job, this helped me.. cheers

  • @jderekito Glad I could help. That stupid attachment that HP added to the top of the drive bugged me for ages. I didn't know you could just pop it off.
