I could not agree more. It is dangerous and it's scary that great youtubers like Dan Brown and Shaycarl does carvlog because they have so big impact on their followers. This is scary because some of their followers are watching their videos and think it's ok to drive while vlogging.
Hi Tris - The key is how distracted you are when you're doing this. I car-vlogged ONCE - and if you set the camera on a mount before you go, you're probably okay as long as you're always watching the road and keeping the driving as a priority over the vlog. But I ALWAYS get concerned when I see a vlogger handling a camera or even looking at it while they're driving. I can tell you from personal experience, it only takes a half-second with your eyes off the road for terrible things to happen...
Tris, I always knew you were a good person. Now I know you are actually a truly GREAT person. I have the greatest respect for you, sir. Thank you for putting yourself on the line to keep others safe!
One of these days, some Youtuber is going to get into a car accident, and they'll have recorded the footage of them driving unsafely to use as evidence against themselves. If they're really stupid, they'll put that footage on Youtube for the whole world to see.
Kassem G has done it! Go get him! I remember seeing him and being annoyed. I mean he's a great guy and all but how busy do you have to be to multitask while driving. Fight the good fight! :)
I hate car vlogs! and texting....I can't stand car texing. You just want to say to the person your riding with, "Hey 'scuse me but could you stop texting? Yeah, I don't really want to die today. I've got a lot of stuff to do yet." *person rolls eyes and puts phone away*
I'd be surprised to learn that nobody has been in an accident doing this. I have my Bluetooth (you have to use hands-free devices in CA) and I still find that I am distracted when talking, so I never make calls unless it is absolutely necessary.
It's not about having your hands on the wheel or not, it's about concentration.
When you're talking on the phone while driving you stop concentrating on the road and more on the phone, same would happen with camera you'd be vlogging and that would distract you.
i agree!! can u use ur cellphone hand held while driving in the uk/usa?u cant in nz. honestly i think it so dangerous and u get all those dummies that are trying to be youtubers doing it as well
i dont even know why i watch you. you obvisouly are gay as hell and swallow lots of man jiz.................... just saying. no offesne to the homos............ i quess your channel is pretty kool. ok i take back what i said trish you problay get the pussy. all the gays are surrounded by girls bro
Mitchell Davis and Shane Dawson have done it as well. But usually Shane isn't the one driving. Even if they have a tripod it's just really distracting.
How is that different than having a conversation with someone sitting next to you in the car? (Provided, of course, they aren't holding the camera and it's taped to the dashboard like Mitchell Davis does) Virtually anything can distract you while driving. I personally think eating while driving is potentially more dangerous.
@DarthLizzy Actually, with the talking to someone, I find if I had a camera in the car... I'm more likely to look at the camera and not the road then when talking to a person. When i have someone in the car, I don't look at them when I drive, I concentrate and answer when I'm good and ready. But the camera would seem more distracting then an actual human
Well, if a car vlogger has an accident at least it will be on film. Seriously, here in the U.S. we have a major problem with people texting, talking on the cell phone, & surfing the web on their phone while driving. There have been a lot of accidents because of not paying attention to the road and people have been killed.
@DaibhiW i know.. it's ridiculous! You don't need to post a status on facebook saying "Oh.. just driving.. and nearly crashed! thought I'd tell you!" of course.. with less grammar then that.. But it's ridiculous! Argh.. Makes me sad to be part of the teenagers these days... >.>
I've done it before. It's actually not that hard... if you're just driving straight and not changing lanes :P
Though, I do find it ironic how there are laws against calling/texting (unless hands-free) while driving in my state... while there aren't any against ... well, vlogging. California is where they all do ittt!!
i also HATE seeing someone cross busy streets talking on camera... i don't need to see you crossing the road so just pick up the convo once you've got to the other side!
I think you're funny and I don't want to offend you, but I don't necessarily agree. *braces for hate storm* I think there are much more important things to fight against than carvlogging. It's not that common and can be done safely. Nalts and Mitchell Davis mount the camera and provide entertaining and informative videos without putting anyone in danger. Texting and driving is more common and DOES cause accidents. Why not speak against that? I mean this as respectfully as possible.
@JoEmily744 fair point, but i'd just like to ask this - can you really have your full attention on driving if you are talking or acting up to a camera?
And you know what will happen if there is an accident? The media will pick it up and say this is another reason why the internet and youtube are ALL BAD and we should be very very scared of them!
I am cracking up at the car crash picture but to be honest mine would've been worse oh and when I saw RWJ car vlogging I was petrified he would do it again and die, I nearly cried...oh the shame of admitting that... =|

I am the same way. I hate it when people talk on their cell phones and i hate it when people car vlog too. If they want to risk there lives fine. Don't risk other innocent people to.
