  • STOP! Hating is bad!!! Who really knows whats right or wrong in raising a child or let along a tennis prodigy. You have some parents who don't want to help their child do their homework assignments. I raised 5 kids and had 5 differernt results from each of them. I have met seniors who don't know what they want to do with their lifes. Enjoy your life!

  • This kid has undeniable talent. But its only a matter of time before he gets burnt out

  • good luck kid, but you're gonna hate it soon enuff..(:

  • To say the parents are using their kids as a meal ticket 99% of the time is wrong, as they are giving their kids an opportunity to fulfill their dreams. It costs alot of money to develop an elite tennis player never underestimate that, tens if not hundreds of thousands of dollars in fact, coaching, travelling, equipment etc. So long as the child loves the sport and enjoys themselves and the parents support thier kids unconditionally it is a good thing.

  • Is it true that his father is black?

  • @Empyriumman

Yeah his dad is a dark brown-skinned African American man.

  • heard his parents got divorced and moved back to usa from france. parents today are so lame. they use their kids as a meal ticket or to make up for their lost dreams. just let the kids have fun and just play tennis. if they make the pros fine and if not fine tơo. so many kids get burned out early.

  • Bradin14, an is now 9 years old, back in CA, playing in local 10 year old park tournaments and has a record of 9-31. Still think he will be #1 in the world in 8 years? You have only seen him hit balls fed to him, not actually playing real tennis, huge difference.

  • Jan Silva will be pro at 15 years old. And #1 at age 17 or 18

  • The fact that everybody is saying that puts ENORMOUS pressure on him, combined with the pressure that his parents put on him that could very well be the thing that will ruin his carreer as a tennis player.

A lot can go wrong mentally in his progress of becoming one of the best, and all the pressure that his parents and a lot of people put on him is certainly not helping.

  • you are a fuck head he clearly has skill i bet in a few year her will be on the pro tour

  • Perhaps not a future star. At 8 years old now he has entered about 15 local 10 year old tournaments and has gotten crushed in every one. Hitting a fed ball is not "playing" tennis at all.

  • this kid is a future star, trust me

  • k razon

  • wow... nice vocab for a 4-5 year old. not quite sure y ur parents would give u a youtube account tho.....

  • have you ever heard of sarcasm?

  • haha... you can't detect it in my comment, so clearly you haven't heard of it.

  • yeah.

  • "tenis marcelo enano chile 7", wach this video please, its a 8 years old chilean boy ,born in 03-27-2000, thank you

  • Well if he does become the Tiger Woods of tennis then more power to him, seems Tiger Woods still loves the sport and I hope that its the same for Jan 15-20 years from now.

  • his technique has got better...... well done!

  • hes gona hate the sport and not want to play again by the time hes 10

  • hes putting so much time in i hope he doesnt burn out like a lot of other young tennis stars that dont get a break

  • he doesn't train at bolleteri

  • I know he deosnt. =/

I see him at tournaments a lot.

  • ur a little kid too? u play against him?

  • I'm older than him. But I dont play against himm because I'm a girl. =/

  • i say that because he is five years old and he is already being plastured in everything imagine if that was u wouldnt u always think o my god i gotta play good thats a lot on a five year old

  • lawtennis, I seriously agree...he was in a big german tennis magazin and the parents were to me, abit weird...I think one day its he will stop playing tennis or continue to become a powerful-machine in tennis.

  • Does he speak German? Does he read German? No??? His parents are as weird as your parents are...I wonder if people who have met the parents think them weird? I dont remember the parents being interviewed by a German Tennis Magazine?

  • I'll say he'll burn out. Don't you get it. It's the parents dream not the kid's. His parents are always checking youtube and commenting. Just weird.

  • How do you know what Jan's dream is...I think its weird that your here commenting about a kid that you dont know a damn thing about? Kids like Jan dont burn out...But people like you stay haters and assholes forever!

  • He is always in the tennis magazines. his parents put way to much pressure on him. he is only five. he is going to be burnt out someday. He is really good for a five year old tho.

  • Why would you say that?

  • ive been observing jan silva's videos since last year and by golly has he improved! im happy for hima nd his parents. However, the debate is tiring my ears out. lets just give this little kid some time and we'll see how he does at the junior level. all the best =)

  • I also agree with Nick Bolletteiri's theory. The later you start playing tennis, chances are the longer career you will have. Now I'm not saying this about everyone, because Federer started when he was 6. But alot of these kids are being forced to play from young ages by their parents.

  • Nick Bolletteiri's Theory is if you can pay me 1800 per hour I will coach your kid. I wonder what article you read? The later you start the chances now are you will not have a career at all...

  • I feel sorry for him. I read about him in TENNIS magazine and i agree to what the editor had to say. Their family moved from California to France just because on Jan. Now if he get's like a freak injury or something what are they gonna do? That kind of pressure is meant for an adult, not a child.

  • Here is the problem with people and the lack of education in the US. The writer just said that kids are starting younger and younger. Chris Evert... said that it is too much pressure for a kid his age just after she said she doesnt know the family nor him nor anything else for that matter? There is no such thing as pressure if your having fun! Chris stated that 5 year olds from her academy just have fun but to have that kind of fun the parents have to shell out $2,000.00 per week?

  • Freak Injury...They moved because he can be checked weekly by a top French Sports Doctor. The same Physician who works with the French Tennis Federation. hmmmm I feel sorry for him too. He has a chance to be great and people like you sit around and knock his family like your family wouldnt have done the same thing...

  • amazing footwork... split step and everything!

  • Part 5.

Just look at kid on the video. He already got wrong positioning and leg movements when he hits forehand. It will result in adaptation of wrong technique that will be very hard or impossible to change in the future. If he keep this way he will never be able to get power from natural movements. I will not go further but there is still time for his coach to change body positioning during strokes and to improve fluidness of the strokes.

  • thats bullshit hes 5 years old he has plenty of time to change his movement and the more you play the better your movement gets naturally...he still hasnt developed his body at all so worrying about movement rit now isnt important

  • A proper tennis movement does not come in the natural way. Natural body movement is in fact "less resistance" movement. Body natural movement is not same as tennis optimal movement. Kid have to start to learn it in stages from beginning and accept tennis optimal movement as his own natural body movement, by adapting different body motoric than natural one we born with. The development of the tennis optimal motor system takes place in the process during initial stages of tennis coaching process.

  • your comment... makes no sense.

  • Part 4

    5. From 12yo to the end of carrier teach kid thinking and develop his tennis IQ (this is most important part considering that many of them has got sound tennis technique.

So, gentlemen, if you want to see how good is your kid do not post their videos on Internet, just pay a visit to Jelena Gencic. She lives in Serbia. She will give you best advice what you have to do.

  • Part 3

    3. 5-10 improvement in stage 1&2 + court apprehensions and movement on court with little more power on shots that kid accepted already. 7-10 Precision, Precision, precision ( power is coming as a result of the fluidness and body positioning that took time to develop from stage no. 1). 4. 9-14 all together + speed, speed and speed on the court.

  • Part 2

In this hurry they forget that teaching is a natural process and that overstepping certain stages in the process will definitely damage further development of the kid. Just in short 1. 3-5 years familiarisation with the court environment and fluidness of the strokes (not power of precision) 2. 4-6 -- first stage + basic movement and positioning of the body during the strokes as well as stroke direction (no power).

  • Part 1,

Just a few comments! The kid is potential for his age (yes and no in same time). I watch videos on youtube of young age kids playing tennis, and almost all kids got fundamentally wrong movements. This is not their mistake but of their parents that teach them or wrong coaching in hurry to show that kid can hit ball over the net with backend/forehand/volley or serve.

  • this kid is awesome

  • this kid is freaking awesome for his age, probably is gonna be the next Federer. He plays as well as I did when I was like 9!

  • STOP PUSHING LITTLE KIDS SOO MUCH ....just take ur time with it and the talent only needs to be 5% but work is 95% n everything will come when he gets older..take ur time with it!

  • Baghdatis discovered this little fella

  • This kid has great footwork! Amazing for his age. It's like watching a mini Roger Federer.

  • As fantastic a talent as this kid is his parents made the worst decision possible to create such an exposure for such a young child. At 6 years old people are calling him the future Number 1. Most juniors exposed at this age only take negative turns in their career in all sports. Hopefully this kid doesnt fall down this same road.

  • @singh2188 haha fall down

  • lol im 12 and working on going pro but watching this kid gets my hopes down!dang he is so good i read about him in a magazine

  • the parents should lethim going his own way ans here shoudnt be so much videos of him

  • ...nice strokes...great future...

  • Jan Silva You make my day. It just awesome to read about you and watch you on youtube. You are to cute for words. Your family is just the greatest.

  • dude he's barely taller than the net yet somehow...AMAZING

  • see very soon to vicente the Chilean wonder...

  • Like a CARTOON!That gives us an idea.

Hey maybe its time to look for a comic editor Mr Silva. There's quite a lot of money there with the Janni Mania going on. We will definitely buy a copy of the comic.

    Good Luck!

  • What kind of Racist Nonsense is this?

  • can you be more racist?!

    dumb.

  • Anyone who would post such a racisit comment has no idea of the enormous accomplishments of African Americans. Talk about a low I.Q. Hey Calculus......use your brain to get rid of your bigotry. (I think your social I.Q. is so low you'll never reach 10)

  • lol the avg american iq is 100

  • He might lose intrest in tennis when he hits puberty.

  • If you ask me, he's an amazing player and an amazing kid, but i think its just a little to early to tell if he's gonna become something amazing. i turn 11 in a few days and a few months ago i got a scholarship to a year-round academy called scoben international tennis academy in north carolina. people tell me i am a great player and i really think i can go all the way, and i hope he can too!

  • Jan Silva, your grandmother, Missionary Silva told me about you. I googled your name and up popped a tennis star...you are the buzz around Sacramento, California. Keep up the great work and never give up. I can't wait to meet you.

  • Jan, if you remember me correctly, i "hooked you up" so to speak with your girlfriend Shannon, while u were in tampa bay at TennisSmith Camp with Steve Smith, just about 2 weeks ago!!!

just remember me man, you'll be good one day, u have inspired me
